The single player game for COD4 is a gaming masterpiece in my opinion.....my only complaint was that it was too short. Online is great too, obviously.......but

The variety of missions....the landscapes, AI, storyline, and on and on and on.....cant wait for MW2

Acog M16 + stopping power. Blap blap blap to the chest = down. I use that and red dot g36. Camping RPD with stopping power and deep impact + 2 clays. Hardcore, P90 stopping power and dead silence. Hardcore search and destroy M16+ noob tube, you can take out a couple players right off the back if you know where to shoot. (hint: cars).

Yea and online is the best I've ever played........although I've never played HALO, and I've heard that makes COD look like Bond............but yea. That trailer is pretty hardcore......I hope single player mode is a little more time consuming this time.

The video shows a new kill streak perk. You can choose your own rewards for getting killstreaks, up to 15 of them, one example is at an 11 kill streak you get to man the guns on an AC-130.

I played MW a lot, but mostly the single player.......not so much online.........the main reason was bc I got the game about a yr after it came out and my online playing experience consisted of me getting my *** handed to me by guys that had been playing for that whole first yr and amassing the necessary equipment and upgrades that made the gaming experience for a "noob" pretty much unbearable.......................

So as far as online goes.........is that pretty much your experience? Did you have to play the first one for hours and hours and hours just to get to a level to compete online? I'd love to jump online now with the first one, just to get reacquainted with the controls and everything...............but what's the point?

If you don't start playing on-line when the game first comes out you are at a significant disadvantage.

But the disadvantage isn't just the weapons...the vets will often prestige up and lose the best weapons as well. My kill/death ratio is nearly the same with the guns they give you at the beginning as it is with the high level weapons -- you just have to change your playing style -- usually at the low levels I take the high fire rate weapons and play extremely aggressively, almost kamikaze mode. Although I must say, not having the good perks does make it harder.

The biggest disadvantage in my opinion is getting to really know/understand the maps. A good guy who really knows the maps with the worst weapon >>>>>>>>>>>>> a new guy with the best weapon who has to look at the radar to figure out where to go.

The best advice I always give is to simply watch how people kill you, don't just skip over the kill cam. Also, watch your good teammates.

The last part of the question is your decision but I will tell you my experience with COD4 was a lot different than you stated. You get the mp5 right off the bat and that is the only gun i ever use and im consistently number 1 can't remember a game i haven't been first to be honest.

dude I brought MW about a month or two a go to get reacquainted. I'm facing lvl 55 guys and I'm lvl 21 right now. I was never a "expert" on the game but everybody gets handed on that game. Online is the best mode on the game. you have to try it. Yes you will start off with average weapons and face ppl with better ones. But they all started where you will be starting. I think once you have a decent game, and learn the maps you will start to love this mode.

Lvl 55 means nothing, all it is is a number. I was playing with a few friends a while back along with some other noobs to the game, and we were playing against a whole team of 55 gold crosses, we beat them by about 300 pts.

Just depends on the board. For the most part, close contact boards need quick fire weapons. Larger boards are better for snipers. There are a few guys who are absolutely sick with the sniper guns and can use them just about everywhere, but I'm not one of them :)

I know levels don't mean anything. But pertaining to his post, lvl 55 means you have all the weapons and upgrades, which he was worried about vs his starter weapons, feeling that he was at a disadvantage.

I think the only "bad" starter weapon you get is the sniper gun.

The "starter" light machine gun and rifle (COD) / assault rifle (MW) are pretty darn good. All the shotguns are about the same. I've always found all the heavy machine guns to be meh.

I love the shotguns...especially pulling them out on the wide open boards where no one expects them. You just have to play like a bit of a thrill seeker, if you stop sprinting, you die. Most people panic when they see someone running directly at them.

You're probably going to get your *** handed to you for a while. People have practically memorized the exact location to throw a grenade over the building and have it land near your spawn.

That being said, the best thing you could possibly do is take it slow and always, always check your flanks. The easiest way to rack up a high score is to usually go opposite of the way your whole team is going. It makes it easier to pick off stragglers and flank the enemy.

