View Full Version : How would you adjust the Buccaneers' offense in Warrick Dunn's absence?
Hot Topic

Buccaneers Head Coach Tony Dungy has stated that the team will not overhaul the offense will RB Warrick Dunn is out (3-4 weeks).
However, there are still decisions to be made as to who carries the ball, how often, and under what formations?
What's your opinion on how the Bucs' should approach the offense while Dunn is out?

The same as when he was in, only use Stecker. Don't change, it will be harder to change BACK when Warrick's healthy. I know fans on here are going to go crazy, but, the O is moving the ball, not scoring a lot. So, we work on the trouble with scoring, then when Warrick gets back, we don't lose a step............IMO............Jay

Run Alstott up the gut while also taking some "chances" on offense with more intermediate pass routes. A couple deep passes as well per game. Whatever it takes to get into the end zone and get the offense some kind of confidence and rhythym.

The only thing that got them this far. Alstott moves to tailback, Warrick did it when he was out. Moore comes in to block until cook can figure this out. As far as scoring Moore is still on the team last I knew and he can score and so can Anthony. Back in 97 Alstott was leading the team in receptions what happened? Can anyone see this? Someone repley and tell me please?! http://64.159.85.249/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif

Great News! I'm sure glad that coach has maintained his philosophy after Warrick's injury and the fury of "Monday Quarterbacking" on the site a few days ago.
Anyway, I would suggest that Aaron Stecker become the primary ballcarrier in the abscence of Warrick Dunn. Stecker has a very similar "pick & dart" running style to Warrick's. By placing Stecker in the starting line-up, Coach Clyde can continually implement his schemes and maintain tempo and balance of the offense.
Alstott should not become the feature back because his greatest strength is catching screen passes for large gains and/or point production in the red zone where he works his magic by bowling over defenders in short yardage situations.
Utilization of talent in the Gulf Coast offense is critical to its success. Multiple set formations requires that Stecker is on the field in a very similar role to Warrick as a reciever. Alstott should be primarily used as the workhorse/ground-pounder in a split backfield on 2nd down plays run inside the tackles. Christy whom does an excellent job of pulling can spring him for some good yardage on plays with this design. Execution on this down is critical to setting up 3rd and short by maintaining tempo.
In the Gulf Coast Offense patience is the key, execution is the motto. However, to throw the boys in Green Bay off-balance I would open the game with the 2-minute offense to begin the attack. Prevent them from stacking the box early, and salt the game away with ball control and patience.
Somewhere I heard that patience is a virtue!? Tempo & Execution.
Go BUCS!! Go GULF COAST OFFENSE!!!!

They should use Mike Alsott most, but use Stecker often. I have a feeling the BUCS won't be very good this season.

I donīt like this "I feel we wonīt have a good season" crap. We just played two games and lost one because our D didnīt played like they usually do. Lots of games still in front of us.
Donīt change too much because of Dunnīs injury. It is very difficult to replace him, but Iīd just put Stecker in and let him do the work. Changing the offense could bring up new problems, they donīt even have the original plan running in perfect shape.

I know that Dungy isn't going to pass the ball more so their isn't any reason to change just have Stecker and Abdullah run the ball.

While Dunn is out. We can get our PASSING game going and get Johnson & Green on track. That way when Dunn returns we should a solid running & passing game intact. I hope. Since Green Bay does not have deep threat like a Randy Moss I would like to see more corner blitz packages and knock Farve on his butt!!!.

I would use Alstott like Dunn. Make him the feature back getting plenty of plays to him running and passing. Adjusting the plays called to Mikes strengths and likes. Allowing our offense to find out how good they are in his hands. It will be interesting to see the outcome.
Here is my quick healing method for sprains 8-10 minutes of immersing in ice then 8-10 minutes inmersed in hot water repeat ice/hot 3 times next a TENS unit or ultra sound unit sending electric pulses to speed up the healing, then vitamins/medication like glucosamine/Chrondroitin and anti-flamitorys. For some people this maybe lethel but it was the fastest recovery ever when I used this method.

