If we get Allen, we need to make sure we get a DT in the 2nd then.

I know DT is a need, but outside of Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis, I haven't seen any of the others play exstensively. I don't stress DT in any of my mocks because Albert Haynesworth will be back on the market next year. I'm not big on Chris Hovan, and Jovan Haye is average at best, but with Jared Allen as a full time starter at end, Marques Douglas and Kevin Carter would see spot duty in the DT rotation. Alot of the members on this board don't realize the impact that Douglas can have on the line rotation. He was a 16 game starter last year, and I don't see how he wouldn't be one here. At his age, he might show signs of slowing down, but in a rotation, he'd be kept fresh, and provide the depth that is needed to fulfill the void of not drafting a DT early in the draft. Skill positions, both WR and RB, and maybe a CB, are more of an impact in regards to the teams immediate future.

Jovan Haye is very athletic and was playing this past season as his first ever as a full-time DT. He had never even played DT before 2006. He is improving and was VERY productive last season and should only get better and better.

i really dunno how much i would like giving up on haye after just 1 year (not to mention letting go of another first round pick) and bringing in a guy like allen, who plays well, but as has been pointed out in other threads, is 1 off field issue away from a league imposed suspension... id much rather keep the trio of adams, white & haye together for as long as possible & use the first rounder on a WR or something that will strengthen a weaker unit

i guess ive just always favored offense to defense... maybe its due to the bucs always having a strong D, so im always looking for ways to better the O... if it were up to me, we would trade the first rounder for a veteran WR (chad johnson, andre johnson, anquan boldin, & roy williams would all be acceptable people to look into), & after that we could do pretty much anything we wanted in rounds 2-5, but WR is by far the biggest need on this team right now in my opinion

i agree.....but this years wr draft class isnt special....its even a safer pick to go with allen than getting a guy like desean jackson who is small or devin thomas who is a one year wonder.

my personal favorite rookie WR at this point is limas sweed, i think he will be a definite future pro bowler... a very similar guy to the ones id trade for

What are the chances Sweed becomes a buc next Saturday? All I know is Tampa brought this guy in for workouts.

i honestly have no clue how good of a chance we have at him... i can see him going anywhere from the bears @ 14 down to the titans @ 24, but if we somehow do end up with him, i think he can be an impact WR from day 1

Him or Devin Thomas would contribute immediately!

im just not sold on devin thomas, sure he played great this year, but he barely did anything before then... classic boom or bust pick

Watching Thomas on film reminds me of TO when he played for San Francisco.

he could very well turn into a great WR, but i just feel we need a more sure bet to succeed at the position after what we went thru with michael clayton the last few years

I wouldn't gamble on Devin Thomas. Honestly, all year i've been throwing his name out there as a 2nd round selection. But seeing how his stock has risen, I just don't see the worth in selecting a project WR in a complicated West Coast offense like Gruden's.
Jovan Haye produced well last year, but he's average at best. He's a little undersized for my taste, and i'de much rather have him as a rotational player vs an every down player. Like I said before, Marques Douglas will shine on this defense. Packaging him with some draft picks for a sure fire DE to combine with Gaines is more enticing to me than an average DT.

Then you're rooting for the wrong team. Our offense is plenty offensive, but not in a good way and that's the way it has always been since 1976.

UTs are ALWAYS undersized. The guy has plenty of quickness and that's what UTs need, not size. Consider the fact that he had been a DE his entire career until last season and you have to consider the fact that he will improve greatly once he learns more moves and plays with better leverage. He had a ton of tackles and his motor is very good, he just needs to learn to use his hands and be able to vary his rush to really improve his performance.
