View Full Version : Losing Faith in My PS3.

I have been a loyal PS customer since the the PSone. I own all three systems, but I have to admit, I'm starting to get a little sour on the platform.
It's not the graphics or the game play. I love the fact that I have a Blu-Ray player and some of my favorite movies I've purchased for the Blu-Ray experience. I have a problem that the technology might be a little too advanced for the developers. I've heard that there all these AWESOME games that are in the pipeline for the PS3, but they keep getting bumped. "Ghostbusters" and "Resident Evil" are two games that I've been itching to play, but they have been delayed for almost a year. The release date keeps moving back and back and back. It's sad and disappointing.
The other day I was in the local GameStop and I was actually looking at the pre-owned XBox 360s. I was just curious if I was the only person who felt this way. Anyone else out there getting a little tired of the incessant delays and lack of titles for the PS3.
Like I said... the PS3 does have it's GREAT qualities, but dad-gum, I want to play some GAMES and the used game section for the 360 DWARFS the PS3's section.

I have both...360 seems to be better on multiplatform games, I only play MGS4 on the PS3 and watch movies...feel like its kind of a waste, now that 360 has Final Fantasy, I dunno PS doesn't really have any exclusive that interest me

PS3 games I have:
-Uncharted (Best Graphics hands-down)
-Resistance
-CoD4
-GTA4
-The Orange Box
-Madden 09
-Battlefield: Bad Company
They all keep more than enough of my time
Upcoming Titles:
-Fallout 3
-Resistance 2
-Killzone 2
-Mercenaries 2
-FF XVICIDIFSICIVI
-Mirror's Edge
-Far Cry 2
I mean the list is pretty extensive and they're all coming out within the next couple of months.
I have an XBOX360 but I got the RROD about 3 times and got tired of sending it in so I just started buying a bunch of PS3 games.
Not all of those are exclusive ^^^

Stick with ps3. At least you don't have to worry about that red ring of death.

only 10% (20% of the older models) of 360s get the red ring of death....some people seem to be much more unlucky than others...I know about 40 people with a 360, none of them have ever had it, I haven't...but it's not something that made me not wanna get it

I went 20 months without the red ring of death. The thing is; I didn't know this dam thing existed . So when I get my xbox back from the repair center. I am going to take steps to try to avoid it from happening ever again.

Worry about the Red Ring?
Doesn't happen that often, to be honest. I own a first shipment model, I've NEVER had a problem. I know a couple who have, and far more who never have.
My game library:
Madden 09 and all previous versions
Rock Band
Assassin's Creed
Overlord
Oblivion
Halo 3
CoD 3 and 4
Gears of War
Star Trek Legacy
Fear
Need for Speed
Ghost Recon (1 and 2)
Fable (Lost Chapters)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Guitar Hero III
Write off some of the games if you want to, but I've NEVER been bored with X-Box games and the online quality is amazing. Matches and organization are easy enough to work through.
Story lines and game play for Fear, Gears of War, and the Halo series are awesome. Assassin's Creed is, of course, by name, a trademark game worth standing on its own. Multi-player is anchored by the GH3, Rock Band, Marvel, CoD 3 and 4...whether you're playing online or with others in the same room.
Needless to say, X-Box is awesome.

PS3's don't break as often.
360's have slightly better graphics, much easier to use online(from my understanding), much "tighter" controls (if you don't know what I mean, it's hard to explain), have WAY better system exclusive games, and generally cost less.
If you ask me, Xbox 360 is the much better choice. Just remember that they will break more often than you would like.

