It's called pre-order. You can buy the game right now from any number of retailers and just walk in the day of, or evening before and pick up your copy. Gamestop normally does a good job of calling to let you know if the shipment is coming in earlier than the official release date.

for 40 dollars? why 10 bucks cheaper than normal? and don't some places make you pay like 10 dollars extra to pre-order? i think EB does.

I usually wait until the prices come down...

I'll go rent it from blockbuster from time to time.. but I'll probably own Madden 2k5 about the time Madden 2k7 is coming out...

I've never heard of a game store charging you extra to pre-order. Most stores encourage preordering so that they know exactly how many copies in addition to the stores normal stock. Pre-ordering prevents stores from odering too many titles or too little. Normally you pay the retail price of the game. I just noticed that Amazon has it priced at 40 dollars which is well below what madden normally cost. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I remember when I was at EB at the mall, like a week before NBA street volume 2 came out, and a sign by the cover/cardboard case of the games said, pre-order now for 10 dollars. I think it said that.

:D
The $10 goes towards the final cost of the game, it's not an additional fee. Basically you need $10 to reserve your copy and you can pay the rest ($39.00) before release or when you come back to get your copy. I normally reserve a copy at Gamestop in June and just pay $10 dollars every two weeks until I pay it off or the game is released, whichever comes first.

No problem...ESPN's presentation is going to be very hot this year. I hope Madden took note from last year...;)

Does Amazon get you on the s&h?? If so that could be the difference in the price. I usually get mine at Sams club. They always have new releases for $44.
