I never have. I've heard a few people talking it, saying it's the best game ever etc.

Any truth to that? What's the big deal about it?

There was a thread on it a while back.

Personally, I just got off it. Unless you can spend 5-6 hours a night raiding to get the best gear, it's really just not worth the time, in my opinion. (School interfered with this, so I quit.) The grind to 60 is fun, but it only lasts so long, and unless you can raid (which requires 20-40 other people), the raiders will utterly wipe the floor with you in PvP matches.

The biggest problem with the game now is that the gear gap between the casual gamers and the raiders is absolutely staggering. While most of the casual fans have the crappy epics from the 20 main raids, the hardcore raiders now have 4 huge (40 man) raid instances to pull gear from.

I could go on for pages about the game, but I won't. It's a great game, but until Blizzard fixes this problem, I'm not returning to it. I'll just stick with Guild Wars, which I can play on a much more casual level (which is nice considering my school schedule). Plus, Guild Wars is free, and you can't really argue with that.

PS: The best game ever made in terms of what it brought to the industry and its qualities as a game is Half-Life 2. That, however, is my opinion, and it's for another thread.

How do the graphics and game-play of w.o.w compare to guild wars?

WoW's graphics are amazing. The gameplay is extensive and fun, too. I haven't played Guild Wars, but I agree with Legacy on the aspect of the game. I am working on a new account on a very new server so the difference is very minimal, but it's going to come sometime. The storyline of getting to level 60 is great, but the gear grind is boring and repetative. They are attempting to fix it in the expansion coming out in late November.

All they are doing ot alleviate the gear grind is reducing the raid sizes to 25 maximum. The instances will remain as big as they currently are, and with so many new ones, players will still have to raid several hours a night to get their gear.

As for the graphics and gameplay, it's really not a fair comparison. The graphical styles are different. Both are great, in my opinion. As far as gameplay goes, WoW plays more like a true MMO, while Guild Wars plays more like a single player game compared to it.

If you're torn over the two, buy Guild Wars first, since it has no monthly fee. If you decide you want something with more human interaction outside of cities, WoW is probably for you. Just be prepared to be utterly destroyed in PvP unless you can raid 5+ hours nearly every day of the week.

I have the trailer from the Tokyo game show of Half Life 2: Chapter 2... you see it yet?

Nope. I've seen the trailers for Portals and Team Fortress 2, though. That's all I need to see to want Episode 2. :)

It doesn't go as much into gamplay as it does about the storyline. I like the new and improved "portals" vid though, that was great. Team fortress 2 looks cool, but i think it lacks in graphic quality. One that's going basicly under the wire is Frontline: Fuel Of War. I don't know if the trailer is pre-rendered, but it has some serious firepower and kick *** graphics.

Another note about the portals, you should check out some of the Mod's videos on portals and Half Life on youtube. There are some really enjoyable moments, sure to entertain you for enough time to wolf down a snack, maybe longer. :D There are some really innovative ideas coming from that company.

Also, the trailer for Rainbow Six: Vegas is out.

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

WOW is 7eet homies.(never played, just heard.)

Its a great game...no doubt. I've been playing on and off for nearly 2 years and I'll agree to the raiding part. Once you hit the lvl cap, its either roll another toon or go gear grinding in 40 man raids and personally I"m so sick of the population on WoW's servers that I definately don't enjoy hanging out with 39 of them for 4 hours at a time. Still, the grind from 1-60 is fun as hell and its worth it for that alone.

I cancelled my WoW account about a month ago...I don't see myself ever playing it again. People are much more fun in real life then behind a computer.

The revamped EQ2 > WoW
Classic DAoC > WoW.

I have been a online RP gamer since Everquest came out in late 98. I have played pretty much every online RPG out there and While WoW is immersive it gets old after about 40 levels. I find my self quiting after several monthes, and I have tried the game about 3 different times. As someone stated the purpose of the game really is high level raiding. That gets old after a while. The level grind in my opinion sucks as well. It is not really very casual friendly. It can be if you are in the right guild, or know people to constantly group with. The grouping game from low to mid level sucks. No one really likes to group and get exp. The only time I have found grouping for exp is if someone is trying to do a multi quest, or do a raid. WoW is the only game I have not had fun in when it comes to grouping for several hours grinding out exp. Solo exp gets old after while.

Guild Wars, why? 'Cause it's free.

That's what I'm playing now.

Guild Wars is fun, as long as you understand that it's a MMO hybrid. If you try to force it to be like a traditional MMO, you'll wind up hating it, but if you play it as it is, it's a lot of fun.
