I've played every version so far, so it's a safe bet that I'll pick it up eventually. I'm going to have to go with the PC version, since I don't have a 360 or PS3. Besides, the mod community will undoubtedly be supporting the PC version and custom multiplayer maps with increase the game's replayability value ten-fold.

The map your talking about there is actually a map for Counter-Strike. It was originally a CS map and so they must have grabbed the idea and made the map for COD.

Note: Map in CS was called de_rats.

Love this game. Blows Halo out of the water. You dont realize how bad Halo sucks, till you play a true FPS game. To the person talking about Metal Gear for ps3, I dont see that game being very good. Just looks bad and now they tried to add a online mode.

I just bought this game over break (PS3) and it is sweet, particulary the on-line play -- I haven't unlocked any other modes yet other than team death match.

Some of the on-line maps are insane -- especially the ones where you are in the buildings (I don't know all the names yet). It is one constant close range fire-fight.

When I first started playing I had over 120 more deaths than kills. In time and you start learning, it will get better. Im way away from that many deaths now.

I usually setup with the M16 set with red dot, the desert eagle, and the 3 frags perk, extra bullet damage, and the deeper penetration perk.

I also use a R700 setup with claymores, iron lungs, and uav jammer so i can sit back and feel at least somewhat safe.

I do pick my custom class based on the map (board), but if you get into close-contact, always go with a shotty. Messy, but effective.

On the 360, there is prestige mode in multiplayer.

What it is when you reach level 55 you get the chance to start all over. You get a new medal next to your name and you have to complete all the challenges and levels again.

there are 10 levels of prestige, 55 levels a piece. It's a way to get some longevity out of the game.

The only bad part of prestige is you start fresh. no weapons perks, etc. you gotta obtain them all over again.

Been debating it myself once i get there. Once you have all the guns and perks it makes it more enjoyable but then there is the notion of being able to do it all over again and again and again 10 times. I plan on playing this game for a long time since no other multiplayer comes out anytime soon im interested in. I will probably do it when the time comes.

Had my best and worst game to date late last night.

On the "bog" board, I had 14 kills and 2 deaths.

On the board with all the satellites, I had 1 kill and 21 deaths :o .... it was insane, of the 12 guys playing, I was a level 6 and all the others were above 40. I don't think my teammates were all too happy with me!

On the PC version, most servers max out at 32 players. I find it really crowded (funny you asked this very thing), so I tend to join servers that max out at 16-18 players.

Before I tell you my thoughts, I think it is best that I clarify my "gamer" status - so you know my reference point. Usually I only play the sports games on-line (Madden, NCAA, etc), I play them quite frequently. COD4 is the first first-person shooter I have ever played either on-line or off-line.


The gameplay is exceptionally smooth. Only during the very busiest times (weekend nights) have I ever seen even small "hiccups" but they really haven't taken anything away from the on-line experience -- it is nothing like when you play Madden and the processing gets really really slow and you have to hit juke moves 1/2 second before you should because of the delay.

The only "lag" I have noticed is when people are using the microphones, which I usually do. Obviously I've never put a stopwatch on it, but you can here your own echo. So if I say "Check behind the building", about when I am done actually saying the phrase, I then hear it begin through my headphones. But again, this is only with the sound, player movement has no lag whatsoever. Your player moves nearly identically to what he does offline.

The only other thing is that it there can develop quite a bit of static on the microphones if about 10 players are using them. If only 4 or so players have headphones, the line is clear. The more players, the more static.

So far I have absolutely loved it even though I still suck at it. There are some awesome people out there who make it really challenging.

The game does a really nice job of "balancing" teams based on player ranks so most of the fights are generally equal and fun.

An RPD , light machine gun , is just as effective as taking down a Helicopter as an RPG. I don't know what the exact amout of points is that you get for shooting one down is but there is a Challenge for shooting them down. It also takes more than 1 RPG to take one down.

There's going to be a patch coming soon for COD4 for both the PS3 and the 360.

- Be able to Mute Players
- Kill Cam will aplly to Airstrikes & Claymores
- Will host gets booted or leaves the host connection is tranferred and the game will not end.

Another question guys. I finally had some decent kill streaks going and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do the airstrike. I keep calling it on my own position! :rotf:


When you press the d-pad it brings up the second "mini-map" but I don't know how to use that map to show the planes where to bomb.

You get an Airstrike for 5 Consecutive kills.
What you want to do first before you call your Airstrike is ask anyone If they have a UAV because you have an Airstrike. Teammates get a UAV after getting 3 consecutive kills which is pretty easy to do, and 9 times out of ten someone will have one.
Then when that person hits the UAV, push to the right on the D-Pad and all the enemies will show up as Orange dots. Put the crosshair over the area with the most dots. I look for enemies ( Orange Dots ) that are on Main Roadways get me the best results. Act Quickly, because the enemy will know you are about to go all Hiroshima on them. UAV scans only last for 30 Seconds.
If you call the Airstrike right you'll easily get 2 more straight kills that will enable you to call in the Helicopter Strike. For the Helicopter Strike all you have to do is press right on the D-pad and the Chopper will seek out the meat on its own like a drug sniffing dog. That's where the real fun starts.
Keep in mind that if you die before you call your 5 kill Airstrike you still have the ability to call the Airstrike when you respawn, but you more than likely won't get 7 straight kills for the Helicopter.
I find that some maps are easier to get Airstrikes on than others.

