However, it is currently not possible to connect to Xbox Live using AOL High-Speed Broadband cable service. Please contact AOL High-Speed Broadband for more information and updates about this issue.

I guess I don't understand this. I didn't read the article maybe someone can explain to me instaed.
AOL is a Internet Service Provider
Brighthouse/Comcast et al. are Cable providers.
In my case...Earthlink is my ISP...but Brighthouse is my cable provider and provides me an IP. I have internet connectivity without signing into Earthlink
shouldn't this be the same scenario as AOL? And if so then why is there a problem with connectivity.

You mean me?? Aol Broadband is NOT compatable with XBOX LIVE or Ps2 on line.
You can get on with DSL AOL though, but i dont got that.

This makes no sense. AOL Broadband encompasses Cable and DSL. So why should DSL work and not Cable (not doubting you, I read the article)? You should be able to have Internet connectivity without ever negotiating a connection through AOL. Now, with all that being said once you log into AOL all this is moot because now you are operating through AOL's proxyservers, where they have more control over the content you view.
AOL sucks anyway....any self respecting computer person will tell you this. If you have this issue you should move to a real ISP ASAP. Just my 2
