My family has done a fantasy football league for several years now. This year I got off to a slow start - 0-3. I pulled off 3 wins in a row to get back to .500, but then lost 3 of the next 4. What seemed like the final nail in the coffin came week 11 when I had a lead going into MNF against my sister-in-law who was in 4th place (thanks to LT putting up half her score) and Shockey caught 7 passes to sink me to 4-7 with 3 games left.
I managed to win the next two weeks to get back to 6-7 to keep myself from being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but the only way I could get in was for the two people immediately ahead of me to lose and I needed to be my father-in-law who had the highest total score in the league.
Somehow both of the people ahead of me did lose, but after the afternoon games I was down by 20 to my father-in-law (he had Maurice Jones-Drew). It looked pretty hopeless because we each had one RB left. He had Marion Barber, who had put up 15 points the week before, but Sunday night against the Saints he managed -0.05 points. That still let me with a 20 point deficit and one player to go... Stephen Jackson.
Jackson got some rushing yards and a couple of catches, but not much early on. A few minutes into the second quarter the Rams got down to the 1, handed the ball off to Jackson and he got stuffed - no gain. Next play Bulger to Holt for a TD. But 5 minutes later Jackson got another opportunity near the goal line and put it in. At halftime I had half of the 20 points I needed.
The Bears blew the game open in the 3rd quarter and again I thought my hopes had been dashed as I figured that was the end of the Rams running game. But, they threw a lot of dump off passes which netted Jackon some more points, which gave me hope. That is until Jackson went down with an injury and they put Stephen Davis in. Into the 4th quarter... Bulger to Holt for another TD... Hester returns the following kick-off for a TD... I'm still losing by 6 points with 7 minutes left in the game. Bulger leads the Rams down the field and with less than 5 minutes to go...
Bulger to Jackson for a 6 yard TD! I win the game! I finish the season tied with 3 other people for the final playoff spot, and have the tie-breaker. Playoffs here I come! Woohoo! :rotf:
