Ok I would consider myself to be an above average Madden player....however since my roommate has gotten more into Madden he has been playing a lot the last year and he has this play that he uses from a 3 WR set and he is killing me with the 3rd WR and i can shut that guy down but when i do he just dumps it off to the tight end. This forces me to have to play the pass the entire game allowing him more room in the running game. Its really getting quite frustrating cause i have not been able to beat him in like a week. I ALWAYS used to win 5 out of 6 times and now i cant even come within 14 points when the game ends. Its all from this formation he has learned how to use. Do any of you know how to stop this? :frownretr
I rally cant stand loosing to him since we both talk so much ****. PLEASE HELP.
http://www.monsterden.net/madden/singleback3wr this is a link to what the formation looks like.
PS i can never remember a time when i have not been able to over come another palyers style of play and eventually learn to shut it down so im baffeld at this point.

I'd do Nickel, Man-2, put the line in the wide pass rush and double the TE with the SS (I think it's triangle, the TE button, left arrow). Also experiment with having the CBs play closer to the line, knocking him off timing passes. Alternate the TE double with the slot WR double. Double both, double neither. Just keep him guessing. You could also go straight to dime is you're good at run defense andcan sense the likely direction (shifting your DL play or location). This would allow a DB to go against the TE. The tackling isn't giving up that much considering you increase speed and coverage.
Zone blitzes may work. Doubt it, though. Hate playing zone against a human.

What player do you control on D? A LB or DB I hope, if your usin a DL stop. Grab a hold of a LB/DB and jump his routes.
You might need a team with better CB's. Usually if your 3rd CB isn't as good as their 3rd WR, its difficult to shut him down, you could also rotate your CB's to a strong package and use your #1 or #2 CB to cover his #3 WR.
As for the TE, just keep a LB on him. If his plays go all over the field, use a cover 3, if they go to mainly one side, use a man coverage. Either way, you need to use a LB/DB to cover atleast one of the routes yourself.
There's 2 plays in the cover 2 nickle package where you can blitz both lb's and and everyone else does man coverage. Usually, I'll take the S covering the RB and put him on a deep zone (so it makes the play a cover 1) and let everyone else man. Make sure you take the other S and make him bump and run w/the TE. Actually, make sure all of your guys do press coverage, that way the blitzers get time to penetrate the line.
The main thing is to make sure your not controling a DL, use a LB/DB. Once you're using one of those, try noticing paterns in his play calling and also get familiar with his plays. When you see certain formations on his O, you will start to know where the ball can go (which WR's get open and which one's don't).
What teams are you guys using? Also, what playbooks are you guys using?
p.s. In that 3 WR 1 TE 1 RB set he's using, you can use a 4-3 or a Nickle package. If your LB's aren't fast enough than the 4-3 won't be very good on Man coverage and it will be better on Zone. In the Nickle, if your 3rd CB sucks, take a backup S (if he's better) and make him your #3 or #4 CB. Usually they can hit harder and take on RB's better than CB's.
You could also try using the Dime package w/LB's instead of CB's. I use the Cover 2 playbook so this all comes from there.

Im using the Bucs and he has been using the Titans. When he uses other teamsn its a bit easier but Calco is ****ing killing me.
I use a DB or LB. IMHO when playing humans you should never use a DL...however against the CPU im always playing with a DL.
See im using a lot of nickel and dime coverage’s as well as B8ump and run stuff. What really ****es me off is that i no what he is going to do and cant stop it....i know what plays he is using and i know more than likely when he is going to use them. To be honest its rather hard to explain why he has had so much success the last week or so. I figured that i might have to look at creating my own playbook both O and D cause i think a big part as that he has learned my style of play and maybe knows some weaknesses i have that am unaware about. Who knows maybee im just not as good as i thought. I doubt it since noone but him even comes close to me and we all are every day players.

Put Kelly on Calico and take control of a LB to cover the TE. The only problem beyond that is McNair can take off.. so that blitz play i told you wouldnt work well if he knows how to use a scrambling qb..
You could use the Eagles, Ravens, or Patriots to beat his Titans. Unfortunately, the Bucs are rated horribly on that game unless you are using an imported franchise team.

