Anyone know who this kid in U of Houston is?
seems to be putting up good numbers this year both rushing and receiving.
and supposedly he has 4.35 speed.
Is this kid a back we look at in the middle rounds for sure? We really need speed at rb and return man.
He seems to have return experience also. I would love it if someone could tell me how he looks in person.

Also, i think we are drafting two rb's next year. Who else would we look at. Chris johnson at ECU? Has good speed also but not many carries.

Is Slaton an option? Do we skip a potential franchise DT and go RB?

Is Smith from ucf coming out this year?

what do you folks think?

Ok guys, since no one replied, i had to look him up myself.
Youtube has a few highlights, kid looks fast and more than capable of pass catching in a west coast system.
Again, anyone who watches C-usa and has seen houston play this year, can you tell me how he looks live. There are only so many things that highlights can show.

While looking at aAlridge I stumbled upon Houston WR Donnie Avery. These were Kevin Kolbs two big weapons that helped him ascend to the early second round last April. Possibly another good look for the Buc's in the early to middle rounds in this years draft. THE YOUNG MAN IS FAST. Is said to have run a 4.2 40 yd dash. Below is a quote from some local podcaster about the kid...

"I just spoke with a buddy of mine who is an NFL scout and has been making the rounds at several schools and he just got back from UH's practice. He is in love with Cougar WR Donnie Avery. He's always liked Avery's NFL potential but he is seeing even more from Avery. He said Donnie Avery could fit into his team's WR corps right now (and his team has a good WR corps) and he promised me that Avery could step in and be the #2 or #3 WR for the Texans."

Hopefully he stays under the radar (being from C-USA) for a few rounds.

Also, since many have peeked but no one replied to this original posting I will now use this thread as my own personal scouting board. Hopefully getting the word out about potential players falling beyond the first 2 rounds.

UPDATE...
Cougars Duo Hard To Stop

Houston
Source: Houston Chronicle Rice's David Bailiff watched Donnie Avery and Anthony Alridge dismantle the Owls last Saturday en route to a record-setting night. When the clock finally ran out on Houston's 56-48 victory, Avery had 346 receiving yards, which set school and Conference USA records, and two touchdowns, while Alridge added 205 rushing yards and four scores. It was the first time in major college history that teammates had 300-plus receiving yards and 200-plus rushing yards in the same game.
Analysis: 10/19 10:23 Houston is eighth in the nation in total offense.

WR Dexter Jackson Appalachian St.
Yes, the Appalachian st. that upset Michigan this year.
5-10 180 pounds or so. The kid scored two times agains Mich and has good speed from what I've seen, which is limited. Not sure just how fast but some sites have him listed in the 4.3's. His stats aren't blowing anyone away, but up to this point he is averaging over 20yds / comp and has two rushes over 20 yds.
With a good qb, who knows what kind of stats he'd be putting up. A good mid to late round sleeper as of right now, but in all the hype from feb to april who knows how his stock will rise...not to over use an already dead footaball cliche but...ya can't coach speed!

He would look good in pewter and red. We have a handful of bigs (stovall and clayton) we need some speed.

Alright, my other guy from the intial posting was RB Chris Johnson from ECU.
5-11 around 200lbs. Seems to have run a 40 as low as 4.20 and ran a 10.62 in the 100m in HIGH SCHOOL  He also benched 315lb there as well.

The guy is from Orlando so he'd be a bit of a homer. He returns kicks and set a school record in receiving yards last year with 760. Hmm...so Chris has got some hands. Wonder how good hands and speed fit into the west coast offense?
Seems to be a lock at for the third rd this April but look for the late second as Mel Kiper Jr shines the spotlight on him. If he falls to the fourth....trade up and take him!!

