Anyone have some Info on Brodrick Bunkley DT FSU

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey all.... I have been hearing this guys name come up here and there when discussing the "top ranked DTs" in this year's draft. Admittidly, I haven't watched many FSU games... so I thought I'd come over here (since I know some of you are FSU fans) and try to get your opinions on this guy.

Obviously my Saints are in the market for an OT/DT/LB in the first and/or second round.

Where do you guys see Brodrick Bunkley being drafted, and what are his pros/cons? Is he a NT/2Tech/3Tech? Etc?

Any inside info is appreciated.

Thanks

This guys is a stud, but was really flying under the radar until the senior bowl, and then his combine performance- Ran a 4.8 at 305 lbs, and benched 225 45 times....
Im a huge fsu fan, and saw this guy CONSTANTLY in the backfield of the oppossing offeneses
He will go top 15- most have him going to the browns at 13
Also, he is a local product from tampa- Chamberlein High School

HE was monster in college. A fan favorite that seemed to be in on every play. BUT, like most fsu DT's, he will probably come up short in the nfl, unless he's put into the right situation. A transfer to DE might be what is needed for him to excel in the pros.

A well respected poster on FinHeaven did a breakdown of his athletic ability... it is pretty rediculous once you read it... here:

I don't know how many of you caught this...it happened quite a bit ago.

Brodrick Bunkley DL Bunkley (6-2 5/8, 304) ran 4.16 in the short shuttle and 7.33 in the cone drill. He did everything else at the Combine.

Those numbers are SICK. Since Brod did not run the short shuttle or cone at the Combine, just as a "fun" experiment I took those numbers and inserted them into the linebacker pool in my athleticism ratings.

Just for *****s and giggles, I completely took "height" and "weight" out of the equation. Nobody got brownie points in this equation for being heavier OR taller than anyone else at the time of measurement...only brownie points faster, stronger, more agile, etc. This measurement is based purely upon 10 yard split, 20 yard split, 40 yard split, bench reps, vertical, broad jump, short shuttle, long shuttle, and cone drill.

Where did he come out? #28 out of 45 total LB candidates.

Here's the rub. This is done on a pure speed-factor athleticism basis. This means that at 6'3" and 305 pounds, Bunkley is MORE ATHLETIC than 17 other linebackers that all average 6'1" and 244 pounds.

In other words, yes, if you wanted you could play Brod Bunkley at 6'3" and 305 pounds at MLB/OLB and by the numbers he'd be MORE athletic than Keith Ellison, Cameron Vaughn, Omar Gaither, Stephen Tulloch, Abdul Hodge, Parys Haralson, Stanley McClover, Daryl Tapp, Trent Bray, Dale Robinson, Charlton Keith, Oliver Hoyte, Kevin Simon, D'Qwell Jackson, Kai Parham, Anthony Schlegel, Freddie Roach, and AJ Nicholson.

Of course if you include height and weight back into the equation, he's the #12 most athletic linebacker in the entire group of 45 linebackers. Sick. Just, sick.

If this guy is available, I don't care if we've signed Sam Adams or whatever BFE defensive tackle there is out there...this is the guy I want on my team at all costs.

Thanks guys... much appreciated.

So from what I am hearing... he seems to project as a 3Tech DT or possible DE in the pros?

I have read that he has had some injury problems in the past (knees I think) and that he tends to spend some time on his back as he plays a little out of control. Any truth to that?

Do you think it's possible he'll last until that late first early second round... or will some team pick him up around 15-20 in the first?

Either way.... I was hoping he'd be more of a run stuffer/blocker eater that we need in the middle. We have pass rushers.... we need a solid NT that can stuff the middle and eat up blockers.

As far as the injury goes, I believe it was a hurt back-
This guy didnt really start until last season, and still came away as fsus all time leader in tackles for loss...say what you will about their nfl production, but thats some pretty impressive company
He isnt just a workout wonder, hes the real deal, and as far as where hell play in the nfl, just depends on who takes him
Ive heard the browns would use him at the end in their 3-4 but the cardinals would play him at tackle
NO WAY he lasts past pick 15- if hes there at 15 someone will trade up to get him

IT was his knee. He tore the acl in his right knee, and then later, tore the mcl in the same knee. Also has a history of ankle problems, although nothing major.

I wouldn't want him to be a run stiffer although that's what he's getting hyped at, he's no Sam adams. More of a hovan type, he's not gonna get a ton of sacks, but he will always be int he qb's face causing havoc in the backfield.

He does have problems getting pancaked, he takes a poor stance at the line at times, and doesn't get off the snap quick enough, that can be fixed with coaching.

I really think to excel in teh nfl, he should be moved to LE. He's got just enough speed to get around the corner against most tackles, and the power to push them back.

And no, he won't be around int eh second round. He is the 2nd rated DT in the draft, some consider hism the 1st rated. I would be suprised if he makes it out of the top 20.

He wont make it to the Fins at 16...

Expect him to either go to the Bills at 8... or the Browns at 13...
