Assuming LDT and AD are off the board 1-2 (or 2-1, whatever), who do you like at the #3 spot?

I've got that spot in my "big money" league, and I'm debating between:

A) Tom Brady - More valuable in my league because of the QB friendly scoring and the fact that 7 of the top 10 quarterbacks are franchised already. The downside is, I'd have to *hope* to hit an a back in the third round that's worth starting, and not draft my first receiver until the fourth round.

B) Brian Westbrook - More valuable in my league because of the point-per-reception scoring. In fact, second highest scoring back last year. I just don't trust his injury history.

C) Steven Jackson - Could easily be the highest scoring back in the NFC if the Rams offense is healthy. The downside is, the Rams offense might be awful again, including the line. If he can't do what he did in 2006, simply not worth this pick.

Thoughts?

Joseph Addai over SJax or BWest

EDIT: Brady will not duplicate last year

I've heard that suggested, and there's upside there, but it's a HUGE risk. He hasn't exactly earned it yet.

As for Tom Brady, 75% of last year would be enough. Say, 3600 yards, 40 TDs? He still has Moss and Welker to throw to, I think that's doable.

I'm in the 4 spot and I'm happy with whomever drops to me. I'm taking S. Jackson over Addai just because D. Rhodes returning makes me think that they may try to "save" Addai for the playoffs. And QB's only get 3 points for passing TD's so that takes QB out of the equation. PPR also.... B. Westbrook should go in the 3 spot, if he doesn't than the 4 spot is a happy man.

I wouldn't say a HUGE risk....No more than Jax or West.

You're right, but I can/could never bring myself to go QB with the #3 overall. Too many top tier QBs on the board.

Go with Westbrook

Westbrook, Addai, Jackson...in that order if it's a ppr league. I've drafted Westbrook the past 3 years, and he never fails to produce, even if he might be injured a few weeks out of the season...It's a risk I'm willing to take.

The thing is, not in my league. With our franchise rules, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Derrick Anderson, Matt Hasselbeck, Jay Cutler, and several others are already locked up. The only starter quality guys available are Brady, Manning, Palmer, McNabb, and Phillip Rivers. I also have the franchise rights to David Garrard, but I'm not sure if he's worth giving the starting job to.

I would think you could get Palmer later? My guess is his value is dropping? At least I hope so.

Personally I like Jackson. Though if you went westbrook I couldn't argue.

If you take enough risks there is always value later on. People were laughing at me last year when I took Peterson in the 2nd/3rd round in every draft. Then grabbed Lynch in like the 6th or 7th round or something. Partly because I called some of their picks dumb mid draft. :D 3 games in I was sitting pretty and they were about where I called them to be.

Been a while since I've pulled off some of the drafting like I did last year now that I look at it. One of my teams was so stacked.

I don't know how high I am on Palmer, to be honest. I like him enough, but I think he's a notch below the elite guys right now (Who I define as Brady, Manning, Romo, and Brees). He's probably in that next tier. I don't want to take him in the 2nd and I doubt he'd be there in the third.

I'm bumping this thread to say, I've narrowed it down to Brady or Jackson.

With the QBs who are franchised in my league, Brady is SO far beyond the next available QB I could get (assuming Manning is gone before my 2nd pick) that it would be a violent drop-off to the next guy. It would be someone like Phillip Rivers. Plus, it would basically mean I don't need to draft a backup quarterback until the end of the draft, and then just for his bye week.

With Steve Jackson, I'm getting the one guy in the NFL who can go toe to toe in rushing, receiving, and TDs with LT. And he's playing for a new contract. If he and his line are healthy, he could be the best fantasy back in football.

Out of those two, who would you take?

Hmmm... I would be extremely leary about Jackson at # 3. Looking at his numbers a year ago he put up only 2 100 + yard games, though he did have 4 in the 90's... all four of those were late in the season... which might not help you. He also scored only 5 TD's rushing and 1 receiving. I'm sure you know the numbers, but when you consider his team, as you have, to me he's a very risky pick at # 3.

Brady probably won't match last year but again, he could. The Pats will be out to prove some things. They won't be like your typical Super Bowl losing team. They are ticked they finished 18-1 and losing Stallworth won't hurt them too much at all.

If you go QB (Brady) at 3 you could always stock pile some backs who may not be quote/unquote stars (see LT/Jax etc) but you could maybe get 4 guys who could all put up solid numbers every week. Look at Fargas/McFadden in Oakland. Neither will get the 25 + carries a week, but Fargas runs like a machine. He had 4 100 yard games last year, though he did only score 4 TD's. McFadden could really open things up out there. Their run blocking showed last year they were much improved under Cable and a Fargas/McF combo could net 150-200 and 2 TD's a week... I know they plan on using McFadden in a lot of ways... RB... WR... even throwing... so he could probably be had in the second or maybe third and be a guy that could produce quite a bit. I think his draft stock may drop a bit because he's on the Raiders... but don't let that scare you.

Jackson also missed some games last year... something Brady didn't do... for me, the pick at 3 would have to be Brady, especially if your league is kind to QB's...

Fargas missed time too... but that's where the combo of him and McF could really help you. Also, don't forget about Bush out there... maybe an 11th round or later... in case Fargas went down again...

Just some things to think about...
