E3 '08: Final Fantasy XIII 360-bound, Last Remnant dated
Square Enix's formerly PS3-only RPG epic will launch day and date on Microsoft's console in North American and Europe; timed 360 exclusive hitting US Sept. 2, EU Sept. 5.

LOS ANGELES--At the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Microsoft presented what it thought was a major announcement from a top Japanese developer, Square Enix. Unfortunately, the "news" proved a tad anticlimactic, since the game in question was Final Fantasy XI, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game previously released on the PC in 2003 and the PlayStation 2 in 2004. Despite a sizeable PR push, the 360 edition of the game was lukewarmly received by critics and consumers, who barely bought 213,000 copies of it in the US.
Over the next three years later, Microsoft would announce several more Square Enix games for the Xbox 360, including the exclusive Star Ocean: The Last Hope and the timed Exclusive The Last Remnant. However, in many gamers minds' these projects were dwarfed in importance by the stature of two other Square Enix titles: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Versus, both PlayStation 3 exclusives...
...until today.
This morning at its press briefing at the E3 Media & Business Summit, Microsoft stunned many in the audience by announcing Final Fantasy XIII is now in development for the Xbox 360. Not only is the game coming to the console, it will arrive on the same day and date as the PlayStation 3 edition of the game, which no timed exclusivity of any kind. When exactly that is remains a mystery, however, as the graphics-intensive role-playing game still has no firm release date.
PS3 loyalists frustrated by today's announcement can take some comfort in the fact it did not include the action-oriented Final Fantasy XIII Versus, which remains a PS3 exclusive. Check back throughout the week for previews and impressions of Square Enix's game lineup from E3 2008.

This isn't going to be very good for Sony

It's not good for Sony's future sales of the PS3, since many fans of the exclusives Sony have lost can simply purchase the cheaper 360 in order to play them (if they don't already have one), but I doubt the Sony fanboys will really care about this. Sony losing the exclusives just means 360 gamers share the goods. If companies were moving their games exclusively to the 360, then I'd expect some uproar.
Funnily enough, one of my friends ha a 360 and bought a PS3 when it launched. I asked him why he did and he said that he wanted to play the awesome games coming out for the PS3 "like GTA, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy." And, look what happens. :D All three come out for the 360, too. The last time I was over at his place his PS3 was unplugged and collecting dust. He admitted he hasn't played it in months because all the games he's interested in now are cross-platform and he likes the 360 controller better.

When does Metal Gear Solid 4 come out for the 360?

When does Metal Gear Solid 4 come out for the 360?
Blah. I got mixed up. There was a third big name exlcusive Sony had that was making a trip to the 360, too. For some reason I thought it was MGS.
Edit: I was thinking of Assassin's Creed. No idea how I got that and MGS mixed up...

And Bioshock came over to PS3? Console wars were two years ago. Losing one game isn't going to 'destroy' the PS3. Resistance 2 is still coming out. Killzone 2 is still coming out as well as various multi-platform games like Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Mercenaries 2, Prince of Persia, C&C 3, Resident Evil 5, the list is endless.
Furthermore, the gap between porting 360 games to PS3 games has gotten closer and closer now to the point where there is just color differences between the two games. (Tweak your settings if you think the PS3 is too "dull").
The PS3 also finally got **** right with the whole in-game XMB thing. It's hardly "bye bye PS3."
So, in summary...

Yeah, it is true that PS3 does have a big list of nice games that are scheduled to be released, and I look forward to their press conference at E3.
But the fact that FFXIII is coming to the 360 puts a dent in Sony, which was basically a step child of Sony. FFXIII's exclusivity was a big reason why so many stood by the PS3 during bad times.
I agree that saying 'goodbye PS3' is a little far fetched, but I'm very interested to see where this goes and how Sony's fall and holiday game releases will sell. I'm sure their presentation at E3 this week has to be stellar in order to convince everyone that things are going to turn out positive.

As far as "Bye Bye PS3" goes due to losing one 3rd party exclusive, I think anyone with half a brain can see what a ludicrous statement this is.
Aside from all of the awesome cross-platform games (GTA4, Devil May Cry 4, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Resident Evil 5, now Final Fantasy XIII) Sony still has excellent exclusive third party support from Insomniac (Resistance 1 and 2, Ratchet and Clank), Naughty Dog (Uncharted and an unnamed project - possibly Jak and Daxter related), Konami (Metal Gear Solid 4), and Team ICO (another unnamed project - we may find out more about it tomorrow). Then of course they have their first party games (God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5).
On the other hand nearly all of the 360's "exclusive" third party games may not come out on the PS3, but they do come out on the PC (Gears of War 1 and 2, Mass Effect, etc.) where they can be run better and still palyed with a 360 controller. Granted they still have their first party support (Halo), but I personally prefer what Sony has to offer.

I'm waiting for Socom Confrontation on PS3, but will be playing NCAA and Madden on the 360 until then.

