View Full Version : Who is the Bucs' defensive MVP this season?

Prior to the season, good money on that issue would have been on someone from the veteran trio of DT Warren Sapp, LB Derrick Brooks and S John Lynch.

Any one of those three would certainly be good choices, but they're getting good competition from some other players, including CB Ronde Barber and DT Simeon Rice, both of whom stood out Sunday against New Orleans.

Who is your choice?

what a stupid question!!!! RONDE BARBER!!! 3 picks today!!! 9 on the season with two more games left to go in the regular season. He has been all over the place from blocking punts to recovering and making fumbles and scoring TD's... he is definately Pro Bowl bound. yeah baby... playoffs here we come!

RONDE BARBER.... and SIMEON RICE is starting to get hot with the sacks.

Today was a great showing of a team game, but we have to put it together again for 2 more weeks. Ravens are going to be a tough test with their D, but we will pull it out cause Bucs don't lose at home.

Let's get the win streak going again... and O-Line keep giving Brad time.

GO BUCS!!!!!

Thats an easy one. Ronde Barber. He came up big today(12/23/01) with those interceptions and capping it off with a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It wasn't just this game that he made big plays but it was every game. He's going to the Pro Bowl this year and he deserves it.

1 Luv,
Boogie

The true Bucs team showed up today! This is their true level of football. They have set the benchmark - the effort level of EVERY player was 200%! The mistakes made in this game were minimal and were easily overlooked when compared to all the things done to almost absolute PERFECTION! In my opinion, Mr. Monte Kiffin did an outstanding job in preparing his defense for this game. That's why it is so difficult to pick a player that outshined the rest. As a recap, I'd just like to give my opinion on how the players brought it to the field today. Mr. McFarland was breeding the pressure to bring to the Saints offense all day long. He, along with Mr. Sapp sacked Aaron Brooks and did a little show afterwards to really pump the crowd. By the way, Aaron Brooks shouldn't be taken lightly. He is the 4th ranked QB in the league. Did you see his side armed throw to Joe Horn in the 3rd QTR? I'm sure you did! Still... the defense of our team shut 'em down!! In addition to Sapp and McFarland how about Mr. Dexter Jackson? He got an interception pick , the second of the game. Great Job. Mr. Steve White surely doing his part today! He almost had ANOTHER interception pick off. I can't even say enough about Mr. Simeon Rice! He has such finesse... he is so agile. He was a great addition to our defense. Wow! How about Mr. Derrick Brooks- he is a pure tackler. The same can be said for Mr. Lynch. He is all over the field at any given time. It's like he can be in 3 places at once. How do you pick a defensive MVP? After watching todays game only one player truly deserves that honor. Mr. Ronde Barber. Not just because of his 3 interceptions or returning one of them for a TD but because he has truly come out shining above the rest. When I think of him, especially after this game, the only word that comes to mind is a true athlete. He still has apulled hamstring too!! If he's not an all-pro, who is? As
Howie Long said in this Visa
Halftime report, "The Bucs showed up today"! However, I can't stop there! I must go on and talk about the other key aspects of our team. I am so impressed by our offense today. I knew Mr. Brad Johnson had the talent- now he knows he has the talent too. Mr. Jameel Cook is so impressive as well! Not only can he block for Alstott but the man can catch too. What about Mr. Mike Alstott- where did he get those moves?! Mr. Dave Moore- having the most TDs for any tightend in the league. Where does our talent end? It doesn't! Mr. Warrick Dunn- getting the 3rd TD of the game taking us to lead the Saints 26-0. It was bound to happen for a player/person of his caliber. Timing was there along with his speed and style.
Who can forget the last play completed by
a 2nd string QB we all have grown to know
Mr. Shaun King. He was all smiles!
It gets better too..... special teams. They are HOT! Mr. Aaron Stecker's punt return set the pace of the whole game. Mr. Dwight Smith, redeeming himself from his penalty, swatting the ball out of the endzone to ensure the Saints have lousy field postition for their offensive series. Mr. Martin Gramatica, as always, sealing the deal after each TD to get us the extra point. I'm sure I've left out some great plays and players. Those are the ones that really stuck out to me. It's quite clear that our players were motivated, inspired, and ready to do their job. Due to the great coaching staff? NO DOUBT! Mr. Tony Dungys commitment to excellence- with his comments on screen, overcoming adversity with speculation in the air, and rising to the occasion proves he is the go-to-guy for the Bucs. Win or lose in the playoffs. Todays win was not only a win for the players, or the coaches, or even the fans, but a win for the Glaciers. They have found THE team for Tampa Bay. What a great Christmas present for a true fan- tickets to the game would've been better but my 52" wide screen with surround sound was adequate enough. The have finally realized and utilized all of their talents! ENCORE!

