View Full Version : Huge Trade Question

Ok. The situation is that there is a trade up right now between two teams. One is 5-4 and one is 3-6. The season is 14 games long with 10 teams in the league and a 2 week playoff with the top 4 teams. It's a head to head league and we break ties for playoff spots by whoever has the most points.

The trade is:
Alge Crumpler + Steve Smith + Reggie Wayne + Marcel Shipp + Moe Williams + Charlie Garner = Travis Henry

Now to get the whole picture, you should understand the team of each person involved in the trade.

The 5-4 team:

QB Brad Johnson
WR Randy Moss
WR Marvin Harrison
WR Steve Smith
RB Charlie Garner
RB Marcel Shipp
TE Freddie Jones
K Paul Edinger
D Tampa Bay

Bench Jon Kitna
Bench Reggie Wayne
Bench Moe Williams
Bench Michael Bennett
Bench Domanick Davis
Bench Alge Crumpler
Bench Willis McGahee

The 3-6 team:

QB Steve McNair
WR David Boston
WR Terry Glenn
WR Darnerian McCants
RB Troy Hambrick
RB Travis Henry
TE Doug Jolley
K Jeff Wilkins
D St.Louis

Bench Donovan McNabb
Bench Kevin Johnson
Bench Rod Smith
Bench Correll Buckhalter
Bench TJ Duckett
Bench Ernie Conwell
Bench New England

Now the 5-4 team alternates RBs based on matchups, a sort of RB by committee approach. The 3-6 team is weak at WR and has no real #2 RB. The 5-4 team needs a solid #1 RB. That's the essence of this trade.

I'm the commishioner of the league and the league is split over this trade. I figured I'd try to get some help on this board. Sorry if this bothers anyone or is deemed inappropriate. If you need any more information to decide if the trade is fair, just ask me and I'll give it to you.

Thanks for your help.
Dan

If I was commish I woulnd't let the trade go through. Too many payers going one and not enough going the other way. I'm a huge Fantasy player and I would not let this go through if I had the choice.

leave it alone, marcel shipp is picking up the pace. my league wouldn't allow a trade like that, I don't have enough roster spots.

You let a trade like this go through and you don't really have a league. Can't be more bogus.

This is the first year I've played FF. So, I'm curious - what's the reasoning behind not allowing a trade to go through? If both teams want to do it, why should the commish stand in the way?

Personally, if I was the 5-4 team, I wouldn't bother. Shipp has been playing well and Michael Bennett is going to start this week. Plus Steve Smith has been a good WR recently. I understand the 5-4 team is trying to deal a lot of back-ups for one more solid starter, but IMO, this trade makes the 5-4 team worse.

It really doesn't help the 3-6 team much either. Maybe a little. Smith and Wayne may be marginal improvements over Boston and McCants. Williams and Garner wouldn't play. Crumpler may be better than Jolly but neither will score many points playing with back-up QBs.

It's called collusion and if you keep playing you'll experience it yourself at some point. Especially later in the season when owners who are out of it (usually in more ways than one :) ) start making ridiculous trades or releasing starters to the distinct advantage of another owner.

It's why almost every league gives owners an opportunity to vote on trades and if enough say "no" then the trade is voided. The free Yahoo leagues even have a list of players that can't be released during the year to prevent wholesale dumping of players before the playoffs. I got screwed in one league that I drafted Vick in. He's just eating up a roster spot and I can't release him.

I'm a commissioner of a league. I think I would let the trade go through. The only question is what does the 5-4 team do about the 3rd WR? He won't have enough WRs it seems. My league does limit roster moves to 1 per week though. So unless other players went the other way, this trade would not be possible.

The 5-4 team is upgrading, while doing little to his starting lineup. He is giving up fair, but not more than that, players. He is only hurting his bench.

OK, I understand, but this trade doesn't seem like collusion to me. Personally I don't think this helps the 5-4 at all.
