Okay, I know there's a lot of people (myself included) that think that Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech is the best WR prospect seen in a LONG time. However, drafts are notoriously fickle, and as the saying goes, "anything can happen......". I pose this question to you, the fine denizens of the TBBB. Say CJ, by some fluke, is gone by the time we pick. Would we be as happy with Joe Thomas, Gaines Adams, or someone else?? Reason I'm asking is because I feel we could use the help that Adams or Thomas could give us (admit it, our OL is not altogether terrific.....), and this leaves us open to gain a WR deeper in the draft (a name that springs to mind is either Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee, or Steve Breaston, WR, Michigan.)........your thoughts??

Gaines Adams SUCKS! Please leave him off any discussion of what we will do regardless of where we pick in the top 10... Jamaal Anderson BLOWS him out of the water..
Also, Steve Breaston is absolutely horrible, you want to talk about Meachem, Rice, even Jacoby Jones, fine but please don't lump Breaston in with players with enough talent to actually be decent in the NFL...

My apologies.......wish the name was Manningham instead of Breaston......
Why do you say that about Adams??

first of all it might not be just a fluke that CJ is gone by tampa's pick, there are teams that want him and these teams might give up too much to get him.
second, he's the best WR prospect you've seen in 4 years
third what do you mean by deeper in the draft? like early 2nd, late 2nd, early 3rd, 2nd day?
4th don't listen to JW, he only says adam's sucks because he doesn't like him. he's a good player but he's not worthy of the pick

I don't like him because he's not worthy of the pick and because we don't currently need a guy that can only play RDE, he is in my mind a fringe top 10 prospect, sure he MIGHT end up there but the chances are 50/50 that after the combine and interviews that he will end up there.
Adams was a 5th year senior and it took right up until his 5th year for him to become a really good player. He didn't even win a starting job until his junior (4th) season... Now if we're talking about an elite athlete, great player, etc.. Don't you think Adams could have conceivably won the job much sooner in his career? Peppers and WIlliams both started as freshmen, Ark's Jamaal Anderson won the starter's job as a true sophomore and dominated as a true junior while it took Adams 5 seasons to become a statistically dominant player. Players slow to establish themselves in college are also likely to be slow to establish themselves in the pros.
Also, Adams is like a poor-man's Simeon Rice, he has Simeon's size (but not quite his sleek build) but doesn't have Simeon's trademark speed (which is a huge part of being a speed rushing DE)... Also, he can only play RDE which coincidentally we already have and if we want to contend this season then we don't need to add players that already play a position that somebody better than them plays. Like it or not but Simeon's under contract and it would be silly to draft a guy that is physically and technically inferior to him and expect him to help this team right away. Gaines Adams would be fine if we were drafting 12th or 13th and we didn't have much bigger needs on D like UT, LDE, WLB, MLB, and S which I also wouldn't condone taking in the top 10)
