View Full Version : are you already in "want to see improvement, but a loss is the best result" mode?

just wondering

because I am

I don't want 0-16, but I'd take 1-15 with our young guys improving throughout the season

I don't really get in that mode. I want us to win, even if it means a worse draft pick. We certainly look like a 1st overall pick kinda team right now though.

How about a better result.

Our team starts playing like it should and starts winning games.

When your talent works out, you don't need to continually draft high talent and spend a lot of money on picks that may not work out. You just keep improving through the draft, but by making good picks.

I look at like this

the Matt Bryant 60 yard FG and the picture of the Eagle fan still in his seat with his head down after Ray Jay cleared out was cool that DAY

and Grads taking us down the field and getting us our first win of the season with the Clayton booth review TD catch was a cool moment that DAY

but having Calvin Johnson here and not having to watch Gaines Adams sorry *** get blocked out wide of the QB snap after snap would of been cool for the next 10 years

there is no doubt a lot of truth to what you are saying

look at the Colts first round picks this decade

they always draft late, but there first round picks this decade is as good as anybody

but still a high draft pick gives you access to some special players that you would never have otherwise. Or it puts you in position to trade for more picks

All well and good, but a strong coaching staff can turn pretty much any decent pick into a good to great player, and any good to great pick into an elite player.

Look at the Giants in 2007. All of their rookies contributed and are steadily turning into standouts.
yes, some players you can only get at the top of the draft. But if a team really wants them, they'll expend the picks to get them. If you're a good team, there's little point in losing game after game to get them, and risking the loss of a good coaching staff.

Because we have so much faith in the Bucs FO when it comes to drafting in the top 5?

I don't care who's back there... we seem to have a better shot at stinking it up than anyone else.

Never.

I will NEVER root for a lost. Nor do I want the #1 pick. It's a horrible pick and a HUGE burden on a franchise. I'd rather sit pretty 5-10 somewhere.

When it gets to "that point" in a season, I still won't root for a loss. Never... I may however root for the teams ahead of us to "win".... that's different.

Once the playoffs are officially, mathematically out of the question...I don't actively root for a loss, but I gain a severe indifference to to it. Especially if it's the difference between a pick.

I'd keep those victories, "tank" against the Browns and get the third pick so Joe Thomas would've been a Buccaneer. C.J. is too much to ask for, but I would take him for sure! Wow that draft seems like yesterday. Such disappointment.

I don't want to lose over a college kid who has never played. Like JD said, having the #1 overall pick is a very bad thing for a franchise. Sure, you can have whatever player you like. But you have to pay them an insane amount of money and it's no lock that player works out. Hell, most #1 overall picks don't work out.

You've got to operate from the assumption you're getting the chance to draft Peyton Manning.

As for this draft, it's kind of interesting. Only one of the bad teams is a mortal lock to go after a QB (St. Louis). There are a bunch of teams that need defensive linemen, but several of them run a 3-4, which wouldn't fit Suh or (especially) McCoy. Maybe not even Dunlap, who looks a little light to play the five technique in a 3-4 and is too lanky to make the OLB transition.

So, the #1 pick would only really be worth it if we were ahead of another 4-3 team that needed a defensive lineman, like, say Detroit or Oakland.

I don't think the Bucs would've taken Joe Thomas if we picked 3rd. Everyone here would now, but at the time we needed passrush (we still do, but Rice was coming off a 2 sack season and it was our #1 need at the time). If CJ wasn't there, we were going to take Adams IMO. Losing to the Browns just would've meant we'd be paying Gaines Adams even more money to stink it up.

Yea I'm the same way. 0-3 is way too soon to start hoping for losses just to get the top draft pick... but once the playoffs are out of reach, I stop caring whether we win or lose.

The way we have been playin and the schedule we have i cant even see 3 wins... maybe wins @miami and seattle and one home game against a division rival. I dont want the 1st pick, but top 3 would be a nice way to fix this team!

I was in that mode before the season started. I thought we'd be below average, then we named Lefty our starter and I quietly threw in the towel. I don't root for us to lose, but when it does happen, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I want an elite prospect and I know we're not a playoff team. Does anyone know the difference at the end of the year between a 4-12 team and a 5-11 team? Would anyone care? Then there you go...
