I have a friend who has a HDTV, it is an older model, projection HDTV, 720.

He is getting a 360, but is not sure wether to get the premium (which I suggest), or the Elite.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only difference is the color (very cool, but purely cosmetic), the HDMI cable (expensive, but he won't be able to use it with his TV), and the storage space (120 versus 20).

The speed levels are the same, from the chip specs I am looking at, the reviews say the noise still resembles a shop-vac, and unless you absolutely download everything on your 360, and store all your music on it, is it worth it for him to waste that 120 on that, when he could just go out and get two new games for the difference?

What are your thoughts on the comparisons between the two? Any thoughts on the matter would be helpful, thanks.:)

well my friend recently bought an elite after his regular prem died and the towel trick wasn't working for him. you're right on the difference except for two things. yeah it comes with an hdmi cable, but unless you're gonna buy one of the new prem, which are very hard to find mind you, you're mainly buying the hdmi port. without it, 1080p cannot be reached.

and secondly, his 360 makes alot less noise than my prem. if money aint' a problem, just go with the elite.

I would go for the Elite just for the HDMI port. Even if his current tv does not support it, if he ever gets a 1080p capable tv he will regret his decision. I'll sell him my prem, and get an elite. ;)

He bought a new 360, and it came with an HDMI port. He has a new generation premium 360, I wonder if it is still plagued with the same issues (Red Ringitis) that my, and the older model 360's still have. Knockin' on wood.

And 1080i Madden is awesome. As is Gears of War, and GRAW 2, etc...You ain't playin' 360, unless you playin' High Definition.

What a long way gaming has come.:grinyes:

Are you sure about that? My brother just got a new premium this weekend and it lacks an HDMI port. Also, I thought that was major selling point of the elite.

This is true, be careful which premium box you select as some have the HDMI and others do not. Just verify on the box before purchasing.

You need HDMI to get 1080p, and it sends a digital sound signal.

The 360 is capable of sending 1080p via component and VGA, but not many TVs can accept 1080p over component or VGA.

The big thing is if you ever plan on watching high def movies over your 360. There's a DRM issue with the AACS that won't allow HD-DVD/Blu-Ray movies to be played any higher than 1080i over component.

Honestly with the price difference right now, it would make a MUCH better deal to spend the $75 or so extra bucks and get an elite over the premium. I got my premium about 2 months before they announced the elite was being released and I hated myself ever since. Now that they are down to $450 though, I am gonna return my premium and drop the difference to get the much bigger hard drive and better equipped elite.... and put my Bucs faceplate back on it. :grinyes:

yeah I'm gonna get an elite too, but i'm just waiting for all the "Limited editions" to run out and them to come out with a white elite. looks much better with my dodgers faceplate.

I was thinking of swapping our systems. My TV accepts HDMI cable, his doesn't.

So in answer to your query, yes, his 360 has a HDMI output. Believe it. Or not.

My 1080i 360 signal (try Bioshock...GREAT game on high def) is monstrously good. I have watched HDMI on a higher end flat screen than I own, and honestly, I could not tell the diff.

And I have digital eyes.;)
