View Full Version : Selling a Xbox 360 Question

Had a question I'm hoping someone can help with.

My 360 was sent in for repair (still under warranty) for the second time in less than 2 months recently and I've only had it since Dec. 2007. Since it can be repaired for free I figured I'd get it repaired before attempting to sell it along with games and accessories.

My question to those who have sold a 360 back in the past...how do I erase all of my saved files and information from the HD? Basically when I sell it,I want it formatted just as when it is first purchased. No gamertag, no saved files, nothing at all. A blank HD devoid of any personal information and data. How do I go about whipping the entire thing clean to make it ready to re-sell?

I'll probably go back to PS. I know there's a 360 vs. PS3 battle and I do like 360 it's just I can't stand the issues anymore. I've always had a PS, PS2 and just wanted to try something different. I think I'm going back to PS.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I can't help you with wiping it, but if you're dumping the 360 due to hardware problems, just be aware that an inordinate amount Blu-Ray drives in the PS3s are starting to fail and Sony is making their customers pay to have it fixed.

^^^^^ This.........I am switching to 360 as my PS3 has failed twice.....I am well aware of the 36o issues but I am buying an extra warranty as well......and supposedly the 360 is failing less.....

Eh, I don't really want to spark a fire but the PS3's Blu-Ray problems have a long way to go before they match the RROD.

Edit: No help on the 360 part, I tried to do this to mines a while back but it was just a head scratcher.

You can reformat the hard drive no problem. It's in the device options somewhere maybe in the memory section of the setting tab, where you would go to find the actual files on your hard drive. I believe you just press Y somewhere along the way to go into the options. Then when it's done just go back to that part of the dashboard and check.

Does it say which models are the ones failing?

I always hear about 360s failing but I have had mine since day 1 and I have never had a problem...but I always think about it...none of my friends have experienced difficulties either...I have many more problems with the ps3, but they are mostly in the mulitplatform games...not the system itself

I do hate how loud my 360 is...can be annoying

As a general consensus, the 60 GB ones are getting a lot of Blu-Ray problems and the PS3 version called the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death).

Not saying PS3 is failing more in general......I mean that less Xbox 360s are failing now than earlier.....

I appreciate all the input. I haven't made a final decision and may just see how the refurbed 360 holds out. I have a lot of money invested in the hardware and software and I'd hate to have to start over. We'll see how it goes I guess.
