View Full Version : The Official Non-Florida school, Non-SEC discussion thread

Not that I have anything against Florida schools or the SEC, but there are a lot of threads already about things pertaining to them. I have a general knowledge of the SEC and Florida schools, but not really enough to get involved in discussions about them without coming off as a hater or Pac-10/USC homer. So here's a thread for all the non-Florida school non-SEC talk for anyone else who just may be in my boat.
(And yes, I do realize this is a Tampa Bay board, which is in Florida.)
I'll start. Should Oklahoma be higher in the polls, and more importantly, the BCS? They are likely to emerge as the Big 12 champs, but with two losses, they're out of the National Title picture. However, their loss to Oregon came on a controversial play that has been confirmed as a completely wrong call by Pac-10 officials and their only other loss was to rival Texas. A lot of talk after the Oregon game was that if Oklahoma had only that loss or only two losses, that loss should and would be ignored by voters. But in the most recent polls, the 9-2/should-be-10-1 Sooners were still lumped with two-loss Arkansas, Notre Dame, and Auburn and below one-loss Louisville and two-loss LSU.
I'm not saying they should be in the mix with Michigan, Florida, and USC, but that maybe they should be at least a little higher than they are now, #12 in the BCS.
Discuss.

I think they should be ahead of maybe a few of those teams, but not many. I realize that they lost to Oregon based on complete crap, but the computers don't recognize stuff like that. Their strength of schedule probably isn't near what the SEC schools have (I assume at least). And the teams that have two losses on your list have mainly lost to each other or one of the top 4 teams. Oklahoma's losses came to lesser opponents, even though it was crap up in Oregon.

Why does everyone insist the SEC schools have such a tough schedule? Florida has arguably the toughest schedule, but USC is #2. None of the other SEC teams in the top 25 have an SOS in the top 10.

I'm a Big 10 fan, myself. My favorite team being the Nittany Lions, obviously. :D
I was hoping to see a rematch of OSU and Michigan in the title game, but I guess I'll just have to settle for watching the Buckeyes utterly destroy USC. (Which is fine, because I hate USC with a passion.)

Ha! Should be a good one. I have a hard time seeing USC getting embarrassed by anyone though. I'm a Noles fan, but I like following the local teams since I moved out here 10 years ago.

I'm a big Buckeye backker and I can't see USC getting blown out either. I expect Ohio State to win, but not in a laugher.

Hmm, and yet I am about to make this related to the SEC. I think that if Florida loses the SEC championship, they could still be in the mix for a BCS bowl. If Arkansas loses, however, they will most likely drop out of the BCS mix and allow a team like Oklahoma to jump in.
Fiesta Bowl, perhaps?

If Oklahoma gets any BCS Bowl, it has to be Fiesta.

Alright, it seems that Fiesta would be the BCS bowl that Oklahoma would go to if any. So much for that great discussion.
But the potential and likely Ohio State-USC matchup looms. How does it go down? Who wins, by how much, and how does it happen? Who breaks out and who goes cold? Let 'er rip!
My prediction:
I say USC shocks the world, with Booty playing the game of his life to the tune of 350 and 4. The USC defense finds a way to contain Troy and 7-11, with their linebacking corps being the star unit. It's a shootout, 41-35 or so.

USC beating anyone wouldn't exactly be shocking the world.

True, but I think invincible Ohio State losing would be.
Immovable object vs. irresistable force.

Ohio University, playing for the MAC championship tomorrow, and playing in the GMAC bowl Jan. 7th in Mobile, Alabama, against whoever loses the Conf. USA championship game
i'm going to try and go to this game if the school offers something, it'd be a good chance to see part of the country

I think it's irrelevant, because I think Big Red is going to knock them off this weekend anyway, before beating Boise State in the Fiesta.

I will take Florida in the upcoming SEC Championship game only because the force they have with Tim T.

So is Oklahoma in the Big 12 champ game with
the Longhorns loss?
If Okla wins Big 12 they would get a bcs bowl game.
Right?
Ohio U did indeed blow up in the game.

I still have that funny feeling that UCLA pulls the shocker of the season ala Oregon State and wins over USC... dear god, would that cause some BSC turmoil. Depending on what part of the country you live in, Ohio State could be playing Michigan, Florida, or maybe even undefeated Boise State [extremely unlikely] for the championship. For Florida to make it to the title game instead of Michigan incase of a USC fallout, Meyer's bunch would have to blow out Arkansas by 30+ points to sway the voters [excuse the SEC reference]

I still think it'd be Michigan, even under that scenario. I might be wrong though. I get the impression from the talking heads that most voters think of Florida juuuuust on the outside looking in of a 3 team race. Perception is reality, especially where polls are concerned.