SOCOM is the game I am really looking forward to. It doesn't really matter to me about the FFXIII since it is still coming on PS3. I want to see what Sony says at their conference tomorrow at E3. Still plenty of good exclusives coming out so I wouldn't wave bye bye just yet. Sony better have one heckuva an announcement tomorrow though to top Microsoft.

Hardly bye bye PS3 as long as it has a Blu-ray player, which is one of the reasons I sold my 360 and got a PS3 a few months later.

I will say this though. Sony better having an ace in the hole because their presentation is going to be pretty abysmal considering the whole Final Fantasy thing. I've never played the series myself but I do know it means a lot to other people who are more die-hard with their PS3 fanaticism.

Meh, as I thought the FF thing knocked the sails out of the Sony conference. While the downloadable movie things were nice finally (launching tonight for you PS3 users), the only other remotely interesting things was a small teaser for God of War 3 and another teaser for a super interesting game called MAG which is "supposedly" 256 player warfare. Just teasers though, not a lot of gameplay.

I actually enjoyed the PS3 conference, they talked a lot about the hardware side and I think give users a lot to look forward to.
But I do agree that Microsoft stole the show with that FFXIII anouncement...that was just huge. Nintendo and Sony had nothing that compares to it.

I don't like the 360 controller...and don't like the price of the PS3.
So I still have my PS2, and PC.
And Final Fantasy never interested me.

I like the price cut for the PS3 on the 80GB version for 400. Thats a pretty good deal considering I got my 60GB when it first came out for 600. I'm looking forward to Fallout 3 and Gears 2 looks very good. Nintendo just had nothing to offer. It will still sell, but they left hardcore gamers high and dry.
I'm in the minority here but while FFXIII is another exclusive Sony loses both systems are still getting it and I don't see how Microsoft completely ran away with it considering it is a game PS3 is still going to have. They did have the better of the conferences I will say that. The way I saw it: Microsoft>Sony>>>>>>Nintendo.

I'm digging this movie thing. The only problem is I have like $5.02 in my wallet and the minimum deposit is $20 but I only need like $10 more to buy Cloverfield in HD but oh well. I also have to buy Black Hawk Down which is like $9.99 so it's all good.

Microsoft's conference was pretty bad. I don't think you'll find many neutral (aka non-fanboys) opinions saying it was better than Sony's.
As for FF, 360 is getting a direct port of it AFTER it's already done for PS3. And they're already trying to figure out how to dumb it down so it will all fit on a 360 DVD.
Why would you want a game that's been dumbed down when you could have the full experience (same price, too) for PS3?
Along with the movies, price cuts, better sales, trophies, Res2, RE5, GoW3, MAG and all the sports games finally at 60fps....
HARDLY bye bye PS3.
EDIT: I have 360, PS3 & Wii... so I couldn't care less. But I have no problem saying PS3 is on the move...UP

I seriously doubt one game is going to make a difference, especially since it is still coming out for the PS3 its just not exclusive. Surely plenty of games still are, which I think that will change as well. The fans that bought a PS3 for FF will still get to play it.
The PS3 is still the best/cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market according to most critics.

I dont own a PS3, but I would never buy an X-box 360. No reason to pay to play online.
Metal Gear Solid .
I know you realized you were wrong here, but according to the makers of Metal Gear Solid, Konami, It would actually be impossible to make MSG4 for the Xbox 360 as they needed the extra space the blue ray disc provides..
...so until 360 gets blue ray technology all future metal gear solids will remain ps3 exlusive.

it's hardly a price cut and in my opinion pointless.
It's merely a 40 gb hard drive upgrade on the 40 gb. Which is really like a $5 difference considering that it's just a notebook sata drive that you can change out yourself.
It will still only have 2 usb slots and no backwards compatibility or slots for memory cards, and won't come with MGS4 which is a must have game in my opinion..

Exactly....the lack of backwards compatability makes it completely worthless to me. I don't understand Sony's reasoning for blocking out the best library any system has ever seen...this would be an easy selling point to people that didn't own a PS2.

If I wanted to play PS2 games I would just bring out my PS2. I would bet the majority of people that bought the PS3 at launch or close to it already had a PS2. Now for those who just bought it for Blu Ray or don't own a PS2 most would just rather play the newer games coming out. I have yet to meet someone who said they bought a PS3 to play PS2 games on it. Its an added bonus and it is nice but I don't think it would exactly make the PS3 worthless.

I play alot of Madden, the 60 gig PS3 was a life saver cuz I hated the PS3 version of Madden.

Exactly.. I still have my ps2 set up right next to my ps3. I also have my ps1 set up, but my ps2 and ps3 will both play ps1 games.
...the only thing that really bugs me about the 40gb(now the 80gb core) is the 2 usb slots.
edit: except at launch and close to it they had the 20gb and 60 gb which had backwards compatibility. Even the 60gb and the 80gb had it. The 40gb and now the 80gb core model are the only ones without it.

The PS3 isn't going anywhere , its not like they lost this game its still coming out on the PS3 and may come out before the 360 version since Square said that they won't start developing the 360 version until the PS3 version is complete.
