Anyone play this game or this style game? What "style" player are you, conquer the world with the military or go for the most advancements and build the most wonders? What people do you usually play as........Americans,Romans,Japanese?

I played the series it since I bought my first PC. Can't wait for Civ IV to come out at the end of this year.

I do not always play the same country, instead I let the AI randomly pick one for me, that's more fun. The only thing I really dislike is that you never can live in peace throughout the whole game, and thus have a better shot at the diplomacy victory or space victory. There are always some hostile neighbors (mostly the chinese, germans, mongols or brits) that make you pay for not being war-ready.

Civ II is, in my mind, the greatest computer game ever made. I did once *almost* make it all the way through a game without being involved in any armed conflict at all. Then the bleepity Indians sacked one of my cities (one of my wonder producers none the less), so I had to wipe them off of the face of the planet. Which made me very sad, but it had to be done. :p

Personally, I play as either the Americans, English, Greeks, Romans, Celts, or Persians. But I believe I'v played as most of them. Civ 2 is the best, not to say that civ 3 isn't good. I have gone through Civ 3 without ever going to war. In Civ 2, however, some other nation always comes in a steals my technology, which irritates me to no end, I have to end up laying the wood down on them, not fully, but enough to cripple them. It is a very good series and I cannot wait for Civ 4 later this year. As I read the features on the game from ign.com, it makes me want it even more.

Wow. I'm out of touch. I didn't know there was a Civ III. Of course, a lot of that has to do with Civ II (especially with the add-on pack - Alien Invasion mission rocked) being a great game.

Generally speaking, I'm a build the Wonders player. Going on rampages always slows down your growth and rarely results in positive domination. You always end up just extending the fight. Nah, build the phalanxes until gunpowder and conscription. then Leonardo's workshop takes care of the rest. The Wonders cut your production down so much you can go on the rampage with tanks and fighters while others are still getting gunpowder.

Favorite tactic. Spy plants nuke, parachute guys around the city and then on inside the city. Keeps the partisans away from the immediate squares and they disperse or die fighting. Another tactic is to parashute onto the tougher terrain, leaving the partisans the open fields with no natural defense.

Dang.............I just bought it like 2 months ago. Have spent massive hours playing it. How much time do you guys spend(at 1 sitting)playing a game like this? Also have you guys "won" in the allotted turns. I think it goes to like 540 turns though i think you can set it to 1000. I haven't done this yet,I always play it past that point. Civ II was cool but I like this one better. Never got(or knew they had)expansion packs for Civ II. I am so outa touch with gaming...........lol.

I haven't played in a while, but it takes me days to beat it. I have heard that some people can beat it in a couple of hours but would love to see their strategy.