You better figure it out and quick because your schedule isn't very inviting. A confident 3-0 Packer team is coming into town almost won there last year I think. And, you may end up playing a very ticked off 0-3 Titans team next week at Tennessee.

give it to good ol' Allfumble.
he has his problems but he can run r offense, this was seen in '99. teams know how to tackle him but i believe he can do it...
the bucs seem to want to open the running game by passing. so y r they throwing these little 8 yard passes? to spread a D to open the running game u must give them something to be afriad of... i.e. deep ball.
in not on the throw every down band wagon, and i believe firmly in a lot of running, but the passing game needs to go a little deeper so the opposing D doesnt only have to gaurd 15 yards from the line of scramage and below.
i cant remember if weve thrown a deep ball all season.
and get ready 4 sunday cause r D is hungry and we r gonna be comming right at farves face!

Give Stecker the ball and let him run. It all comes down to our offensive line no matter whos back there. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch BIG MIKE run the ball, but we're gonna have to mix it up. We have to get Green and Anthony into the game. Johnson needs a big game to quiet the inevitable QB controversy. Thats what happened to the Skins last year and look what happened to them. The D will step up and play their game this week. Get Dave Moore involved. Has he caught a pass yet? Has he had a pass thrown to him? Get Well soon Warrick! We need ya. GO BUCS!!

Bucs need to take a few chances on offense and go deep. Pound them with Alstott late in the game as the defense doesn't want to have to bring him down. Our offense needs a little more time to get their timing down. We will be fine.

Up untill late last year, Alstott was our man. Why in the world we would we NOT give the ball to Mike. This is his chance to get back into the offense where he belongs. All you guys who think he fumbles too much need to watch this man run. Should we fault him for running so hard that it takes 3 or 4 guys to bring him down?? Alstott has something to prove and I think it is only right to put him back there at tailback. The more chances he gets, the more he will wear down a defense. I expect to be blowing my A-train whistle all game on Sunday!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!

RUN THE FOOTBALL! Dungy keeps saying we are a ground strength team. Then By Gum, RUN THE FOOTBALL! Brad has had two games to show he won't carry the offense with his arm.

Increasing the passing game is a nice option but under Dungy there's absolutely no chance of that happening. Alstott will run the ball more, especially on 3rd and short, problem is defences will be aware of this.

Run the defense down with Alstott up the middle then mix it up with Stecker & Abdullah.

Stecker-last year NFL-Europe's lead running back, should be used early to wear down the defense, wearing their dark green jerseys in the heat. After the offense has been on the field awhile(I keep hoping-no 3 and out's) then add Alstott as the running back. Use Alstott and Moore in the Red Zone to score. Use Abdullah and Stecker for kick returns-we don't want to see number 1500. Go back to Coach Dungy's conservative, ball control offense during the heat to keep our defense well rested. We don't want another embarassment from the defense like we saw in Minnesota. We are all anxious to see them open up the offense with the passing game, but save it for the cooler weather or for playing Detroit(they are slow).

Go deep! You need to go deep on some passes to put some fear in opposing defenses. They will not respect your running game if you don't give them a reason to back up on some of their blitz packages and play more defenders on the receivers. When you open up the passing game the defenses play back a little more and are fearing the pass allowing the running game to open up and make some big plays. Open up the passing game and ram it down somebody throats. Green is to fast and Keyshawn is to **** good not to open up the passing game. Isn't this what brad Johnson was brought in to do for the offense.

we want shawn king back!!!. johnson might be getting paid the big bucks but hes not performing. king made this team last year. by signing johnson the bucs messed up the relationship he built with the team and put in someone that might have career numbers but nothing with the rest of the players. this was a critical year for the bucs because everyone said theyre leaving if they dont win. put king back and i guarantee they will win. with johnson they wont get close to the wild card.. we want SHAWN KING!!!!!
