I'm an Auburn grad and therefore a Tiger homer, and was wondering what everyone's opinion was on him.

A lot of "experts" have him going in the late to mid 1st round so its a possibility he could be around when the Bucs pick. He'd immediately upgrade an already young and upcoming OL.

He's huge - 6-9, 338lbs. and started all 4 years and never gave up a sack. Not to mention, he blocked for 3 first rounders in 2004.

Thoughts?

I for one would love to see him land in Tampa Bay. He and Carnell are already friends, so the chemistry between them would be awesome. And what really impresses me is the fact that he's a 4 year starter, and never gave up an sack.

Linemen are hard to judge because they have no stats. Every draft board has D'Brickashaw Ferguson as the top-rated OT. He's 6-5 and 290 AND he runs a slower 40 time than Marcus McNeil.

What makes Ferguson higher rated?

I don't think McNeil will be available for the Bucs.

Right. We have some pretty obvious needs... Colmer is one future OT and Davis is as well

Draft OT in 2nd or 3rd Round and pick up a veteran for insurance

If we had a top 5 pick I'd say go after D'Brick

but we need playmakers beyond the handful we have... or youth on defense

yes last year I said this year would be a good time to start fishing for you future LB or DE or even DT.

Wasn't Colmer like the 2nd or 3rd best OT (rankings-wise) in last year's draft? This year, we'd probably get anywhere from the 3-5 in terms of OT ranks if we drafted one in the first round.

This draft is pretty deep for OTs, LBs, DEs & DBs. I say, take the BPA for the first two or three rounds and then go for need. It's a pretty generic draft strategy, but it's basically what teams that don't have any glaring needs do.

I would LOVE to have him. But more important than how many 1st rounders he blocked for is how many 1st roudners he has blocked. Like did he ever go up agaisnt D. Ware?

Ferguson is the highest rated tackle because if you watched a UVA game, you would see this guy was absolutely incredible. Now, I'll admit I only saw him play a couple of times, but from what I did see, Ferguson is better in pass protection than any linemen I've seen in the NFL with exception to Jones. His skill in pass-blocking are crazy. In fact, my best source is the UVA / VA tech game. He was lined up against one of the best pass-rushing DE"s in the nation. The tesult? By the fourth quarter, VA Tech altered their entire rushing scheme. The DE ran either stunts or rush the inside via a line shift. Furthermore, no one blitzed the left side. Basically, they refused to line anyone up on the left side where Ferguson was, allowing their QB pretty much complete freedom to roll out left.

That's how good he is in pass-protection, they gave up a pure rollout left because they couldn't get pressure on that side. Now, Ferguson's no mauler in the run only because of his size (the technque is brilliant, and he pulls VERY well). The key is, his frame can easily be bumped up to 310 and I don't think he'd lose a step. 40-time, size, no sacks allowed, don't matter. This guy is teh best LT prospect since Pace and will go #1.

On teh other hand, I would love to see Winston/Colmer or McNeill/Colmer as our pair of OT's next season. Colmer... I really wanna hear something about him, good or bad at this point.
