I've had a new fantasy idea floating in my head for awhile and I've also been doing the mock fantasy draft and seen some of you asking about getting in a real league. My idea is for an all-out NFL style league with salary cap, free agency, and seperate rookie draft. Here's a rough overview...
-Entry Draft with player salaries being determined by round they were drafted or last year's production, its open for discussion. (This year's rookies will be included in this entry draft, kind of like the fantasy draft on Madden)
-Players have contracts, either 1, 2, or 3 year deals. I would like it to be based on production. An example is a player like Manning will get a 3 year deal and a guy like Alstott will have a 1 year deal. There are cap hits.
-Players who's contracts expire in the league will be free agents, and there will be a bidding process. (Thats where the cap comes into play)
-Rookie Draft- Around this time of year there will be a rookie draft, order based on standings, exactly like the NFL.

This league would require year round participation. Exactly like NFL. Maybe we can even have Franchise Players too. Everything is open for discussion.

How many teams?
Would there be penalties for releasing a player? Like maybe 1/3 his salary stays for the rest of his contract or something?
I know they have salary cap FF leagues out there and I've been considering trying one. Might want to look at some of the stuff they do? Maybe even see if there is a free one where they already have some rules perhaps?

Not sure about doing salary based on when you draft people? I would like to see other ideas for that.

Also, can you trade draft picks for players? How about getting the right to resign your own FA or have a franchise tag maybe?

Just some ideas. I would like to try it though if you can get it going and enough people. Check Yahoo to see if they have something for this.

Yes, there would be trades and cap hits.

Yes, there's a fantasy draft. The draft order would be decided randomly somehow. We can decide on that when we get enough people.

basically you get points for what the people you started do

something like
20 yards rushing = 1 point
20 yards recieving = 1 point
40 yards throwing = 1 point
touchdown = 6 points
extra point = 1 point
turnover = -2 for the person who turned it over, 2 points for the defense that got the turnover

so lets say Clayton catches for 109 yards, has 19 yards rushing, and 1 touchdown in a game and you stared him
109 = 5 points
touchdown = 6 points
19 rushing = 0 points (because didn't get to 20)

then that week he woul of gotten you 11 points

Ok, thats 8 so far. I'm looking to get between 10 and 14. But if you guys want more than that, that's cool with me. When we get the set number of people then we'll have to start talking about the rules and how we'll determine the salaries.

I would suggest to give the the top 3 players in each category (QB,RB,WR,TE,K,D) a certain salary and then give the rest of the top 10 about 20% less salary and so on. It would take too much time to decide what each individual player's salary should be.

Or we could use all the caphits of Madden 2005.

We also have to decide on what the cap will be.

I want to play with the Chargers btw. :D

Here's what I think would work for the scoring.
Starting lineup
QB
RB
RB
WR
WR
WR
TE
K
D

Passing TD- 6 points Passing 2 pt conversion - 2 points
Rushing TD- 6 points Rushing 2 pt conversion- 2 points
Receiving TD- 6 points Receiving 2 pt conversion- 2 points

20 yards passing- 1 point (.05 per yard)
10 yards rushing/rec- 1 point (.1 per yard)

FG- 3 points
XP- 1 point

Defense-
0-2 points allowed- 20 points
3-10 points allowed - 10 points
11-20 points allowed- 5 points
TD- 6 points
Sack- 1 point
INT/Fumble Rec- 3 points
Safety- 4 points

oh ya, id like to join also

buc-fanatic

oh and on the kicking thing how about something like:
FG made:
under 20: 1 point
21-30:2 points
31-40: 3 points
41-50: 4 points
51-60: 5 Points
61+: 6 points

FG missed:
61+: -0 points
51-60: -1 point
41-50: -2 points
31-40: - 3 points
21-30: -4 points
under 20: -5 points

this way a better kicker is rewarded more.

Also on defense a blocked kick/punt should get points (maybe like 4-6)
and Offenses should lose points for turnovers and sacks like:
INT thrown: -4 points
Fumbles: -2 points
Fumbles lost: - 2 points
Sack: - 1 point

I thought about taking away points for missed field goals but sometimes there are situations when it's not fair. For example at the end of a half, when a kicker comes in to try a kick from 55+, or when a defender comes through clean and blocks the kick. You can throw quarterbacks into this mix too. If they throw a hail mary at the end of the half and it gets picked off I dont't think they should be penalized. And what if the WR drops the ball and it gets picked off, I dont think it's fair to lose points on something like that. Losing points for fumbles can be put in, I don't have a problem with that, we'll see what everyone wants. I think it's a great idea to give the Defense points for blocked kicks.

Pantera Canes

I don't think it would be good to have minus points for missed field goals

Also, I like the standard
-2 for int thrown
-2 for lost fumble

also not sure on the sack, you could say at that point that the line gave up the sack or the RB missed a blitz block or the QB held the ball too long. too many places to blame a sack on

OK guys, we got 10. This is enough to start the league, but I would still like to get more. The cool thing about this style league is that we can always bring in expansion teams. We have to decide how the player's salaries will be determined. Right now the 2 choices are 1. 2004 Stats, or 2. Salary based on when drafted. I think #2 is the best way to do it for our 1st season because of the rookies, they dont have any 2004 stats. So the #1 overall pick would have the highest salary, and the next player would be lower and so on and so on. What do you guys think.

An auction draft would be the best way to go, but yahoo doesn't offer that and I'm assuming everyone here is looking to play for free, so assigning dollar values by pick is the best way to go. I guess I'm in.
