Anyone else got it, or getting it?
I couldn't wait for Santa, so the Mrs. grabbed it for me yesterday. Finishing the install now.
It's supposed to be quite the game.

It looks to be pretty good.....although how's the online play?....that's the main thing I'm looking for.

Haven't tried online.
I only have a couple complaints about the game.
1. sometimes you get a little studder, it's not too bad, but it is a little annoying...they are promising a patch to fix this soon. (it usually happens after a load, which brings me to complaint #2.)
2. Loads, too many of them, and they take too long. It also takes forever to load the game, and Steam wants to "verify my game files" every time I try to play, which takes about 5 minutes....

So far... wow. Great game. I'm now stuck in a elevator shaft trying to stack things to get to the ladder. I've tried like 4 times with no luck.
Agree with the loads... too many, and they suck. I did manage to find a great tweak-guide for those having issues with what is being called 'stuttering'.

Anyhow, I've not played the HL2 online yet, but I am enjoying the Counter Strike: Source, which is included.
Good stuff indeed...

great game. hl2 itself doesn't have a multiplayer mode but comes with counter strike:source, which is an updated version of counter strike using the same technology that hl2 uses, which is a pretty sweet game. i'm sure pretty shortly some mods will come out with hl2 deathmatch and such though, only a matter of time.

Yeah, I've been junking out bad on the CS:Source. I saw that I was already 6 or 8 chapters through HL2, so I'm backing off it for a bit... want it to last.
Just loving CS:Source, though.
A ton of fun.

I'm JohnnyMonkey on CS:S. I filter for servers <150 that have players and are not full.
Still a n00b too, but sometimes I don't do so bad for an old fart.

Sweet!!!!
I'm looking really forward to that. That must've been the surprise that the Steampowered news was talking about.

HL2 will be for me what HL1 was. The game engine to play CounterStrike.
I got through about 5 minutes of the first Half Life, before I downloaded CounterStrike, and never went back.
Then I lost them both, and decided to just play Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's free, no major map changes to download, and generally no cheaters.

Notes on the Half-Life 2: Deathmatch release
December 1, 2004, 3:50 pm · valve
Last night at about 9:00 PST, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch was released. Earlier today there were about 12,000 simultaneous HL2DM players. People seem to have gotten the hang of tossing toilets and radiators and cars at each other pretty quickly.
Immediately after the release of HL2DM last night, users who run Source Engine games (including Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source) under DirectX 7 or who run with less than the recommended amount of RAM were affected by a game crash. This caused them to be unable to run HL2 or CS:S for a short time. Shortly after midnight PST, we released a fix which cleared the problem up.
We're planning a small dedicated server release soon to improve weapon re-spawn behavior.
Also, If you're handy with Hammer (Valve's level editor), be sure to enter the HL2DM map contest.
We hope everyone's enjoying the game.
