Help! I'm scared. Who do I pick?
The pre-draft rankings have LT at 1 and Manning at 2.

Manning, no contest.
The guy is gonna get at least another 40 touchdowns this year.

I agree with you, but if Brees continues his breakout, LT is gonna get a lot more freedom than he has done in past seasons.

Speaking as a guy who's been playing fantasy football since you were a gleam in your dad's eye (no offense)...
You really can't take Manning #1. You need to take a runner, and that runner should be Tomlinson. You can't win in fantasy football without two dependable running backs. If you're in a league of 12 or more, you better believe all the sure things backs will be gone before you get another chance to pick. So while Manning may outscore the next best Quarterback by a fair margin (but not all that much - a few fantasy points more a game than Culpepper, for example), if you take him you'll be hanging our hopes on guys like Kevan Barlow at running back. Not good. Take Tomlinson. When the draft comes around, take a young runner with upside with one of your back to back picks, and use the other one on a dependable wide out. You can get a quarterback in the 6th round that will score just as many points as the guy taken in the 2nd round. You'll thank me later.

I've never been in a fantasy league with more than 10 people, where it's possible to get a good runner in the second, plus I've just started playing like two years ago.
Take Leeroy's advice bro, the guy knows football.

Leeroy has given you some very good advice. I ehco his sentiments. Take LT in a heart beat.

I used a very similar strategy last year and got burned because for some reason everyone took QBs in the first two rounds but me...I had a great RB and WR corps until injuries came around.

D'oh! Just as I was about to decide on Tomlinson!
Anyone else want to comment?

Way to early for drafting a FF team. Injuries and starters losing their jobs will screw you up(not you per se)every time. iMO

Just to make sure, does your league require you to start two running backs each week? Presuming it does (and most do), Leeroy is spot on. Running backs would be at a premium either way, but having to double up on them, well, there just aren't all that many decent running backs in the league.

Gald to see L.T is #1 this year. I thought it was cazy that he was behind Holmes last year.

Crazy? The man is a touchdown machine. TD's = HUGE points.
He was rightfully so the first pick. This year it will be much different though...

That's what I was thinking.
Unless you're playing with some morons, all the teams should be solid if you only have 10.
Still, drafting this early? Man, that's desparation.

I would've rather have seen some sort of TC before drafting but I am in the minority I s'pose. We have 20 teams so drafting is pretty important to those guys. I took scrubs last year and still won the Championship. :D The other 2 leagues I am in are drafting around Aug 15th. That makes a tad more sense to me.

I like your recieving core.
I've tried the fill up on backs strategy before. Then you always get those breakout backs that nobody drafted who get picked up and you are screwed. Then again it happens at all positions. Just seems like RB it happens more often.
If Payton can do anything close to last year he should be number one pick though in my opinion. I'm sick of having to play against him in leagues. :p

Okay... so you draft in mid-June and do what? Stare at your roster for 2 1/2 months???
Does anyone think about training camp or pre-season game injuries? :hiya:
Look at all the people that drafted Ricky Willimas in June last year.
y'all needta chill.

That's the way we do it every year. Why people would even considering drafting now is beyond me. Mock drafts are fine. But to actually pick your team right now? What's the sense in that?

How in the world are people starting training camp now. Teams have not even began training camp yet. Alot can happen between now and then, trades, cuts, injuries etc.

That's true. I took Tomlinson last year with the first pick in the draft. But I faced the team that had Manning in the final and my team won. I had Marc Bulger and Bulger outscored Manning that particular week. Also Tomlinson was far superior to any back the Manning team had.
Fantasy is all about matchups anyway. I rarely start the same guys each week. I look at what guys are facing a weak defense and start them.
Manning or Tomlinson? You can't lose picking either one in my opinion.

Well spoken.
Thanks. I've been in this big money keeper league for years now. I won't get into details, but I will say this - four figure entry fees, five figure prize for the champ, and jack for the other nine guys. No joke. And I'm a lower-middle class guy, so that's a TON of money (I usually save year round for it). Point is, I'd better know my basics, and in leagues of ten or more, if you're picking in the top two or three, you'd darn well better take a runner. You can have great receivers and Peyton Manning at QB, but if you can't count on 35 carries a week from your two starting RBs (and a 3rd who can do the same), you may compete, but you will not win. Period. In 17 years or so of fantasy ball, I've NEVER seen the "two RB rule" broken.

3 years ago I almost broke it. I had Ahman Green at RB along with Harrison, Randy Moss and David Boston at WR(the year Boston went bonkers). I only had one loss for the entire Season. And then, I got absolutely crushed in the 1st Round of the Playoffs. Thanks in part to Randy Moss putting up some terrible #'s that round. Since then, I always make sure to draft at least 2 RB's within my 1st 3 picks almost everytime.

You must be talking about 2001 - I had Boston that year too. Made it to the finals behind him and Kurt Warner. That's funny, that's probably the closest I've ever come to breaking that rule myself.
