DT out of SJ....youtube him....he jumps out of a swimming pool waist deep in water
It is insane also his wing span in the video...he stands in a doorway and touches the top of the door frame and the floor
not advocating us drafting him...but he is a freak, crazy video to watch
GotQB?

he seems to be pretty special...a freak in the weight room and hes 6'5"...but at 287 with that height hes skinny for a DT...he may be a better fit at DE in the NFL...he had 9.5 sacks last year

Not to mention with that height it will be difficult for him to get leverage against the run.
He does seem like a situational DE to come in on passing downs.

I don't think he'd do well as a DE. He's fast, but not fast enough to have the threat of a consistently effective speed rush. His greater attribute is his quickness, particularly in his stunting. He also has very good technique and positioning in the run game, keeping his outside arm free and never stopping his feet.
He would make a mighty fine addition to the DT rotation, potential starter. Pull the trigger, gentlemen.

I brought up the pool video in the Preliminary mock draft thread. It's insane. I think we should definitely grab him in the mid rounds. He seems to be creeping up draft boards though.

HUGE Gilbert fan here. He is a freak athlete and a disruptive player, whether you play him inside or outside. I don't think the Bucs under Bates are going to be interested in him, and I think one of the new 3-4 teams are going to grab him. I think Denver or Green Bay at the top of the 2nd makes alot of sense.

I spy someone who watched First Take this morning.
On Jarron Gilbert, I'm not sure on the guy. Watching him, he plays too high. An offensive lineman with any concept of blocking with leverage will be able to beat him. On tape, he gets fooled by misdirection and has a problem getting low and wrapping to make the tackle. Being 6'6" and 280lbs.... that would give you the impression that he would be a better DE than DT, but I don't think that's the case.
That said, he does have the rips, swims and spins along with active enough hands to be a pass rushing force. His athleticism and power are off the charts and definitely give him an edge. Maybe a good DL coach can work him on keeping a low center of gravity, good tackling techniques and a trainer can get him to put on some weight.
Maybe you take a chance on him in the fourth round, with the intent to develop him long-term. He will likely be selected much earlier, but that's a reach.
