So now that they have both been out for a bit I'm sure there are some of you who have both if not who have experienced both. What I am wondering is which one to get? Don't want to make the same mistake as last time when I spent my money on the Dream Cast to watch it fade away and then had to spend more money on a PS2 (twice since the first one broke).

First of all price. 360 is much more attractive there coming in at 400 dollars to the 600 dollars for PS3. Though if I want the HD section have to spend the extra 200 which makes the prices even. That could be a future consideration though. Also 360 seems more prepared if the technology its backing is the betamax of the two. While if Blu Ray is the betamax can't get a HD drive for the PS3.

The games I play are pretty much sports games and grand theft auto. PS had an advantage last time since at first they were the only ones to have GTA and then they always had it like a year before everything else. Now GTA 4 is suppose to come out on everything at once. No advantage there. Also EA makes sports games on all systems that come out at once so neither one have an advantage there. Though I really wanted to play Dead Rising which is only on 360 I believe.

So right now what I am looking at is price and which one has better graphics? Any informed opinions please chime in. Also any other considerations like the fact that xbox 360 doesn't have the HDMI output. Also I think 360 only has 4 controls max while PS3 has 8 (like i'm going to be playing with more than myself anyway).

The only other thing I can think of is that Blu Ray holds more data, so possibly could have a game that takes up more space on one of their disks. Though thinking about it probably won't have any game that isn't programmed for both and thus no game would take up that much extra space?

BTW, I have no HD TV and that probably won't be in my poor self plans for a long time.

Imho, without an HD TV, you should go with the 360. The two main selling points for the PS3 are the blue ray's ability to transmit 1080p and first party titles.

Clearly, the 1080p does not pertain here, and 360 has a better line up of games. How can you argue with Halo 3 and the just beginning Gears trilogy? BTW, the Xbox plays games in high def, but you need the seperate drive for hd dvd. Furthermore, the additional drive does not brodcast in 1080p, so it is not really worth it.

Just my opinion, but I hope this helps.

Edit: GTA IV will have exclusive, downloadable content on each system. It is impossible to guess which system will get the better content beyond the actual game.

Thanks. It does help. I'm probably going to take a bit of time mulling it over. Especially with the prices these things go for now its a major purchase and decision. One thing I'm hoping to do is get to play them at the same time and see what is different to me. In game play and graphics.

Call your local TRU.

This deal is the best... my cousin and my brother are going later tonight to buy themselves each a 360. :)

I would really call and find out when the deal ends.

I'm in the same situation... I do have HDTV but its only 720p. In your situation i'd go for the 360. What do you guys think I should do?

Both systems can display in 1080p. The PS3 requires the purchase of an HD cable, while the 360 Premium comes with a HD component cable. The 360 does not currently have HDMI cables, while the PS3 does.

However, all of this is really meaningless because most game developers are currently aiming their target at 720p. The few games that are in 1080p have not looked very good thus far (ex. PS3's NBA game). This console generation will be focused on 720p, so if you have a TV capable of that, you are okay.

Right now, this is all irrevelant to me since I own a basic 32" flat screen sdtv.

I'll take the 360 over the ps3 because of the games and the online play is better.

The Xbox HD DVD can not brodast in 1080p. That was what I was referring to, sorry.
