"Bill Parcells shakes up the 2008 NFL Draft in a trade with his old friend Jerry Jones. Of course this trade is only a fantasy that I have laid out in the 2 January 2008 update to my 2008 NFL Mock Draft.

The trade does make a lot of sense to both teams though and Jerry Jones is known as a wheeler and dealer in the NFL Draft. The Dolphins desperately need more quality players and the Cowboys will be thin at running back after Julius Jones leaves via free agency. Jones has not been impressive and Marion Barber is more of a power back with marginal speed. So the question is what will it take to get the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft? Probably both first rounders and a 3rd either this year or next and maybe even a 4th or 5th draft pick thrown in somewhere to boot. I doubt Jerry Jones will want to give up any players, but if he did, a player like Special teams standout Keith Davis might be good trade bait."

im assuming that the cowboys would then take Darren McFadden 1st overall in this scenario. it sounds like something that could potentially go down, but it will likely not happen til right before the draft... if at all... i wonder what it would cost the bucs to trade to #1

Its not like its impossible, we held him to under 40 yards on 20 carries.

Just have to have sure tackling DB's and LB's with front 4 pressure.

They don't need McFadden though. Marion Barber III can handle the bulk of the carries, and they just need a servicable back to split some time with him. Someone who doesn't mind taking on the role Julius Jones played this season.

There's next to no chance of this. The Cowboys would probably have to give up their entire draft to move up to #1 without giving up a major player. Keith Davis wouldn't be enough to get a trade done...they'd need a starter.

I really don't think the Cowboys will be able to put together a package that would be worth the first overall pick. Certainly I remain unconvinced that two low firsts and a third would be enough.

And it's a bit silly as well since, as Clayton80future points out, they really don't need him. Frankly, if I were a Cowboys fan and really wanted to see the team draft a top-notch complement for Barber, I'd probably be spending more time hoping that Jones comes out than I would worrying about trade-up scenarios.

I believe a nice speed back would be a very nice complement to Barber, someone who could be drafted in the mid rounds. Justin Forsett and Dantrell Savage come to mind.

Felix Jones would be an awesome addition, but he could become a first round pick if he comes out, and I'm sure the Cowboys could address their needs somewhere else with both first round selections. I think Jones will make the best decision he can though and stay another year with McFadden probably going.

Oh, I'm not saying they *should* go with him, just that it would make a whole lot more sense than them trying to trade up to get McFadden. Either would be a luxury, but I'd have a much easier time swallowing a "they're a good enough team they can afford a luxury pick" argument with Jones. Or someone like him in the first or second round.

Something else that is overlooked is that the Cowboys have quite a few holes that would be ignored by sacrificing that many picks. TO and Glenn are getting up there, and there are a trio of WRs that should be available in the early 20s (Kelly, Jackson, and Sweed). They could certainly use some defensive line help. They also need to target a CB. Henry and Newman are solid players, but both have battled some injuries and they could use some added depth at the position.

Does anyone really think that Jerry Jones is going to ignore all of these needs for a running back when he already has a 24 year old Pro Bowler at the position?

This wild speculation of the Cowboys getting McFadden started over a year ago when the Browns traded their 2008 first rounder to the Cowboys. However, the possibility really died as soon as the Browns started winning games.

So a reverse walker trade? Wasn't Jones there when they did the Walker trade to put the vikings in the toilet for a while at the same time rebuild themselves with all those extra players? Why do it when you already have a really good back in Barber III? On top of that they need younger recievers and secondary help.

I think he is a 1st rounder if he comes out, forget "becoming". I don't really think he'd have to work at it, just put up the numbers people expect out of him. I don't really buy into the whole "Felix should go back and carry the ball 250 times" theory. I think he should come out now, forget about the few mil he'd be missing out on (and inherent risks of another season watching your stock), and play for a GOOD NFL team like Seattle instead of a terrible college team like Arkansas will be.

I agree...I think Felix should come out. At a position like running back, you need to get to the NFL as soon as possible. It is by far the most dangerous position on offense or defense. The more carries he takes, the more likely he is to blowout his knee and never make it to the NFL.

Agreed.

With 2 picks in the 20's, I think they just sit on their picks. They'll probably go after a speed back later on in the draft to compliment Barber and address their other needs with their first rounders.
