1. peria jerry -- we desperatly need a DT (more than any other position). As much as I hope Dre Moore can show up to camp ready to play football i just don't see how we pass up on this guy
3. victor "macho" harris -- losing PBUC and after watching ronde last year i also think this is a position we need to look at closley. he seems to make the most since already playing in VT with the "cover 2". I actually watch alot of VT games and this guy is pretty good
4. Rhett Bomar -- Im just not sold on Freeman and I hope nyjets take him before us. i think bomar could be the steal of this draft -- he has all the tools
the only way i would be happy about taking a qb in the 1st rd is moving up to get sanchez other than that we do need to focus on the D.

Alphonso Smith (CB) in round 1..... then Sammie Lee Hill (DT) in round 3..... and Jarrett Dillard (WR) in round 4.
I believe that all 3 players will be very good starters in the NFL in 2 years time, and productive in the meantime.

I'd be very happy with this combination, though I personally would prefer:
Ron Brace (DT), Coye Francis (CB), and Derrick Williams (WR)

If you want a guy from Penn State I would say Butler. Derrick Williams is good but he isnt a hands catcher and that will hurt him at the next level. Butler would be a solid pick.

But, the other guys play the same positions, just better.

I'd love this draft. Hopefully the OP is dominik in disguise

alot of people on this board want a WR sooo bad. i just don't see why, i for one am happy with where we stand at that position. now granted it could be better but alot of teams could say that about almost every postion on there roster. i think a. bryant is a very good #1, i really beleive clayton will turn it around this year then you have stovall and now campbell/warren. also, lets not forget what winslow is gonna bring to the passing game. and one more thing let's not forget this is very much gonna be a run first team no matter who our starting qb is going to be. i think we focus on the D, maybe take a chance on a qb later in the draft ( i dont think we have a franchise type qb on our roster ). lets get back to a good defense paired up with a good run game

Antonio Bryant is on a 1-year deal, and may be lost after the year. Clayton, may indeed be a bust. Stovall has shown nothing other than to be a special teams standout. Kelly Campbell and Paris Warren are not going to set anything on fire, even if you gave them flamethrowers.
It is possible that a year from now, we have nothing at WR.
We need another one. Or two.

As much as I like all of those players, I have a hard time believing the Bucs won't get a DE in their first three picks.

I don't disagree with the notion. That's why I'm hoping we trade back, with the Giants or Patriots.

Going by the old value chart:
#19 = 875
for
#34 (560) + #47 (430) + #89 (145) = 1135
That'd probably be a bit much for the #19. Who do you think they'd really want at #19 though? The corners go deep enough that they could get a good one at their own pick. Maybe one of the USC backers?

That's what I was thinking..... because Detroit is right behind us. They can still land a good CB with their first rounder.
If Maualuga is there, they'd pay the ransom. If he's gone, and it's Cushing or Matthews..... they might be less inclined, but may still may make the move.
Of course, if Detroit takes Curry, that idea will get shot to hell.

I don't think the Patriots are the kind of team that would overpay. I think a trade down is still likely, and the Patriots are a possibility, but we won't get that much. If we get one extra first day pick, I'd be ecstatic. I'd also love any trade that included a 2010 first rounder.

The thing is, not only does NE draft great, but they value their picks. They aren't one to make a hasty decision because a big name guy is still on the board. I'm thinking they'd be quite content staying where they're at and taking someone who still fits their system. Plus, three first day (not technically with the new set-up, but in the way they've always been valued) picks to move up a little over a dozen picks to a spot in the draft that isn't great. Hell, we could use a LB too and we're not falling over ourselves trying to get a Cushing or someone.

We all know how well the Patriots move around on draft day to net themselves these extra picks, but they don't have many glaring needs and they have far too many picks to fit the guys on the roster.
They might have stockpiled all 10/11 of their picks this year to make a move for a top quality guy instead of a bunch of system players. It would make sense, I think.

See it doesn't make sense because they turned down first round pick offers...and possibly a first and a third for Matt Cassel and gave him away for a 2nd AND threw in Vrabel. To me that is a combo of dirty business and not wanting extra first.

I doubt they'd do it for just our 19th overall, but they do owe us for that Cutler debacle.:biggrinre
I say sense BB likes to stir up controversy he should help us get Peppers. Act like he wants Peppers and Finalize the trade for #34 overall. Then when its a done deal trade him and #47 overall to us for #19, a 2010 3rd and Brian Griese.
Griese would be a more than capable back up in the Pats system should Brady go down. He wouldn't be asked to throw many passes over 15 yards and we all saw what the system did for Cassels lack of arm strength. They could use 19th for Malaluga and 23rd for English or Barwin.
We'd go #47 for Sean Smith,
3rd for Sammie Lee Hill
4th for Chris Baker
5th for Brandon Tate
I'd be overly happy on draft day, haha.
We might even be able to sell the Colts on trading us a 2nd for Hovan and Sims, haha!

In another draft to another group of players, maybe. But I can't see them deviating from what's worked for them (they've turned plenty of "system players" into Pro Bowlers), to be in the position that every Buc fan and their mothers want to get out of.
They aren't going to just be looking to blow first day picks because they have some depth. They ARE one of the best drafting teams in the NFL in recent history. Their defense did fall off from years' past. And one LB isn't going to turn that around. They've got problems in the secondary, they're not as deep or as good as they used to be on the outside either.
And for a team thats looking to load up on higher caliber players at the expense of mid round picks, they sure did trade down last year to pick up a third. I mean, others can buy into the hope that they sell the farm for one guy, coincidentally helping us who have a shortage of picks in that area due to the K2 trade and that everybody has us falling butt-backwards into a trade-back, but I'm not putting much faith in it. Especially with NE.

we've placed most of our attention on the offense this offseason. the question is if we are going to stay with this during the draft. part of me says if we are going to overhaul the offense to bring in harvin in the 1st and go to defense after but certainly you can make an argument that we would be a better team with a solid defensive player in the 1st.
1. DT
3. CB
4. WR - ramses bardin - love this guy, could be a steal if he can improve on some parts of his game.

The three picks i'm really hoping for are:
2nd round Ron Brace DT
2nd round Larry English DE/OLB
3rd round Mike Mickens CB
Obviously that could only happen if we trade our #19 pick.
If we stay at 19 I would love for the team to go with Peria Jerry. I just dont see us improving any until we address the middle of our D-Line.

Its not the stats that are making Brace a 1st/2nd rounder. Its the lack of a quality DT class and the attention from the media he gets playing at a D1A school playing next to the best DT in the draft. Many people have said it...he's a 4th round talent that is getting play in the 1st/2nd due to a poor DT class.
