View Full Version : Would you have considered going for two after the last touchdown in Tennessee?

Late in the Tennessee game last Sunday, the Bucs scored a touchdown that, with an extra point, would tie the game and send it into overtime.
The Bucs did have another option at the time. The team could have attempted a two-point conversion, which likely would have decided the game, one way or another, right then and there.
Disregard that you know the outcome of the Bucs' decision to try their luck in overtime. If the clock is rewound to just after that last touchdown, would you have gone for two?

Based on Bucs Offense past performances in the red-zone no. Dungy can't afford to gamble do to his current popularity. The Bucs pretty much lost the game with the rookie penalty and in Pro football mistakes cost big time. The penalty lost not only yardage but the momentum changed also. Everybody was pretty much dead tired Witch's leads to mental fatique so overall alertness and prowess is running on empty.
Lets win the next several games, Go Bucs!

No I don't think they should have went for two pionts. They tied the game and took the chance to win in OT. I do however think the play calls in OT were not the best. GO BUCS!

Ill start the debate and say that yes, maybe they should have gone for two. I think that in a road game, with the momentum from scoring 2 quick TDs, the odds are in your favor to grab the lead at that moment. When the next period starts (OT), all bets are off and the crowd is once again into it, rooting for their team. I would have, though when I was watching the game, I knew they wouldnt...

No I would not have gone for 2. They made a smart decision there but instead in overtime they screwed up. They did 2-3 min worth of passing in regulation. So they go into overtime and pass it some more. The clock reset. They had timeouts. On first down or 2nd down they should of ran the ball to get them out of the whole a little then Royals punt probaly would have went further. I figured hand it off to alstott and that was my opinion. They screwed up in OT.

It was smart to go for the extra point becuase if the Bucs went for two they probably would hve ran mike alstott up the middle and he would have gotten stuffed.

You guys are idiots, what's wrong with running Alstott up the gut, they used to do it all the time. He's got a motor that doesn't quit, and until Tampa gets him back into the playbook they're going to lose alot more games. Pound the ground with A-train, hit Dunn on the outside, with screenpasses and hit the wideouts medium to deep- Jaquez and Keyshawn. Maybe even try draws on Third downs after you've established the threat of downfield passing. A great play would be the Lead Draw- Dallas used to run it with the '92-'95 teams. It's a delayed run up the middle, the quarterback drops back to pass, the line goes into pass protection, then the Fullback hits the hole, followed by a handoff to the ballcarrier, who was Emmitt, behind the Moose. Why doesn't Tampa try plays like that with their personel?

I wouldn't have gone for two.
Man, we can really kill all the rest of the teams in this leauge. our offense finally came to life in those last few minutes in Tennesse. I don't care what people say, if you can move the ball on the Titans, you can go on pretty much anybody. I don't care if they are 0-15. But I'll be reassured if we can slow down Jerome Bettis and the Steelers ground game.

Definitely go for two. To me at least( and I'm probably just talking out of my anus here) I always think that the Bucs are at there best when they go for a little risk. Conservative play is not what I want from them. Then again having the benefit of seeing
how that turned out might be coloring my judgement a little.

Going for two points may have meant losing the game in regulation time, allowing the fans to bash the offense and the coaches. Coach Dungy took the conservative approach, and went with the sure thing of Gramatica's point after. We won the toss in overtime, and had three tries to gain the yardage needed for the two point conversion, and those attempts failed. I would much rather lose in overtime than lose trying to gamble and win at the end of the game. The gamblers wouldn't be happy with either because the team would not cover the point spread.
I would rather like to think that we went for two points when we put the defense on the field-I'll take a safety anytime.

No, the Bucs coaching staff made a good decision not to go for the two point conversion. They did the right thing and kicked the extra point to force overtime. Had they not made the two point conversion everyone would be saying it was a bad decision. The only thing I would do different about the game would be the play calling in the earlier stages of the game and also in ovetime.

hellz to the nah. That is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. The play calling in the opening series in overtime would have been a bit different though.
The Bucs should have gone for two after the first touchdown in the fourth quater. That way they could have played to win on the last drive. And if they missed, they had one more chance at two to tie. The good news is that it won't be an issue this week when we CRUSH the steelers.

I don't think that going for 2pts would have been a bad idea. The defense was playing pretty bad and the offense was inconsistant all day so why not try to end it in regulation when you have a chance.

I must say the Bucs should have gone for two. Whats wrong with sending Alstott up the middle? We've done it before and have gotten yardage and TDs many times. I don't think they would have screwed it up.
