Yes. This is old news though. 600 for the good one, 500 for the worthless one. I'll just beat a dead horse here by saying Sony screwed their pooch royally by making it a 600 dollar system, considering if you want to by an extra controller plus a game at start, with tax, you're paying close to 800 if you go the 600 dollar version (which really is the one you should go if you do go PS3).

Big deal, if we want it we'll pay for it. When all was said and done, i got my xbox 360 home, with a couple games, xbox live gold, some microsoft points, a couple recharge packs, an extra wireless controller and a media controller, i spent about 1k. now i have easily 1400$ into it

Exactly, but then again, if you have a spare 750-800 dollars, more power to you. My claim is not alot of people actually do have that and are willing. And yes, I do consider it a big deal when Sony doesn't make it affordable.

I have no doubt that the system will sell extremely well despite all the recent negative press. Sadly, Sony will probably still be taking losses on the sale of the hardware despite the 600 dollar price tag. The fact of the matter is they were way too ambitious with the technology that they put in the box. The Cell processor has the potential to be amazing, but they have had such poor yields on it that it looks like it won't even run at the 3.2 they claimed. Latest estimates put it at 2.8 Ghz (I believe their initial goal was 4.0 or 3.5). The RSX graphics processor was a good choice, but the Blu-ray player is the piece that begs the question marks. Blu-ray players are currently selling for about 1,000 dollars. In 3 months, Sony will begin selling the PS3 at 500/600 dollars with an included Blu-Ray player. In that perspective, the PS3 looks like a steal. Half the cost of a Blu-ray player and it can play video games too.
However, in terms of market competition, I believe by having a full year on PS3, Xbox360 has claimed this generation's console war already. This holiday season, parents will be looking to buy their children the next great toy. The Xbox360 will have a large stable of games at that point, with a year on the shelf, and supply has more than caught up with demand at this point. I regularly see 360s available at any store I go to. So when a parent is trying to decide whether to pay 400 dollars for a Xbox360 or 600 dollars for a PS3, they will probably take into consideration the fact that the PS3 will be incredibly difficult to obtain and will have a smaller game selection. Therefore, I believe that the Xbox360 will easily win this holiday season as the smarter buy. However, I am quite sure that the PS3's will sell out immediately at launch. Sony had a great track record with PlayStation and has enough blind loyal fans to gobble up the 600 dollar gaming machines.
Personally, I plan on purchasing the PS3, just not any time soon. If I end up standing in line for one, it will only be to sell it on eBay.

That isn't the way the controller is going to look anymore. They decided, if it isn't broke, dont fix it. Its way too small in my opinion, so yes it was broke.
link. (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/engadget-and-joystiqs-live-coverage-of-sonys-playstation-3-e3-ev/) The only difference from the ps2 controller is it's lighter, and they decided to add in motion detection, then they could pin something on microsoft for being "the odd man out".
