View Full Version : Keeper League

I had a post about an NFL style keeper league but its gone now. We had about 10 people. But I just created a Yahoo Fantasy League for the Board. This league will be a keeper league, you can keep 3 players every year. The draft will be on the board. There can even be trades during the draft, as long as the number of draft picks traded are equal (2 picks for 2 picks, or 4 picks for 4 picks). The roster is QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, D with 10 bench spots. The scoring is pretty standard. So if anyone wants in let me know and I'll write down the names.

ThanksBrad

And why no negative points? There should be some penalty for fumbles lost and ints thrown. Just a thought, but I am in either way.

The draft will be on the league message board. There are a few reasons for this. The Yahoo Live Online draft is extremely flawed. Alot of players are missing from the database. Sometimes it lags and causes problems. And the last draft I did in the Yahoo draft room, I wasn't able to scroll down when searching for players and therefore I couldn't draft who I wanted. Drafting on the message board will allow everyone to make their picks. If the draft is at a specific time then some people wont be able to make it, or someone having a CPU problem could hold everyone up. I guess we can start drafting when everyone is ready. The order will be decided randomly, I'll pick names out of a hat.

And I didn't put in negative points because I'm not a fan of it. There are interceptions on hail mary's at the end of the half, or on 3rd and long at mid field that really don't matter. But if the majority of the league wants negative points I'll put them in.

Lets wait and draft when preseason comes around, no point in doing it now...

Pre-season exposes sleepers. Draft will be before Pre-season starts.

Smart man here. Me likey.

I like drafting before the Pre-Season. Like Grind said, Pre-Season exposes Sleepers and they wind up going higher in the Drafts. Drafts taking place now, you'll be able to draft potential sleepers anywhere you'd like. Last year, you could have wound up drafting Ricky Williams, but I like that gambling side to Fantasy Football. Last year, my big Sleeper was Antonio Gates. I grabbed him in the 12th-14th Round at every opportunity. It paid off! :D

Im sure the people who drafted guys like Vick, Pennington, and David Boston in the past few seasons would agree with you. Every year, at least one first rounder goes down. But hey, if you want to draft now, fine, I'm all for it. Just as long as its your first round pick who goes down and not mine...

That would be alright. Good Fantasy Owners can overcome that. Sure, it would be difficult, but it's not totally out of the question. I just think Drafting early makes things a little more interesting. You go on your gut and instincts instead of watching the Pre-Season games. Plus, you have more time to scout the Waiver Wire and make trades.

The Yahoo Live Online draft is extremely flawed.

Drafting on the message board will allow everyone to make their picks.

Whoa whoa. Are you sure about this? Having it on the league board is extremely flawed. I've been a part of some that didn't go the online route and it's painfully slow. Some people don't show up, and that slows everything down. At least in the live draft if you can't be there, you can at least pre-rank your players. Would there be a time limit to make a pick? Would I keep having to refresh the league page every minute to see who gets picked? Do you know how much longer this is going to take than a live draft? Honestly, I think we should go the live route. I, and many others, haven't had a problem with Yahoo's online draft. It's a pretty popular way to go with only a few problems every now and again. Also, if you just show up, that would take care of the players not in Yahoo's database. If someone wants a player like Alex Smith who isn't in their database yet, they can just tell you, pick a random player, and basically have "rights" to him whenever Yahoo enters him in.

I just want to make sure you think this is the best way to go. Because I'd much rather have a draft that lasts 2 hours than one that lasts however many days it will take to complete.

The Draft doesnt have to be at a specific time, it's a rolling draft. We have people from all over the country and the world (Netherlands). One pick can be at 12 noon, and the next pick could be at 12:01 or 6 hours later, whenever the person can make the pick.

I know rolling drafts take a long time but I think it's the best way to go. I'd hate to see someone get kicked offline while doing the live draft.

Live drafts are much more fun also. Can we take a league vote on it? Cause I personally think a draft on the board will take weeks to get finished, especially if we have 20 teams going. And what if someone get suspended during the draft? That could cause major problems.

Thats the point. I mean, assume each person takes an average of 2 hours to make a pick. You looking at a draft thats going to last 3 weeks. And thats with just the 13 teams we have now and not the 20 limit. I don't know about you, but I don't want to commit that type of time to something that can be knocked out in 2 hours.

Yes, but again Yahoo is usually pretty good when it comes to this. I am among man, many, many people who haven't had a problem drafting on Yahoo. Also, if there is pre-ranking could be used to lessen the blow. A rolling draft might be the worst possible way to go. I don't think a lot of people are going to want to check the league every day to see if they have to pick or just to see whos been picked. And when people start missing picks(and it will happen), thats when this thing gets stretched out FOREVER and people start losing interest.

My biggest concern about a rolling draft on the board is keeping track of who's still available. By the time we get into the 7th and 8th (80-96 picks) rounds it's going to be very hard to determine which players are still on the board.

Offline drafts arin't really drafts. Just a metter of grabbing the best player while you can
