Now that the Falcons have 3 picks in the top 45 picks and the Texans don't need a QB, how does this affect the draft?

I think it eliminates the Texans from trade up possibilities and increases the Falcons possibilities. I figured the Falcons were just going to stand pat, but I think they have certainly acquired the ammo needed to trade up for CJ.

If the Falcons wanted to get CJ, they would have to trade up to at least the #3 pick if not higher. To get to the #3 pick they would have to trade their #10 overall and both of their 2nd rounders (according to the draft trade value chart (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/features/valuechart.html). Considering Schaub was really the only player they could offer up in a trade, they would have to trade their entire draft to get to #2 overall, and they don't have the ammo to trade up to #1 overall. So the Falcons trading up for CJ is still an unlikely situation. What's more likely is that the Falcons realize their whole franchise is invested in Vick and that Schaub will never start over him, so they want to get something good for him now before he just leaves as a FA.

I think we all know who the Falcons have their eyes on in the upcoming draft. We will all have gray hair by the time the draft rolls around in April.

Don't forget about future picks and some of those WRs.

I wouldn't call it unlikely. McKay isn't afraid to give away a lot of picks when it comes to things like this. Look what he gave up for Keyshawn. I would not be suprised to see him give up all of their first and second rounders to move up.

I was actually completely convinced that they would take Levi Brown if he was there at #10. Petrino wants beef up front...maybe trading for an extra 2nd rounder is to help shore up that DE position.

Its not impossible, but it would still take a lot for the Falcons to move up for CJ. I did the calculations according to the draft trade value chart, but the chart is just a guildeline. With the amount of teams interested in CJ (us, Minnesota, Atlanta, and I'm sure some other teams), I would venutre to say that if someone trades up, they'll have to pay more than usual to get to the #3 spot. And while I would hate to see CJ with the Falcons, I would laugh if they gave up this year's draft and next year's (in future picks) just to get him. They would have a world class receiver and the rest of the team would suck.

Basically, it means:

The Texans won't take Brady Quinn if he falls to them at 8th overall. It gives them the ability to focus on other positions of need while feeling comfortable that they have their next future QB already on their roster.

The Falcons could potentially make the move to trade up for Calvin Johnson. Blank knows CJ will sell more tickets than any of the other 3 picks they would make combined. I don't expect it to happen until draft day though, when they know that he is still on the board (I'm guessing trade talks will be starting soon with the Lions, Browns and Bucs if they haven't already).

While I'd love for the Bucs and Falcons to swap and getting those 2 2nd round picks of theirs...I don't think Rich McKay would even try to call the Bucs for a trade..

Please Lord, let the Falcons want that pick to shore up there defence!

Cleveland would take #10 and those 2 2nd rounders in a heartbeat. Unless of course they have fallen in love with Joe Thomas.

So a fricking coin flip and a lousy win over the lousy Browns, is going to cost us our hero to our worst foe!

Do they have the cap room to pay a #2 pick?
I keep reading about their cap space, or lack of. #2 is a good size signing bonus.

Quinn will be a top 5 pick IMO.

This is a four horse draft, Thomas, Russell, Johnson, and Quinn. Looking at the needs of the top four I dont see them trading down for lesser tallent, any of these guys could be a #1 pick. The only thing I can see happening is if perhaps Quinn falls to the Falcons, then they trade Quinn and some picks to someone like the Raiders who had selected Johnson, sort of a Eli Manning deal. But I dont see Quinn falling to #7

I'd be fine if they traded up...

... with us, offering their newly acquired and their original 1st rounders :grinno: :grinyes: :grinno:

It means Calvin Johnson will be wasted in Atlanta...

And we'll be looking at D....

What this trade essentially tells us for sure:

1. Brady Quinn will not be a Houston Texan

2. Brady Quinn will not go past the 7th pick in the draft to Minnesota

3. David Carr will be traded on draft day, more than likely toward the end of the 1st day to someone who didnt get Quinn, Russell, Trent Edwards, or Drew Stanton.

3. IF Atlanta gets Calvin Johnson, it will be their ONLY pick on day one, as they will have to give a team the rest of the first day picks to move up (Oak or Det).

4. IF Atlanta does not go after CJ, they have made it much easier to acquire Laron Landry.

What we can safely assume:

1. They would have to only give up their third round pick to move from 8 to 6 in order to assure themselves Laron Landry or Okoye, the only two guys they can possibly want after CJ

2. They are lurking towards our 4th pick, making it look likely another trade is imminent.

3. I am scared right now.

Schaub might be another rob johnson? Jury is still out... Great move for atl. Now they have plenty of firepower to move up in this years draft to get CJ for Vick. They would land CJ and still have a second round pick. Trade the 8th,39th,75th picks in this years draft and next years second round pick they just received from Houston. This is what a real GM does. Vick will still overthrow CJ by a mile just like he does everyone else. Mike "no touch" Vick...

In order to move from #8 to #2 ATL would most likely have to give up the #8, both 2nds and their 3rd.

I think it eliminates the Texans from trade up possibilities and increases the Falcons possibilities. I figured the Falcons were just going to stand pat, but I think they have certainly acquired the ammo needed to trade up for CJ.

I spend a lot of time on the Raider message boards and from what the main topic there is them getting Carr. In that situation they most likely will:
A ~ take CJ
B ~ take Russell
C ~ move down in the draft.
I still can't figure out for the life of me why they are all so gong ho about getting Carr and then grabbing CJ. Their O lone is a bad as ours and Carr is barely better than Simms. But, than again, Al Davis isn't known to make the best decisions.
It is also highly rumored on both the Falcons and message boards that Atlanta
is working to move into the #1 spot to grab CJ, as I know has been mentioned in here before. I'm just saying it's being talked up a bunch in those 2 places.
It's by far not the end of the world if we can't get CJ though, we have so many other holes to fill it shouldn't be such a huge issue.
