The worst possible thing that could come of the Schaub trade would be a subsequent trade of Carr by Houston to the Raiders.

At least if that happened the Raiders would probably take CJ, keeping him away from the Falcons. If we can't get CJ I don't want the Falcons to get him either.

Great for us, in some way, if Atlanta makes a trade to move up, before Oakland takes CJ.
I doubt they would make a trade, unless they knew he was available.

Teams NEVER trade up in the draft until they know for sure the player they want is available.

Normally yes, but when you hear quite a few teams would be interested in CJ, Atlanta (or any other team) might not want to wait.
The only sure thing is to go to #1, but Ol' Al is gonna want more than 2 #2's and a 8-10 pick.

Even in this case. Because to trade up to #2 overall for CJ, and then have CJ taken at #1 would be the dumbest move by a team in the history of the draft. I gurantee you that no team trades up until they know for sure that the player they want is available.

So if David Carr goes to Oakland then we can assume what?
1. They would give up their 3rd rounder and go for CJ.
Detroit now would have the possibility of:
1. trading their pick to someone who wants Russell
2. same for Quinn
3. drafting Russell or Quinn
IF these are Detroits three scenarios they should find SOMEONE who wants either of them and trade down, but I think they go w/ Quinn here.
Cleveland now decides:
1. Do they go w/ Thomas?
2. Do they go w/ Russell?
3. Do they trade for someone who wants Russell?
Who would want him here at 3? Miami? Minnesota? US? I think Cleveland drafts Russell, best player in draft at that pick.
Then we land Thomas I guess. At that point, I would rather trade down and get Landry before Atlanta gets him and laugh in their face.

It would be stupid for the Raiders to even want Carr. I mean he is being booted out of Houston of all places, not to mention, their qb bench is even more pathetic than ours!

This would be the greatest thing to happen since the invention of ketchup!!!
Oakland takes Calvin, we don't have to trade up, Bucs don't get CJ, and we can stay put and take Landry and stockpile all kinds of players.
Dude, this is a freaking great scenario!

I'm fine with not getting CJ if our consolation prize is Joe Thomas or trading down and getting a defensive star like Okoye, Carriker, Willis, or Landry.

This is bad for two reasons if you're a CJ fan.
For one, as the poster said, this could mean Carr to the Raiders, who would then take CJ instead of Russell.
Two, the Falcons now have enough trade fodder to move into the top three for CJ, if someone is willing to trade back.
Again, as of right now, CJ should still be on the board at #4, but today didn't strengthen the possibility it will stay that way.

Totally agree with one exception. I don't want the Falcons to get CJ. If Oakland gets him, fine. If Detroit gets him fine. If Cleveland gets him fine. Just not someone in our division.

I personally hope Carr is traded to detroit. Jon Kitna threw for over 4000 last year, and Martz loves a challenge. Could you imagine what he could do with a battle-tested starter in Carr?
