microsoft has been feeling pressure as the wii sales are catching up and honestly i think this is a move of desperation.but i mean 2 years without a price drop is kind of long. All i know is i am defintltey getting one with madden 08.

It will boost some sales but I doubt everyone goes into a buying frenzy since its only $50

I highly doubt the move to reduce the price is an act of desperation, especially with the release of Halo 3 about a month and a half away. The price drop is most likely a result of the components of the 360 becoming cheaper. The prices of consoles traditionally drop $20-50 after a while because the manufacturers find ways to produce them more efficiently than they could originally.

I doubt that the sales of Nintendo's Wii are putting pressure on Microsoft, since the systems' primary markets don't overlap by a great deal. Most of Microsoft's attempts to steal some of Nintendo's market share in the younger audience have been met with only moderate success. The only thing that would really concern Microsoft is if Nintendo consistently started securing launch titles with T and M ratings. If Nintendo managed to get Take-Two to release Grand Theft Auto for the Wii (which they are reportedly trying to get them to do), it'd definitely put Microsoft on notice, but until then, I think they can comfortably stick with what they're doing.

It's not an act of desperation.

Ps2 and the original xbox both cut prices within 20 months of there releases as well. It's normal for a price drop to happen around this time. It's not desperation, especially with the big titles coming out within the next 4 months.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii sales caught the 360...but this is hardly in response to that. You can't really compare the two consoles, they are made for two completely different markets. The Wii is made more for the younger age group, and those who wants to play "fun" games on a budget. No HD graphics, etc. The only real fair comparison of any system is between the PS3 and 360...please keep the Wii in its own category where it belongs.
