I have a cousin that lives in Houston. I called him while ago and he was telling me that there is a "lynchmob" mentality on the radio call in shows today about the Texans passing up on Reggie Bush!! I think they will regret it!!
First of all, they don't have a running back!! This guy could make the pro bowl in his rookie year.
Second of all, he would put fans in the stands! They would sell out Reliant Stadium for the next 2 years GUARANTEED!!
Third, IF you were to not draft him, YOU HAVE TO GET SOMETHING FOR THE PICK BESIDES THE PLAYER THAT YOU GOT!!! Here is what I would do if I didn't feel I needed Reggie Bush (his initials are RB, can you say Karma?): I would have called the Saints (who are almost as pitiful as the Texans) and would have said, "If you want Bush, we'll do a trade so you can get the first pick, BUT we would want your first pick (where they could get Mario Williams) AND Deuce McAllister, plus, either a couple of picks in the first and second round next year or a package where we could get several picks over the next few years." I would make it clear that we were going to get Bush with that first pick. If the Saints didn't bite, I'd go to the next team, the next team, and on and on and I would have gotten some good quality players/picks for that pick. I think the Saints would have bitten. They would have gotten rid of McAllister and his salary and would have a player that the Saints fans would have gotten excited about. If it backfired, no one would blame them for it.
It would be very tempting for several of the teams that finished near the bottom of the standings to get a player like Bush that would sell tickets and restore some respectability to their team.
At least the Texans can look forward to getting the first pick next year as well.

Dominick Davis has rushed for 3200 yards in his first three seasons, while also missing a total of eight games in those three seasons. If he stays healthy, he will shut every critic up in America about him. He is a good receiver out of the backfield as well. He should be a very good if not great running back in this league, so the Texans do have a very good RB on their team who is young and extremely talented. Granted not as talented as Bush, but if they selected Reggie they'd just be upgrading the best part of their team, while everything else besides the running games lacks tremendously.

Reggie Bush is the most overrated player I can recall in any draft. A good majority of the things that he pulled off in college, will not happen in the NFL. I was surprised the Saints didn't trade out of that spot and get multiple choices later in the draft. They have a good RB. They have a good PR and KR. They got a stud, but I don't believe that he can ever live up to the hype surrounding him.
Besides, look at the teams that have won titles with the likes of Pittman, Willie Parker (undrafted) Timmy Smith, etc,. A running back is not going to win a title all by himself.

I guess this guy never heard about how Defense Wins Championships.
Extreme talent at the DE position in the NFL is scarce. Extreme talent at the RB position isn't. The RB market in the NFL is flooded right now, that's why it took a few years for Shaun Alexander to land a huge contract. Edge wanted bigger money and went to ARI.
DE's are worth more to a team that has virtually Zero talent at the position, meanwhile the Texans do have decent talent at RB. Their OL is more to blame for that not showing it's full potential, the same has to be said for David Carr.

The Texans made the best choice for their team. Bush is a terrific talent, but where do you put him? They gave Davis a whole lot of money and they traded for Eric Moulds to line up opposite Andre Johnson. I really don't think Bush would have been anything more than a 3rd down back for them. Then you can say he's a great KR/PR guy, but where does that leave Jerome Mathis? Mario Williams will be to the Texans what Julius Peppers is to the Panthers.

I see the points that you guys made and they are well taken. However, reason #3 I listed is the biggest mistake they made WHEN THEY DECIDED TO NOT PICK BUSH! They should have gotten some more for him. To just basically "give him away" to the Saints and not gotten at least some picks in the later rounds is not good strategy. They could have gotten at least a good second round pick this year and probably a first or second round pick in the next draft. Could've helped them a lot in building their team.
They need MORE than a DE to turn their team around.
BTW, the Texans redeemed themselves a little in the later rounds with some good picks. Getting Eric Winston in the third round was a steal!!

Extreme talent at the DE position

You better believe it.

The post kind of lost all credibility right after that was said. And while you are setting up your trade why don't you just ask for the Superdome itself. Hey, if you are dreaming, you might as well dream big i always say. This reminds me of the Philly fans booing McNabb when he got drafted. Now, according to Philly fans, he is the best QB in the league. Go figure.

So how much money was guarenteed in your contract? :D

Reggie Bush is over rated! The Texans did the right thing in taking a top pass rusher and sticking to defense in the draft. You people foget this is a team that plays Indy twice a year (and now must also deal with possibly the best athletic QB in Vince Young) the more they can pressure the QB the better the chance they have. Bush can't do this and without a defense Bush could score 3 TDs a game and Indy will just score right back. Again good job Texans.

The Texans fans have nothing to complain about, their draft looks outstanding to me.

The titans are the ones that should be clubbed like baby seals, they just gave up any chance for a playoff game for the 10 years by drafting Young.