Learning the map is probably your single easiest way to raise your K/D as well as improving your accuracy. Be quick on the trigger but don't waste your ammo. Without bandolier, you usually have just enough ammo for four or five guys if you conserve wisely. You also don't want to just shoot all the time because it easily gives away your position.

I recommend going with either M16 + Stopping Power, M4 + Stopping Power, MP5 + Stopping Power, MP5 + Juggernaut early on. Leave the sniping to when you've figured out the maps.

Got online last night and it went down just as you described above.........guys know the spawn locations and are constantly tossing grenades.......plus it was taking forever for me to get in a room with guys that would actually let me play with them. The whole experience was pretty unbearable........think I'll stick with single player on harder levels to try to get better until the second one comes out

I do have a couple of questions though, if someone wouldn't mind answering

1- As far as the map goes (on the top left) how does it determine if your enemy pops up as a red dot or not? It seems like sometimes you can see where guys are and other times you can't..............do they pop up as red dots after they fire or throw a grenade and otherwise stay hidden?

2- My accuracy is just plain awful............in the one player game when you look through the scope it kind of automatically locks onto the bad guys......does it do the same thing in multi player? It didn't seem to, but maybe these other guys are just so good they can move around and duck when I start shooting at them better than the computers AI does?

3- Everybody has pretty much said the same thing here......that the upgrades don't make all that much of a difference......it's more about knowing the boards and getting better accuracy through practice............are there really no benefits to the upgrades? I was thinking you would eventually be able to sprint faster for a longer distance for example........or your weapons would become more powerful or whatever......is that not the case?

4- Somebody here recommended watching the "kill cams" to see how other guys were taking me out.........and there were times where you couldn't even see me on screen, yet they were pulling the trigger and firing........I get so frustrated bc it feels like I can't see most of these guys until they're right on top of me and by that time it's too late..........is this just another problem that time will fix? enemies pop up as they fire. if you get 3 kills without dieing you get a "uav" which lets you see on your radar where the enemies are at

I don't sniper that much so I can't answer this but someone else will.

There are definitely good upgrade worth getting. yes there is a perk to run for long distance, different sights you could equip etc.

yea it's a matter of getting the hang of online play. don't give up and keep working to get better. I'm sure someone will breakdown your post better than this but this is JMO

4- Somebody here recommended watching the "kill cams" to see how other guys were taking me out.........and there were times where you couldn't even see me on screen, yet they were pulling the trigger and firing........I get so frustrated bc it feels like I can't see most of these guys until they're right on top of me and by that time it's too late..........is this just another problem that time will fix? Keep in mind I'm on a 52' TV in HD.......so it's not the size or resolution of the game that's my problem........I just can't see these guys

1. Enemies pop up as a red dot when they shoot their gun. Note that they only pop up when they shoot their gun without a silencer. If they have a silencer on their gun, they won't pop up as a red dot. Note that when you shoot your gun, you also pop up as a red dot on their radar. It's very important to know that and it's probably a big reason people find you so easily.

2. The multiplayer game does have a bit of a lock-on mechanism when you aim but it's not nearly as exaggerated as the single player version of it. Your accuracy sucks because you're not used to shooting moving targets who have absolutely deadly aim. Sniping or not, it'll take a while to build up the right accuracy so you can confidently take down targets.

For now, the best thing you can do is to find alleys or choke points where your back is covered at least 180 degrees so you don't have to keep a wide pan of your shooting target. It also helps because then your target will usually run straight at you instead of weaving side to side.

3. Stopping power is a perk you start with and it's the perk I almost always use for the whole game up to LvL 55. As you kill more people with your guns though, you do get useful attachments such as a Red Dot Sight, a Silencer, or an ACOG scope. The most useful of all these is the Red Dot Sight as it will greatly improve your accuracy on some guns as the iron sights on some guns are kind of a hassle.