The 360 only has better graphics on the older games because developers didn't know how to do system ports. Anyone who's played Uncharted: Drake's Fortune know that the PS3 has better graphics than the 360 from a system power standpoint and again the difference in graphics are negligible now because the developers figured out how to work with the PS3.
Online use isn't difficult at all in the PS3. Everything is pretty simple and easy.
The tighter controls I sort of agree with because the L2 and R2 buttons on the PS3 are weird on the new controllers but otherwise it's perfectly normal again.
System exclusive games are another debatable point since 90% of the games are multi-platform anyways. Yeah the X360 has Gears of War and the Halos and etc. but the PS3 has Resistance, MGS4, Pixeljunk, God of War, etc. It's a completely debatable point and I would expect that the X360 games have more games out right now because it was released a year and a half earlier.
The X360 package cost less initially but then you have to buy the rechargable batteries, the separate wireless adapter ($100), XBOX Live and it comes to being roughly close to the PS3 bundle.
Once again, I emphasize that the important point is to get which ever system your friends have because the differences are negligible at best. I play the PS3 more because more of my friends have it so its funner online and I don't need to worry about it breaking down.

I could agree more..
And to answer the OP's question the same cycle happened with the PS2 when it first came out. Once the developers understand the system more the game will continue to get better and better, just like the PS2.

bingo. 360 was obviously better the first couple yrs, but the PS3 has absolutely caught up now. The potential for the PS3 far exceeds the 360 and the Blu-Ray alone makes this system more valuable. Great point about the price being basically the same after you have to buy the online adapter, XBox live, batteries, etc.
Ive never been a huge fan of Halo and thus i never bought an XBox. At least for me this is what seperates people who like XBox more than PS. Most of my friends are 50/50 on the PS3/360 debate. At it is usually determined between those who likes Halo and those who dont care much for it. I personally dont have time to play more than 3-4 games per yr and the games i play are for both systems, so the exclusive titles dont mean all that much to me.
I would do as Kickstand suggested and go with the system more of your friends play.....BUT at least 3/4 of the people i know with a 360 have had the red ring

Have a Wii,360 and PS3. I have not been on my 360 in months. Majority of my mates have the PS3 and prefer the PS3 controller.
I grew up with Nintendo and can't stand the wii. The wife loves the wii though.

Well the 360 was out a full year before the PS3, so one would hope it would have more games out. As far as the technology, sure it's new for developers and so therfore there is a learning curve. Most PS3 games are ports of 360 games, which affect the quality of the PS3 version. This is starting to change. Within 2 years most games will be developed for the PS3 then ported to the 360. In fact EA is starting to do this now and FF XIII is being developed for the PS3 first then the 360. This should help in the quality of PS3 games. The scary part is the 360 games are maxed out already since they use the old DVD-9 technology. Even the most advanced PS3 games only use 30%-40% of what the PS3 can actually do. So within 18-24 months you should see a significant difference between a PS3 game and a 360 game.
Don't be surprised that sometime in 2011 you see the XBOX "720"( or whatever they'll call it ) to compete with the PS3. Actually it will probably be better since it should use a more advanced CPU & GPU, but of course it'll probably be $400 while the PS3 will be selling for around $200.

Be patient. The PS3 games will come.
And no, I don't have a PS3 nor have I ever played one.
However, it's not worth buying a 360 at this point in my opinion considering that they will be producing the next Microsoft console in 2-4 years.

Substitute wife with little siblings and subtract the 360 part and I'm in the exact same situation.

How did you actually get it to the repair center? Can I just take it to best buy with the receipt and say handle this? Mine is a couple of years old, and the only problem is that sometimes it gives a disk read error or freezes. Mostly on my EA sports games. I believe the disc drive might be faulty as the disks are in great condition. I tried to talk to their customer support online or in e-mails but it just seems there is either a language barrier or a stupidity barrier.

As far as the RRoD is concerned, you can contact Microsoft and they will send you a shipping label to send your 360 in for repair.
If you bought a warranty for the 360 from Best Buy you may be able to take it back to them.
I hope that is of some help to you.

Yeah, thanks. I suppose I just need to tell them the cd/dvd reader is bad and gives false "dirty disk" errors. Maybe then they will just do it.

Ironic? Or sad? I had never heard of the Red Ring Of Death until I read about it on this board one evening. (Last summer) Sure enough... next time I fired up the 360... the Red Ring got me...
I guess it's all in how you view things... either I am the unluckiest son of a gun ever... or I had great luck in finding out what to do prior to it happening so that when it did happen, I was prepared...
I still think I am the unluckiest... :rotf:
It's obvious. This board jinxed you.