RONDE BARBER!!!!!!
Defensive MVP! No one is even close. He's always around the ball.Accept for the
Bears game at home he's been awesome. But there's to many good corners in the NFC and he'll probably get snubbed for the Pro Bowl just like Abraham did for so many years. By the way, still waiting for Brooks to show up this year. Yeah he leads the team in tackles but where's the big plays we're accustomed to.Not knocking the guy, think he's great but hasn't made to many big plays.Great win today! GO BUCS!

i say there is a tie between simeon, dexter jackson and of course ronde barber..... in my opinion these guys are a reflection of teh veteran trio so now we know that if they screw up we have these leaders to fall back on

great game today but out toughest challenge awaits, we need to learn to spread the ball more if we are going to beat this reavens team

Ronde Barber...He has been absolutly awesome off the corner position for the Bucs all year. The 3 picks against the Saints just added to his great year already. He is definatly the MVP of this team and deserves to go to Hawaii to start in the Pro Bowl.

Nearly everyone on defense has made key plays, but Mr. Barber has made several game breakers. However, I think John Lynch may have a slight edge: Outstanding in the Hybrid Position (Safety/Linebacker) and "Closer", What other kicker in the league has the ability to knock you out?

I think Keyshawn Johnson is the team MVP. He put his injured body on the line many games this season. If it wasn't for Key, where would many of our first downs come from? He really is our ownly good receiver.

12-24-2001, 12:07 PM
Sorry, Key would be Offensive MVP (if I could only read). I think Ronde Barber is Defensive MVP...no doubt about it!

Simeon Rice has been playing better in the last couple of weeks but I think that Barber is having a Pro-Bowl year.

Can we have a tie? While Mr. Barber is deserving because of stats, I think Mr. Lynch holds everything together on defense.

warren sapp is for the sure the mvp.... who the heck takes the balme for every single screw up he had nothing to do with, this defensive unit is still based around him regardless if he has 20 sacks or 3, every offensive line fears this guy... rhonde barber has looked so very impressive, but if he missed a tackle.. they still show sapp slamming his fists to the ground in frestration, not barber

Barber of course, Sapp was very unproductive this season, i think he has the most defensive mouth, so if there is an award for arrogance he should get it. But dont get me wrong, he is a great ball player, but barber gets my vote this year

I think the MVP defensive player would have to be Rhonde Barber!!! OMG I can't believe that man. He has really stepped his game up. I also think that John Lynch deserves it too! After he played kicker in the New Orlean Saints game and his Safety position too. They have both done an excellent job and hopefully even more will coem out of them!! GO # 20 & #47!!!!!

well, my vote goes to Rhonde Barber, and thats pretty good considering it's Thursday and not 20 minutes after the NO game, so im not high on love for Mr. Barber. i would've said Warren Sapp at the start of the year, but he does deserve credit for playing sensational in our biggest game of the year, against the team usually called the leagues best, the Rams, ON THE TRACK IN ST. LOUIS NO LESS. Rice and Lynch have both been good too. and my favorite moment was when Sheldon Quarles picked of Brett Farve in the redzone and ran it back for a TD i jumped up so fast i spilled pop and chips on the poodle, and it ran headfirst into the wall. my life's favorite moment. well, it might sound weird because i hate Philly but i hope they beat NYG this week, because that means they clinch the East and know they are the 3rd seed, so they'll be easy picking for the Bucs on Week 17 (not that they wouldn't be anyway http://64.159.85.249/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I am going to go against the wind and say that Warren Sapp is the MVP. He is everything that this team needs to be great. I live in St. Louis, and when I went to see the Bucs beat the Rams, I was watching Sapp alot. If he is not double-teamed he is triple-teamed on EVERY play. The fact that he has even one sack this year is incredible. His comments on sportscenter have been great too. How easy could it have been to say that Dungy sucks and he wants to play for St. Louis or Oakland or someone else next year. I think his loyalty and his ability to clog up the middle and allow the Defensive Ends to get sacks makes him the MVP of the Defense and the team.

I'm not sure about the Ravens. For the last 3 games their run-D has been doubtful, give more than 100 yards to Dillon, Fuamatu Ma'fala, and Alstott and Dunn doesn't convince me at all. Of course Dillon is great but knowing that the Bengals pass offense is one of the worse in the league, I'm very surprised they couldn't stop Dillon. Kordell Stewart, if this guy's named MVP, I'll throw my TV out the window. He is so bad he couldn't hit a grange door from 15 yards away. But I will say this, Pittsburgh just like the Falcons might come to realize that their original starter is not their best back. And the Bucs have struggled with the run all season long, so how come they can beat up the Ravens.
