Socom and Metal Gear Solid
Resistance(should only cost you 29 too)
Resistance 2(is supposed to be pretty good haven't played it yet)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Madden 09
Assassins Creed(Also $29)
Little Big Planet(is also supposed to be pretty good haven't played it yet)
Motorstorm is pretty damn fun if you have kids, but can get old.
GTA4
and that will get you started off good.
I'd recommend a bluetooth headset wholeheartedly if you don't already have one.
Oh and if you can...
Alot of stores sell the rock band 1 bundle for $129 or so(I know the IF Target does) and the rock band 2 bundle for $189. As far as I know the two bundles are the exact same except for which game is inside. You should buy the Rockband 1 bundle and the Rockband 2 game and it should end up being less or $10 dollars more, but you'll have both games.

the rb2 guitar and drums are much much better and durable....RB is a great game...I have like 240 songs on my HD(and rb2 disk)....fun stuff...once you get RB1 disk you can export the the songs to your HD and sell the disk....you could actually buy a used copy from gamestop...transfer then take it back with in 9 days and get your money back

ARe you sure the RB2 guitar and drums are more durable? we get 10x the returns on them at Target than we did with RB1.. which doesn't matter, because target isn't supposed to take them back.. but I'm seeing alot more of them coming back.

You know they only give you like 4$ now for that game, and 10$ for a flawless wireless controller. Rip off city.

Thank me later.

Why would you sell it?
Also, I heard Home was coming out this week. That's almost enough to make me pay for internet again.

I was/am very disappointed in AC. Besides that, you have, imo, a very solid list.
I might add "Fight Night". A ton of fun, nothing too difficult... old school feel to it... nice game.

I never ever use it.
It just sits there, i don't even watch blu rays anymore. I have a whole stack of them. I bought the first God of War a couple weeks ago too and haven't even opened it. Plus i went around and spent hundreds of dollars on those Eye of Judgment cards buying out all the Gamestops in the county. Just feels like it should be with someone whos going to use it.

ps3 sucks as a gaming machine.
socom was an EPIC disappointment for me.
most the games listed above are multiplatform btw
but for blurays its the best. Today I buy the Dark Knight :)

With Fallout on that list, don't forget Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition). It's made by the same people. Other than that, everyone seems to have listed several great titles. Both CoD's (4 and 5) are good as well (of course, they're multi-platform).
Little Big Planet is actually a game worth getting the system for by itself.

I'm not into games for children ;), but I do admit the graphics and physics engine is pretty cool on that game.

Cardiac Kids

Unreal Tournament 3
The Force Unleashed
Pixeljunk Eden (personal favorite for some odd reason)
Rachet and Clank (suprised nobody mentioned this, one of the best platforming games out in a very long long time)
Pewter Pride

Call of Duty 4
Oblivion (GoTY edition)
Fallout 3
Rachet and Clank (suprised nobody mentioned this, one of the best platforming games out in a very long long time)
I can't believe I forgot that one. That was an amazing game. It was actually the second game I played on the PS3 after Resistance.

My list with a few from other lists... Most of those games(alot of the better games) are not multi platform.

That damned game is like crack. Can't quit it.
Also, I just bought "Jericho"... it's crap. Just a heads up to anyone thinking of wasting $40 on it. Simply horrible.

Can we come to a consensus on say 5 games? I don't have too much gaming time so a library of 15+ isn't gonna work.
Thanks to all who have contributed.

Is it too late to vote for FIFA09? :)
I primarily play sports game but love the C.O.D. series as well.

It really depends on what you like.
Do you like shooters? Sports games? Other games?
My top recommendations would be:
1. Uncharted - Great Third-Person Shooter/Adventure. Beautiful Graphics.
2. Resistance 2 - Hectic 8-player Co-Op and an entertaining Campaign.
3. Madden 09/FIFA 09 - Can't go wrong with these two games.
4. Call of Duty 4/Call of Duty WoW: Just depends on what you want, they're both good although I would give the nod to Call of Duty 4.
5. Little Big Planet - A strange but nonetheless interesting game.

Other recommendations would be Fallout 3, GTA4, MGS4.
MGS4
Ratchet and Clank
Resistance
Madden
Little Big Planet would be my five.