I will try that.....one thing i did in order to keep up offensivly was creat my own playbook yesterday and i made one with a lot of crazy formations and was able to beat him twice last night once in overtime and the other on a last minute field goal....however on that one he almost got down there on a big play to Calico but had no time outs and the clock ran out on him as he was attempting to kick a game winning field goal from the 22 yard line.

Try this formation:
Go to 46 bear, use outside blitz for 3 WR Sets, and Inside Blitz for 2 WR or less sets.
This brings Derrick Brooks and Simeon Rice from each side, and you usally will get a sack, and if the play does break down the guy will catch it for like 8 yards.
If you use the inside blitz it's more to stop the run, Ian Gold and Booger McFarland break through the line on this.
If i loose a madden game it's because the other guy is shutting down my offense.
Last 3 games i played:
Won 20-0
Won 10-0
Lost 10-3
I need to work on My Buccaneer Offense!! ;)

well for me what always works is blitzing the hell out of a player if u have speedy cornerbacks i use the cornerback blitz out of the nickle and quarter formations it doesnt matter who your roommate is using just blitz his *** the whole game ppl have a hard time scoring on me that way i also throw in some coverage packages to keep ppl off balance but i rarely find myself scored on if i do its usually a long play where my corner or saftey miss a tackle but it will keep u ina game my coverages are the velcro and cover 3 schemes out of the quarter and nickle formation i usually use green bay when i play but these formations can be found on other teams as well, what will tend to happen is ill blitz on 1st down drop into coverage on second forcing a 3rd and long and blitz on 3rd down and i switch it up depending on down and distance i have used this formula for yrs with all the maddens and it works great for me......im not saying ull not be scored on but it will keep the other guy from getting in a groove, also use the zone blitz i tend to get alot of picks out of that formation i think the zone blitze is in the quarters package as well, when u use the corner blitz packages dont control them let the cpu do that for u and use your d. tackle

Basically this is your answer. Don't play man coverage. I played with man coverage in Madden and ALL my friends killed me. I play zone coverage only now and I just keep switching the types of zones I play.
Blitz often but make sure it is a zone blitz. Force him to throw quickly and that is when you are going to get A LOT of interception.s Trust me.

If you don't feel like blitzing, try coverage swaps switching a stronger CB over to the third receiver jump the TE's routes with the LB. If you play as the Bucs, most likely whichever LB you're using will be able to cover the TE. The only problem with this is you have to worry about deep in routes from the 1 and 2 WR. Also, there is a play where the safety hovers the TE, and you can utilize that play to send double coverage on the TE while having a better CB cover the 3rd WR.
In my opinion, zone is one of the worst defensive schemes in Madden. While it gets you more interceptions than the man defense, the percentage that your blitz will reach the QB and your zone is still able to cover the receivers is very low. Most likey if you play zone, the opponent will hot route to curls, or if they have a speedy outside WR, a fly route on the outside. INT's aren't everything on defense; passes batted down to force fourth downs are just as effective.

I think since you use the Bucs use the 46 D. Go to 46Normal and put in the speed package by hitting the circle before you select the Defense. This brings in more DB's with speed and press everyone. The D is intimidating and you can do alot of good blitz's from this package. Good Luck and remember this is only my opinion but it works for me. Just look at Madden online you will see my name there.

Ya i tried this after i started this thread a while back and now thatim using zone and mixing the zones up its been alot better. But what ends up happening is i just have to allways make him think about the blitz from anywhere on the field. Doing that he tends to try and force it or hits a button trying to avoide the sack and thats when i pick it off. its stil a high scoring game but its forcing him to play catchup up a large part of the game. The 2-3 picks are always the diffrence.

What I would do is run a Dime formation and run the "2 man under play"
And use the right analog stick to the Right on both of the safeties. and they'll be covering their side in zone. and make the middle linebacker blitz by pressing down on the analog stick.
I did it once on all pro against the falcons and I had like 5 interceptions

ok heres what you do.Use 2 man under. Then take the safeties and just double or triple him.
if the out side corners are not getting burnt u should be fine.
Or
Use 2 man under and blitz an outside corner but double him with a safety, the corner might not be picked up then there goes a pick!

Is this madden 2005? If it is the answer is easy. Just double the TE with your saftey and do bump-and-run. To do that just pick a play that has the saftey in a deep zone with man coverage everywhere else. Then press X(or whatever TE buttons number is) then press right(that will double the TE). Then press X(TE Button) and down(that will bump the TE). It works everytime!