4. Refer to #1 as to why they know where you are. When you shoot, you pop up as a red dot so they can anticipate where you're going to be. Also, when an enemy gets a 3-kill streak, they can activate something called a UAV which lets them know your location for 30 seconds. This is another reason enemies might also know where you already are. Unless you have UAV Jammer (A perk you get in the 20s I believe), they will know where you are when someone on their team gets a 3-kill streak.

That leads into my next point which is to always, always take a quick glance at your radar to see if enemies are close. This, along with knowing the map and improving your accuracy, will benefit you greatly.

They are disabling party chat to prevent people from cheating.

Example...you are in a party with 3 of your friends and you are on the same team in a game. Now, another one of your friends joins the party and your game, but is put on the other team. He can no scroll through all of his teammates...and tell you the location of his teammates so you can go find them and kill them.

I think it sucks because I am always in party chat, but what can you do...I feel like after a while they will change it back.

IMO I don't think the 360/PS3 and MW cd are that advance. (using the 360 as a example) the private chat is on the 360 chat server or whatever you call it. While MW's in-game chat(lobby included) is on it's own MW server. So the ppl on the 360 server don't get recongized on the MW server, hints no audio from them, so I don't believe the MW server can infilterate(sp?) the 360 server and pick out which teams certain people are on.

And they had a "trade in 2 games and get $40 off on need for speed shift" What they don't tell you is it has to be a spefic(sp?) game on their list. By the way, if you guys haven't heard by now (and I'd be surprised if most of you haven't), there is a mission within the game that casts you as a terrorist. Your mission? Massarce civilians within an airport.

For those of you with tender sensibilities, never fear! Activision has confirmed that this mission is skippable if you don't wish engage in that type of stuff while gaming.

Infinity Ward is well known for pushing the boundaries of acceptability in order to captivate gamers with their storylines, so I'm not really surprised they're attempting something like this.

Keep in mind, I didn't play the first one all that much so I'm not too sure what the differences are..............but it's amazing....there's a TON of boards, and they all seem HUGE.......can be kinda tedious even running around just looking for someone

MEH it's ok nothing really "wowed" me yet. mulitplayer wasn't what I thought it would be it pretty average. I'd have to give the game a C+. wish I didn't spend 65 bucks on it.


yea right. this **** is awesome the single player is amazing the cpu AI for enemies is excellent. they'll try and sneak up behind you. so now you gotta watch your back at all time. the story action is ****ing crazy. the mulitplayer is top notch, love the maps so far I've only played two maps taking a short break now.

I'm through the first 3 chapters. Best game i have ever played. I felt totally immersed the whole time. I did complete a terrorist mission and i thought it felt a little like wtf are you serious... but then after a little bit it helped explain what was going on after wards better than if i would have skipped it. If you skip the missions you will NOT be penalized progress or achievements. You might be shown a cut scene im guessing to help you stay in the loop.

Most of what you see in the trailers comes first in the game, which is a good thing because you do have a lot to look forward to.

I would also like to add that this is the first time i felt like i was actually playing the single player game while in multiplayer. The enemy team really felt like the pc ai does in single player and the maps are righteous. I haven't tried free for all yet, i kept it on mercenary team so no parties can be involved. Figured that would be a way to cut most of the beta players from teaming up on the newbs.

I've made it all the way up to "The Hornet's Nest." Absolutely incredible.

The AI is ridiculously good, even on the lower difficulties. The "Takedown" mission was a mega-***** for me to complete because I kept getting ambushed from behind, but the first mission on US soil really takes the cake so far. The opening sequence of that mission is absolutely eerie. The beginning and end of the ice mission were awesome, as well.

I love the weapons, too. There are a lot of variations on weapons, including heartbeat sensors and thermal vision, which actually makes many of them useful in certain situations, plus you can find dual versions of the smaller guns, such as Desert Eagles and Uzis (left trigger fires the left one, and the right trigger fires the right one). Using the Predator drone to call in air-strikes was just awesome, though. :D

I don't remember which level it was but you fight in a shower room with guys shooting down on you from above then you end up in the sewer below. I remember thinking right in the middle in the fight that part is a reference to The Rock when the soldiers were put in the same situation. Thought it was pretty cool.

