i got a friend that i can never beat because ricky williams is pretty much unstoppable.
any defenses i can use to stop the run????
i get some success at going zone coverage... then using the play maker to jump the run after the snap.. but then he brakes tackles and is off. any good Ds hiding in the game to stop the run?

use a 4-6 then take control of your linebacker and keep him about 7 yards behind the line, this way if he runs you can stop him pretty quickly, and if he passes you can rush/blitz him for the sack.

I would say go 4-3, bring your d-line in tight and then spread your linebackers. If you have quick linebackers who have decent tackling ability you should be able to stop him. BTW, this should definetely work..I've been playing madden for years, and I'm probably one of the 25 best ever. Playmaker will really make or break you vs the run...but don't get fooled because if you do you'll pay for it.

Play your corners tight in zone. Try some outside blitzes and pinch your line in. Pretty much the same thing that bucmonkey said.

Play 3-4 with fast linebackers that tackle well. Steelers are perfect at stopping the run.

If you want to stop the run,
don't be Tampa Bay.

I stop the run pretty effectively as Tampa Bay. Matter of fact I use pass coverage ALL the time because I stop the run so well. Although if I don't call nickel or dime most of them then I am highly capable of getting beat deep.
In a full season on All-Madden in the first year I started the franchise I only gave up 700 and something rushing yards.

I played a season with the bucs and at the end of the year the total running offense against me was -734yds :D .

Its also really hard to stop the run against a user. i have a friend I play against and he SUCKS but he still gets like 6 yds a carry against me.

1st) What difficulty?
2nd) How many Madden cards did you use?
3) How many of the players on your team were not created players?

The best way to stop the run is to put up points fast and make em throw against you.

Works well against the game but a decent human player would continue to use the run.

You have to establish a solid running game IMO.

Oh, and btw, on another serious note, I have been playing football for years myself (not the Madden series though, NFL 2k series), and i have found that not only pinching the DL and spreading the LBs work, but Ihave found this to work (if you have good DL)....
spread D-line
pinch LBs
Bring closer the DBs.....
I have found that to work REALLY well.
Also, I would never call more than a one man blitz (if you're in goal line)......or, if you do call more than that, make sure everyone is covered except the RB. The RB has never beat me, but the TE has, when he is uncovered.....

That is because the computer sucks...I had it on all madden and I ended the year with 200 something rushing yards on my defense...The game is too easy.

Have a goal line run stuff in your audibles if you're positve he's going to run-audible quickly while distracting him.Don't forget to strip the ball!!!

IMO too risky, if its play-action you'll get burned
