does anybody know a company or something that will fix it because I don't feel like shelling out the money for a brand new one

wrap it in a towel...
No seriously man mine is about that same age. Its one of the original "i slept in the parking lot to get" models. Seems to get louder by the day. I did a lot of looking and asking about this even sat on phone for hours with xbox to see what i could get done and the answer was always the same. Nothing. Only thing i found that helped a little was a good ol can of air and blast out the main fan area in the back. When its off and cool ofcourse. Just buildup on hardware like a pc.

If you get the red ring of death though Xbox will fix it for you for free or send you a new one.

Got the kids one for Christmas and it seems to make a lot of noise (more than the PS2 anyway), whats up with that??
Also kind of aggravated about how touchy they are when running with a game in them, can't look at them funny without scratching a ring in the disc....

Luckly mine doesn't scratch the disks. It just thinks they are dirty. :(

I have it in a cabinet with a glass door.
The back is open for ventilation, and I don't have to listen to it wheeze.
It's much better when playing movies, thankfully.

I got one for Christmas myself and have no problems with noise or scratching of discs.

I got one for christmas also. So far it hasn't scratched any disks except 3 GTAIV games. I'm just glad the store let me exchange them.
Every other game is fine though. I guess it just doesn't like Rockstar.

I have a PS3 and none of these problems at all.

The 360 scratches discs when the console is moved while the disc is spinning which shouldn't happen anyways. The reason is the high speed that the disc spins, when the 360 is playing a dvd it is a different speed. Thus also the reason behind the noise, which gets louder after the console has damaged a disc. I believe that the particles left over after this happens has a percentage to do wiith red rings and overheating problems.
Your best bet for prevention is to put the 360 down flat and keep it out of the way of traffic, which you should do anyways.
PS3 and BluRay discs are scratch proof, supposedly.

If I'm right the older systems don't have a built in cooling system and all the newer systems have alot of upgraded chips/parts
Only idea I can think of is get some air duster and spray the bad boy down.
Get all the dust out so it can run smoothly.
If it's standing. . . Lay it flat.
Also put it in space, So it can breathe = cant overheat.
Good luck.

Actually, if you ***** enough they will extend your coverage for the Red Rings of Death - at least they did for me.

If there's one near you I would suggest http://www.playntrade.com/. Im not sure how much for console repair, but I just took a very "laser" scratched Madden game to them and they resurfaced it for $3.00. Works like new. Their prices on everything else seem reasonable, so you may want to check them out.

I concur. Got the red ring of death and was out of warranty. I complained very loudly and said I would never buy another XBOX product, they sent me a box and had it back about 2 weeks working fine.

Detach your hard drive, take the 360, power supply, cables and call to double check if they want a controller with it to Gamestop and trade it for like 90 dollars credit and get an Arcade 360 with HDMI and a fresh warranty.
I did that when they were doing 110 dollars credit for my out of warranty xbox for a brand new Arcade and just attached my hard drive to it.

Oh you're good. Either that or the person you traded it to at Xbox was stupid and didn't plug it in to check.

My 360 is about to go in the ****ter. I just had the RRoD. I turned it off and worked fine when I turned it on again.
If the Box dies, then I will try and get it fixed, but if they screw me then I'm done with the 360. Sony will have my business.