Here's an example of what he did this year against UCF( which is not a bad team, just not a good one):

Scoring Summary First Quarter UCF ECU
CURTIS FRANCIS 93 YD KICK RETURN (MICHAEL TORRES KICK) 14:45 7 0
CHRIS JOHNSON 8 YD RUN (BEN HARTMAN KICK) 12:18 7 7
KAMAR AIKEN 21 YD PASS FROM KYLE ISRAEL (MICHAEL TORRES KICK) 3:47 14 7
Second Quarter UCF ECU
A.J. GUYTON 39 YD PASS FROM KYLE ISRAEL (MICHAEL TORRES KICK) 10:56 21 7
CHRIS JOHNSON 72 YD PASS FROM ROBERT KASS (BEN HARTMAN KICK) 9:28 21 14
KEVIN SMITH 1 YD RUN (MICHAEL TORRES KICK) 1:34 28 14
BEN HARTMAN 24 YD FG 0:12 28 17
Third Quarter UCF ECU
CHRIS JOHNSON 96 YD KICK RETURN (BEN HARTMAN KICK) 14:46 28 24
MICHAEL TORRES 20 YD FG 12:02 31 24
JAMAR BRYANT 6 YD PASS FROM ROBERT KASS (BEN HARTMAN KICK) 8:16 31 31
DAVON DREW 20 YD PASS FROM ROBERT KASS (BEN HARTMAN KICK) 3:18 31 38

WR Eddie Royal, WR Virginia Tech

someone who is not putting up outstanding statistics this season but seems to have the physical tools. However the VT offense probably not the most stat friendly one for WRs. He is considered a return specialist with potential to be much more.

Here is some info...

... Set a position record in the bench press .Pound-for-pound one of the strongest players on the team with a 390-pound bench press ..
Had a personal-best 450-pound back squat and a 39-inch vertical jump ... Also turned in the best 40 time at 4.22 ... (other reports have him around the 4.3-4.4 range)

:)html)
Considered a return specialist
PUNT RETURNS 07 so far No. 24 Yds 398 Avg 16.6 TD 2 Long 82
Kick returns for 07 so far No. 6 Yds 153 Avg. 25.5 TD 0 Long 41

I love the speed and strength combo.

Look for royal to go somewhere in the late 3rd,4th, or early 5th. His potential to put up outstanding combine numbers may bump him up a bit.

B.J. Raji (Sr.), DT Boston College

"At 6-foot-1, 325-pounds, Raji is a big, physical interior lineman who commands a lot of attention. A good athlete who has a solid burst off the line, he plays with leverage, and bull rushes opponents up the field. Raji also has a quick first step and immediately penetrates upfield and makes plays in the backfield. With his great strength, he brings down the opposition with his initial push, gets off blocks very well and can handle double-teams"
http://profootballexperts.scout.com/2/689340.html

He is considered a premier run stuffer. His bench numbers are around 390 but I can't find anything that backs that number up for sure.
The kid red shirted this year so he could hit the books (aka, academically ineligible)'
The good news is that he'll hit the draft well rested and injury free, as long as he declares. However he maybe out of condition initially but seems to have great promise.

He will be a tremendous value in the 3rd or 4th rounds. This guy is definitely worth a look if we miss out on Sedrick Ellis in the first. I would love to see him in a bucs uni.

I wouldn't like this pick......

not enough speed for the Tampa Two......

True, but again this is a DT we are talking about, I think strength , power and the ability to penetrate despite being blocked is what you're looking for out of the position. His 18.5 tackles for a loss show he can both beat and/or overpower interior o-lineman. Isn't that what you want in the middle of your d-line?

yea i'm a VT fan so I watch royal in action quite a bit and I think he would be a great pick for the bucs. like if desean jackson was off the board when we pick in the first. then we go with a DT or BPA and then get royal in rd 3 or 4. I like that idea but would still love to have jackson :)

he seems to be set for the 5th, but we would be picking too late to grab him...4 sounds good.

Houston RB Alridge ran for 157 and 2 tds today on only 11 carries...td runs of 57 and 35 ...
...and he has been doing it all year. He is over 1,500 yds rushing already with 14 tds and almost 500 yds recieving with another 5 or 6 tds there. He also threw for one...
...I really really really want this guy in the middle rounds..oh and his friend on the same team too!

WR Donnie Avery ... 6 rec for 146 and a td. He has been doing it all year as well. 81 rec 1200- 7 tds
