View Full Version : Rumor -- Corso and Folwer off of Gameday

On my local ESPN radio affiliate this morning, I heard that Corso and Fowler are leaving Gameday and that they will be replaced by Holtz and Ravich (sp?). Only Herbie is staying.

The rumor is that Home Depot (the big sponsor) has essentially asked ESPN to get rid of Corso and replace him with Holtz. And that Fowler is leaving the show on his own regard.

If this does happen to be true, I would hate it. College GameDay is one of the few shows I actually like watching. Nothing against Holtz, I actually like him, I don't watch baseball so I don't know what kind of job Ravich will do -- I just really like the three they have now.

When Lou Holtz talks, it reminds me of Sylvester from Looney Tunes. Can't take him seriously. Not to mention his analysis seems like guesswork and he tries to pass it off as serious. He brings zero to the entertainment side as well.

Lee Corso brought personality, good analysis and an entertainment value to Gameday. He had fun out there with the fans.

There has to be a reason Home Depot wanted Corso gone.

I don't particularly like Corso, but I don't like Holtz either, it's a wash to me.

The only thing I like about Holtz is that he picks SC no matter who we play...it's comical, just like he does with ND

I hope it's rumor. I like Corso from way back in 85 when he coached the Orlando Renegades and I used to go to Charley's Steak House on Orange Blossom Trail to watch his weekly TV show live. Fun times.

Who's gonna put the team hats on at the end of the show if Corso isn't there? :(

it annoys the **** out of me.

Now what would make a really funny team would be Holtz and Jeff Garcia.

A high pitched voice teamin up with a man who spits.

Please let this be only a rumor; btw, Corso is way better than Holtz. Of course, he's basically like the political debates - a big snore fest.

You're being very kind. Holtz is a freakin' boob! When he speaks, I turn the channel. The guy is an embarrassment to broadcasting!

Per Indianapolis Sports Examiner:

http://image.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/Corso.jpg

There were some unsettling reports today from SEC Live News that College Gameday would be undergoing some personnel changes this year -- including the departure of the beloved Lee Corso.

The changes would come at the hands of Home Depot, the show's sponsor, looking to shake things up. In addition to Coach Corso, Fowler would also be replaced, making room for Lou Holtz and Karl Ravech. Let's face it -- College Gameday just wouldn't be the same without Corso. He is the butt of the joke for most of the crowd signs and everyone looks forward to his gameday pick, when he dons the mascot head of the predicted winner.

Luckliy, SEC Live News has updated their report, claiming that ESPN contacted them directly to clear up any rumors and confirm that Corso (and the rest of the Gameday team) is staying put. Not sure where or how the rumor started, but I'm glad it was just that (to be fair, SEC Live News did warn us that the report might not be true.) Saturdays in the fall are my favorite days of the year and it wouldn't be the same without the old Gameday crew.

You mean no one likes to hear Lou Holtz gargle cellophane while analyzing college football?

True....he's a buffoon.

But at least the shot callers at ESPN recognize this and complete the mockery with the whole "Ask Dr. Lou" segment.

What a clown.

EDIT: At least they've found someone to take over the "King Idiot" title after Beano Cook left tv.
