I am thinking about getting Xbox Live but I have no clue how it works. Could someone give me all the details.

It's very simple.
Plug your high speed internet cable into the 360. The menu will pop right up and will walk you through the process. You'll put in your credit card number right there and everything. I believe it was $50 for a 1 year gold subscription. It was ery easy for me, and technology absolutely despises me.
It is definitely worth it.

that pretty much explains it. the better question is have you bought an x-box 360n system yet? if you haven't, and plan on buying one, get a pro-system (400 dollar version) they give you one free month of Xbox live gold which allows you to play games along there you can see if x-box live is meant for you.

You beat me to it. Try before you buy and you will see for yourself. You can also do a silver account without entering any CC information and you can DL some demos.

I have a Xbox 360 core system. And I think that I will like Xbox Live.

you need to get a hard drive.
Without one I don't think you can use Live because there are always system updates...
As for Xbox Live, it is greatly worth it... extends the life of your games. It never gets old playing and meeting new friends online.

I think I am going to get a hard drive because of the music. But in case I change my mind on the hard drive can I still get Xbox Live without it?

I don't think so bro. Like I said there a lot of cool new updates that your 360 will download once you connect to Live...and for that you need a hard drive. Plus without a hard drive you can't get DL additional content for your games... or demo's, trailers etc...