Use the Left Analog stick after pressing right on the D-PAd and when you find your target hit the " A" ( Green Button ).
Also as a Heads up , be aware of your own location you can accidently call an airstrike on yourself. :grinyes:

I finally unlocked the challenge where you have to fall 30 feet to your death...the very next board was the missile board and as the game started I made a dead sprint for one of the open missile bays and took a swan dive.


I am finally getting better, the last six games I have played I have had many more kills than deaths, probably about 80 to 40. My kill to death ratio was 0.21, it is now over .6. I had a kill streak of 11!

This game is AMAZING. After cod3 was a complete disappointment I didn't even bother with it until a friend rented it. Lets just say the day he returned it to blockbuster i went out and bought it. The customization that you can do to your online account is was makes this game so great. The graphics are also up there with Gears of War as the best I've ever seen.

Buccs 99 is right, it's either use the perk or miss with 99% of your bullets cause shooting from the hip makes absolutely no sense. So no need to mess up your screen with a spitball. I got the PS3 Version of COD4 for my Birthday. PS3 version is alot better than the 360 version , which I also own. The graphics are waaaay more detailed as far as smoke and other fine graphical details. The controls are alot more comftable. The 360 headset communication still has the PS3 communcation beat.

I'm getting a little frustrated with this game. I really wish they had different games for different levels. It seems like 75% of the people on-line now have already flipped the rankings ("prestige mode") and they play a ton.

That makes it kind of annoying for someone like me who doesn't play as often and kind of sucks at the game.


I like in Madden how they have different rooms for different levels of skill.

They need to do something similar for C.O.D. I can't believe that I'm the only "noob" that feels like this. How fun can it be for some of these serious gamers to play in rooms where they get 45 kills and 2 deaths? I would think they would want to test their skills against better competition?

I certainly don't think I insuinuated in my post that I was painting every good gamer in that light as I know there are many who would probably relish the challenge that I discussed -- when playing Madden, a game I play a lot more than C.O.D., I am good so I look for other good players to play against.


I don't understand why C.O.D. wouldn't want to implement something like this for their gamers of different levels. If I were a company trying to maximize gamer enjoyment (thus maximizing my profits) I would create the opportunity for this to happen.

Seriously though, you can only get better by playing the better players. Madden is a 1 on 1 game. It makes sense to match up good vs. good and bad vs. bad.

CoD4 is a team game. It doesn't seem like a team game a lot but it is. That's why you have higher level players mixed in with lower level players. For a little while, I would just follow the higher ranked players and sweep up the mess they left in their wake until I got the hang of things.

Also, there's plenty of prestige players that aren't that great. They just play a lot. So don't be intimidated by them.

I just duck into buildings during airstrikes.

I'm playing on 360, I'm usually the guy running around with no idea what is happening. I still have fun. Sometimes I finish well, others not so much. I got kicked out of a team game this morning following my 0 kills 10 deaths performance. I did capture the flag 5 times though, so I felt I was doing my part. :grinyes:

Only time that I get dropped is when the host quits the game. Last night I had 2 draws..... :rolleyes:

There's a patch coming out soon that fixes a bunch of problems including the "Host Draw" option. It'll just transfer the Hosting to the next highest bandwidth person.

The patch also fixes the sucky ACOG.

lol yeah that happens to me, I see in the kill cam they probably shoot me once around the body and then their scope is around my legs and feet the entire time. Wish I could kill people like that. To get the golden weapons you got to complete the challenges for that specific gun you want the golden weapon to be. I read though that it doesn't make them any stronger

I didn't do Prestige, I stayed at 55. I'm not going to lose the weapons and attachments that I worked at achieving to get to go back to nothing again and get a shiny new emblem over and over again. Killing is my business and business is good.

From my understanding, the CoD4 Servers have been having problems due to the influx of new players. They're working on fixing it and so the servers will be periodically up and down. Hopefully the patch that's coming up will fix most of the problems.

The golden shotgun is probably the easiest golden weapon to get, besides the Desert Eagle, of course. All you have to do is complete all your Shotgun Challenges, and considering there are only two shotguns to use in the game, it shouldn't be that hard. It's the headshots that'll pose a problem. But if you're patient enough, take a headshot whenever you can.:D

By the way, going over (I presume you are referring to Prestige Mode) doesn't give you better anything. It's just a new medal. You start over again. It doesn't erase any of you stats (kills, deaths, wins, losses, accuracy, etc.), but it does reset everything to basically make you a "rookie" again (weapons and challenges). I've recently gone into Prestige Mode, but I like having something to play for.