I'm sure there are a bunch of other references that I haven't caught yet.

That is Gulag where you rescue "Prisoner #627"....I just beat that level like 5 minutes ago.

This game is absolutely amazing. I loved it when you ride the snowmobiles and have ramp off the side of the mountain.

Well, I've beat "Wolverine" on Campaign...keep getting sucked into Multiplayer with my friends..

I'm sitting at 71k for worldwide score, So I'm pretty happy about that. I've got to say the maps are totally kick ***; without a doubt great designing.

Two questions:

Has anyone unlocked all the trophys yet; and can someone explain "demolition" to me. Scared to try it, hehe. I spend all my time in domination and TDM.

I got to play for about 45 minutes last night. 2 games on-line and about 20 minutes in single players.

Both were really cool. Playing on-line I can't believe how many people already are at high ranks -- mind you, if I didn't have to work I probably would be too :p I did at least get to level 4 to unlock create a class, I could never stand those default ones.


I didn't get far in the single player -- just finished the snowmobiles, which were cool.

The game’s Playstation 3 servers aren’t, as they’re causing quite a fuss, choking on demand and creating problems for war-hungry gamers around the globe. Here’s what Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling says on the matter: “It’s a server overload not a bug in the code,” so while you might’ve needed a patch to make sure your Playstation 3 trophies were registering properly, it has nothing to do with the server issue, and you should eventually be able to play Modern Warfare 2 online without any more patches. In fact, Bowling now says the servers are gradually coming back online, though some users may still have some problems.

Why are the problems only affecting Playstation 3 owners? Because, as Bowling explains, “Xbox Live servers are maintained and ran by Microsoft. PSN servers are ran and maintained by 3rd party companies hired to do so.”

I would like to have thought that they would have seen this coming. But then the PSN is free, so I can't really complain.

ok my online is back. You know what I like about this game online. I felt like on MW1 you had to be a "master" to get alot of kills (eg. 16/5), know ALL the little spots where you can kill people etc. But on MW2 I feel like anybody has a chance of winning a firefight. It just feels better.

sent my 360 in for repair while back, got a refurb back about 2 weeks ago, already broke. says open tray. disc only spins for 1-2 seconds, and it makes a noise right as the tray closes when it starts to read. my MW2 is in a city 30 mins away from me. I am getting a 360 that has "special capabilities", but still want a normal one fo live. might en dup buying a new one, and still sending this one in for repair and keep as backup. tired of MS sending out **** refurbs. Im gonna ask for more compensation. 2 repairs in 3 weeks.

i agree with kickstand's response here.

right now most people are simply running around the boards "fairly blind". it is new to everyone. soon enough people will find spots that suit their style of play (and i'm sure the glitches) and it will go back to its old ways. right now i'm just running around trying to learn the boards and the different guns and perks.


i kind of like the game now because it is more "kamikaze" style...later on everyone will bunker down in their "safe spots" and some games will get ridiculously boring.

I can't remember the names of the boards yet, but so far my best board was quarry, i was 23-3, just running around with a light machine gun.

The other one I like is the one along the cliffs with the waste in the middle (wasteland?). It had a crashed plane and one building and a couple caves. Everyone on the other team was sniping so I just started running around with a rifle and automated pistols, trying to flank them as much as possible.



I will tell you one thing that is absolutely killer, maybe a bit too killer, is the drone missile at 5 kills. It is sooo much more effective than the dogs (COD5) or the artillery strikes (WAW). You are nearly guaranteed at least one kill. (I guess with the dogs on the small boards it was easier to get lots of kills, but some boards you wouldn't get any).


I unlocked the one for 7 kills. What are people finding more effective the helicopter or the harrier? I used the helicopter twice and only got 1 kill on it -- it was even on a board that was mostly outdoors.

That Predator drone is amazing if you happen to see the impact......just unbelievable

And the AC-130? If you're on the ground that thing actually sounds "scary" when they're firing off those large missiles.........
