nope, just going off of the last date I heard, I don't really keep up with this stuff.

I think they have pushed it back a few times, which is good, I'd rather them have it dialed in right away than have to release a bunch of patches.

thats what they are going to do. The beta will be in Spring, that should tell you something. ;)

Halo 1 released on Dec. 3

Halo 2 released on Nov. 9

they'll keep that trend going...it will be a big holiday season for microsoft.

I'm not a Halo fan. In fact, I thought the first two stunk. They're really just not my cup of tea.

HoodedChampion is right, though. Halo 3 will be released sometime in the Fall at the earliest. The game is still in the alpha testing phases, and Bungie is gearing up to take it into the beta-testing phase sometime within the next few months. Once that happens, they'll spend a few months gathering and analyzing feedback from testers. After that, they'll take whatever time they need to implement whatever feedback they like.

Those of you who've heard it will be released in the Spring probably heard the original estimates given by Bungie and Microsoft. The fact is, though, that almost every major game on the market today gets delayed at some point, so it should come as no suprise that Bungie can't meet their original expected release date.

That doesn't have to be a bad thing, though. Taking a few extra months to work through the whole development cycle and add extra polish to the game is important, especially for consoles. Working out as many bugs as possible is integral for console releases, since developers don't have the luxury of being able to rely on patches like PC developers do. As much as they'd like to be able to, the fact is that not everyone has XBox Live (I don't.), so releasing a game with game-breaking bugs can hurt your sales with those customers.

Everyone who is clamoring for Halo 3 should check out the Half-Life series that is coming to the 360. Better series, graphics, story, etc....
Don't miss this, especially if you have never played Half Life on the computer.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2 with Portals and Team Fortress 2. *drool* Heck, Half-Life 2: Episode 2 would more than warrant the purchase alone, since it's a continuation of the best FPS franchise ever.

But, this thread is about Halo. Let's stick with that.

Buy a specially marked copy of Crackdown on Feb. 20 and you get a guaranteed spot for the Halo 3 beta.

I know, but I doubt I would like the game....
I can't wait for Crackdown. The demo will be out on Tuesday @ 5am.
Check it out!

I know, but I doubt I would like the game.... wonder if I could rent it?
As Hooded said, you have to purchase a specially marked copy of the game on Feb 20, or you won't get the beta access with the promotion. Renting it won't get you anything.
