I got this one off of Game Spot. Great website to check out if you haven't.

Now the rumor is that PS3 will launch at under $370, which is pretty close to the launch price for PS and PS2. That is hopeful news for me as I try and make my Next Gen decision. I've always been a PS guy but haven't made up my decision, but I'm always a PS guy at heart.

PS3 to have same launch price as PS2?

Report says Sony will price the PS3 under 40,000 yen, raising speculation that it might launch at the same price as its previous two consoles.
Last week, the Mainichi Daily News quoted Sony Computer Entertainment officials as saying the PlayStation 3 would be priced at under 50,000 yen ($465.58). Now it appears that the console may be even cheaper when it goes on sale next year.

Today, Japanese Web site Impress PC Watch reported that SCE has told its business partners that the PS3 will be under 40,000 yen ($370) at launch. The news has spurred speculation that the company might launch the machine with the same price it set for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Both machines were priced at 39,800 yen ($368) when they launched in 1994 and 2000, respectively.

Sony's PS3 will be competing with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Revolution in the next-generation console wars. When it launched in Japan in 2002, Microsoft's current-generation Xbox was priced at 34,800 yen ($322). The company has been shaving down the console's cost since then, and it currently sells at 17,640 yen ($163).

Nintendo's GameCube made its debut in 2001 at 25,000 yen ($231)--the lowest launch price of the three current-generation home consoles. The GameCube continues to be the lowest priced console on the market, currently marked down to 14,000 yen ($130). Nintendo has never priced any of its past consoles higher than 25,000 yen at launch, which could well be the same case for the Revolution. During E3, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that he hopes to "keep the Revolution at a price range that anyone can reach out for, and nothing as high as 50,000 yen ($463)."

I will be shocked if it retails here in the US for more than $350.

I can even handle that. I think that was close to what I paid when PS2 first came out. It was the potential $500 price tag that was freaking me out.

It can be from 299 to 499. It depends really on how much profit Sony wants to make off of this console alone.

I hope they don't have many bugs when they come out like the ps2 and xbox did.

Good point. It really doesnt matter how much they will charge, i just want to make sure that when i buy it i dont have to worry about any kind of bugs and having to send it in or get another one.

I just can't decide between the two, I'm really on the fence. I think, like many have already mentioned here, that I am going to wait till they are both out for awhile, read the reviews, wait for the bugs to be fixed, and then make my decision.

With Blue Ray being the format now, dont be surprised if the games be 70-80 dollars each.

they could price these things at 500 and people are still going to buy them. now they may not be happy with that price but im sure there are enough die-hard gamers out there who would be willing to go a couple weeks without food to get the new system....

I hope its somewhat decent of a price...if its 500 bucks I wont be getting it for a while. Actually I'm still debating if I should get a PS3 or a revaloution. I've always been a big fan of Mario and Sonic so if its cheaper I think I'll go with Nintendo.

well, im going to get a PS 3 anyway i can. but that mostly is going to require me to wait a few months after its release, or hope my bro gets it and we can bet on it like my xbox. but i doubt he will do that again so i guess i have to wait for it drop in price if its 500 dollars. it doesnt bug me, i could just say forget the PS 3 and get a new computer too, i am going to need one within the next year or two anyways.

my only dilema with PS3 is the release date... i want to get the xbox 360 if sony plans on delaying it like everything else. plus i dont think i can wait that long to play madden on a next gen console...

This is not true. Continue to buy into the PS3 hype if you'd like, but its a poorly architected system. They just threw as much processing at it as they could and hope it will be enough. Sony's push right now is to put enough FUD out there (giving MS a taste of their own medicine) to get you to wait until the PS3 is ready.

If nintendo did, they wouldnt sell anything. Nintendos target market is kids, and parents arent going to spend $500 on a game for their kids. Teenage males on the other hand will pay anything Sony/Microsoft want.

As for X-Box vs PS3, id have to say every review ive read and everything i have seen has said PS3 is far superior. I have always been a Sony fan over X-Box because the controllers are WAY better, and there was more quality platform specific games. Halo is a GREAT game, but other than that, why buy an X-box when i can get every other game I want for PS2 as well? ISony has way better RPG's than X-Box (because of Square-Enix) they have the Grand Theft Auto games long before the other systems. The only other games i play are sports (football, hockey and soccer), which are for all 3 systems. Ill just "suffer" through playing SOCOM instead of Halo thank you.