I heard today that Infinity Ward is adding a patch that will "upgrade" the COD4? I haven't heard precisely what it is, but hopefully it's new maps, add-ons or way to make the game a little more realistic- which I'm all for, because if I'm shooting someone in the FACE with a sub MG, as that person is walking toward me, and DOES NOT have Juggernaut on, and STABS me ONCE, and kills me.... I think I'm going to kill someone.... Pardon the pun! :mad:

The "update" is simply a sever-side update that will hopefully fix all the busted matchmaking.

It is NOT a client-side update where you have to download something and get new maps and etc.

Probably the P90 maybe? that thing shoot really fast and on top of that has a standard 100 bullet clip. I know I kill people easily with it and ALOT of people complain because its so easy to get kills with it but they are just haters. I havent played in a while with you D we need to get on it soon

Never even heard of Oldcore. and as for team objective, is that a mix of like search and destroy, sabotage, etc, so they removed it, and just game em all there own playlist? Hope the new map is cool

I can't remeber for the life of me what clan was on last night, but damn, they knew where to be and what to do. First time in a while, that I wasn't able to call in an airstrike or helicopter. Hell, I think I might have called in one UAV....

A lot of people don't like to do it. I am probably going to just go through one or 2 more levels in prestige and then just focus on beating the challenges

I do Prestige because I get bored easily and I like the challenge of leveling up.

I just wish they gave you the Overkill perk earlier.

If I woulda thought about it earlier, I wouldn't of tried to get alot of the challenges, then I would probably do prestige, but I just got 150 headshots with m-16, I have all the camos for that... and I got the gold desert eagle. I got all the kills, but not headshot, challenges for about all the assault rifles..except like 2. then a few smg and lmg kill challenges.

You can use it until you die but I am like you and use it early.

Actually on PS3 I know you can still use it after you die -- I have done that many times. As soon as you respawn you can still call it. I never knew that until recently when I heard someone over the headset say it.

I go through spurts with this game. For a week or 10 days, I will play it non-stop. Then I'll put it down for four weeks thinking I'm done with it. Then in a moment of weakness I'll play the game again -- and 10 days later (and 20 hours of game play later), I'll turn it off for another few weeks.

It is amazing though when you see how many hours some of these people have logged playing the game -- there are people I have seen who have over 14 days of actual play time (that is something like 350 hours!)

I played a domination game yesterday. Me and five random guys played against a team of six guys, all in the same clan, all who had flipped the board at least twice. They had incredible teamwork and were all using blue-tooths (or some audio device). They won 200 - 48, it was the worst defeat I've ever seen.

It just goes to show what strategy can do.





All too often now in domination, no one really plays the game the right way. It seems like in about 50% of the games, one team will just camp around a flag and defend it trying to get good kill/death ratios while losing the game 200 - 100, because they essentially forfeited the other two flags. I always think it is funny how after those games when everyone is looking at the scoreboard guys on the losing team will say "man look at my ratio 28 - 15, and they will have 40 points!"

no clue... guess the xbox did it... I was playing cod4, I finished 1 game, then it froze, so I opened the disc tray, and closed it again, kept getting read error, so I looked at the disc, and it had like 3 scratched from the center going outwards, which can all be seen from the top of the disc.

I can't stand the colored screen names, if you don't see what team they are on at the beginning of the game (that is, they join the game mid-progress) it is nearly impossible to tell what team they are on quickly. And how annoying are those darn special symbols in clan names -- they take up 1/2 the freaking screen!

that is awesome.

the rifles take long because there are so many of them. i wish it was the g-36 that had the golden skin -- that is my favorite rifle.

i'm working on getting the golden uzi next.

I watch the kill cams and the players cross hair is either way behind me or way in front when he starts shooting and all of his bullets are somehow hitting me as I am running. Quite amazing really. Snipers are something else to. I had one shoot the ground and never hit me yet I magically died. Ugh I am tired of this but I still keep playing.....

I've been wondering the same thing for days now..Might be the reason why some accuracies are up to 25 % for some players..Just doesn't look like they're hitting you but someway, somehow they do...I think the lag bothers me the most though.. particularly on that map with all the tanks and buses in the middle.....

Not only when snipers are shooting at you but when you are sniping to. I get so ****ed off when there is a guy standing still and my cross hairs on his head and I shoot and it doesn't hit him

One thing that burns my balls, is when someone shoots you with a sniper gun or ACOG scope, and is only 5 yards away. Realistically, you wouldn't have a shot in hell if you shot someone from that range. Oh, but the icing on the cake, is when someone shoots you from the same distance using a grenade launcher!!! I felt like throwing my controller through the TV the other night when a punk *** shot me 3 times in a row with that bull**** move... :mad:

Don't get me started on the grenade launchers. There was this game with 3 guys in the same clan and all of them thought it would be so funny to use grenade launchers. You hear them before the game starts to pull out the launchers and sure enough all 3 of them just blowing everybody up. I started yelling and had to leave the game. I have severe game rage if there is such a thing lol
