View Full Version : Here it is
Best case scenario for the Bucs.
1. Keith Rivers, OLB, Southern Cal-Brooks is way past his years and this is his heir apparent.
2. Joe Falco, QB, Delaware- Jeff Garcia is way past his years and this is his heir apparent.
3. Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose State- Ronde Barber is past his year and this is his heir apparent
4. Kevin Robinson, WR, Utah State - Michael Clayton sucks so this is his heir apparent
5. Carlton Powell, DT, Va Tech - Huge upside IMO. Give him a shot to fight it out with Hovan.
Give me your thougths. Where am I going wrong here.

Rivers can't play the run, in this system, the linebackers have to be able to stop the run. His hands suck also, our wlb has to be able to cover. he also goes for the big hit, we need a consistant wrap up tackler, hell with the big hit, they lead to missed tackles.
Flacco played agaisnt weak competition in a college offense. Not agile enough to scramble around behind the line in the WCO. A slightly bigger Simms clone IMO.
Lowery I agree with, will he be there in the 3rd?
Robinson never really stood out in the college ranks, I think he may get buried in the pros and never heard from again. Good physical tools, but does he have the heart to step up when it counts?
Powell. Again, never really stepped up in college. Decent worker, but not a very good motor with limited moves. I don't think he fits the system, doesn't matter though, we don't have a 5th rounder anyway.

Our need on D is mainly the pass rush, this is what needs to be addressed. If Rivers is there he might be a great value, but our need is a pass rusher. June is taking over Brooks when Brooks leaves, it doesn't take a monster to play the Sam for us.
Falco? Is this Shane's little bro? Not a great fit for us, yes he has great tools, but average feet. I doubt Gruden wants to teach a young QB the basics, (drop backs, terminology, footwork, etc) for the next 3-4 years.
Lowery I like, could probably had closer to round 5 though.
Kevin Robinson? Poor physical toolsl, good intangibles, guys like these can be had much later as well if not as undrafted FA's... This guy isn't much different than Paris Warren. Decent size, not very good speed, can do a lot of things, most not well.
Powell.... He's just a guy, which is pretty much what you get in the 5th round, but he doesn't really stand out in anyway, not great strength, not exceptionally quick, I'd rather go small school route here and take somebody with great ability and production against lesser competition, this is the round Gruden usually goes for those guys (Brackins, Peterson).

Rivers is not needed, as we're set at LB.
Joe Flacco is probably not going to be at selection fifty-two, but if he is, I would be all for it.
Dwight Lowery stricks me as a player that would be best suited for a team that plays more man than zone, so no to him.
If Kevin Robinson is a lot like Paris Warren (which I'm just going by JW32's analysis, because I wouldn't know the difference), then I wouldn't like to spend a fourth round selection a player we basically have (and one I've been rooting for the past four seasons for that matter).

Actually, Lowery is a helluva ballhawk that just happens to not run well... He has pretty good size but ran in the 4.55-4.60 range at the combine... He will most likely HAVE to play in the cover 2 in the NFL as he just doesn't have the long speed to play a lot of man.

In that case, I like him more. Timed speed is just a luxury, nothing more. A ballhawk would be a very welcome addition.

This is just a guess, but I would think he was among the most productive CBs in college the past 2-3 seasons.

Yeah, he ran 4.59 and had 13 picks the past 2 years.

First off, we don't need an LB in the first right now. In fact, I think we're overloaded at LB. I wouldn't mind resigning Trotter to cover the SLB while Black keeps learning after Brooks retires, but we don't really need more than that. I would prefer a top end receiver who's been consistent and productive against top competition throughout his college career.
Second round, Flacco doesn't really fit our system. If we're going QB in the second (and right now the track record is against QBs in the second), I'd rather have Josh Johnson who would be motivated and knows how a WCO works.
Third round, I've got no real comment. Lowery I hear isn't a bad player, but there may be other options and we will have to see who else is available.
Fourth Round, I would rather have Harry Douglas if he's available. He's an extremely explosive WR and has KR and PR abilities. He also played in a pro style offense at Louisville and would be able to make a transition more quickly.
Fifth round, that's not a bad choice. We can never have enough line depth.

Antoine Cash is back and Nece is healthy so there is no need to sign bad-kneed Trotter, pass rush is mandatory, however, in the first round or two.
Johnson is a tad of a reach here in round 2, JJ in round 3 at the earliest.
Lowery could probably be had later, he was productive but has many question marks, speed, level of competition, is he a C-2 CB or a S?
I don't like Douglas or Robinson. Douglas is reed thin and did not stand out at all when compared to the rest of the WRs at the Senior Bowl.

Where do I start? First Keith Rivers is a MLB and probably the best LB in this years class. No way he will be on the board at #20. No way he fits the Bucs with Ruud already a standout at MLB.
Joe Flacco is the fast riser of this year QB crop but his poor footwork will be a problem in the NFL. Plus that and he is not your A-typical type WCO QB.
Your next 3 choices are far to high for the round you have them going in.

Rivers can play all 3 LB positions and there is always the chance he will be there. Besides that, I don't recall Ruud being an all-pro or even making the pro bowl, he played pretty well but he is far from being a standout at this point.
