Can Crennel and Savage afford to trade down?

Romeo Crennel was a great defensive coordinator, and has done well as HC, but the truth is that if his team plays the same way they did last year, him and GM Phil Savage are probably going to be fired.

So, if Russel goes #1 and Thomas goes #2, the Browns would probably by eyeing Peterson. They could take Quinn, but I doubt they'd try to risk their jobs on a rookie QB's shoulders. Getting Peterson and establishing a solid run game would probably be the answer (McGhee is out there, but again, I don't see them putting their jobs on the shoulders of an injury-prone RB and what would probably have to be a re-built offensive line).

So, the bottom line question seems to be, can they risk trading down and still getting Peterson or is there another way they can become successful this season?

As for trading down-- if they traded w/ Atlanta, they'd probably either lose him to Houston or get leap-froged by the Bills. If they trade down w/ Minnesota, than the only way they wouldn't get him would probably be a team like Buffalo or NYG (or possibly even the Jets) trading up with Washington (who has 1 pick in the first four rounds)...

Please submit YOUR opinions.

Peterson in Cleveland would be a nice fit, but Cleveland really needs to get solid talent filled at quite a few positions. Trading down would allow Cleveland to nab a guy like Levi Brown in the 1st round, picking up an extra 2nd rounder, and taking a guy like antonio Pittman who is already an Ohio St. fan favorite, which is the majority of browns fans, and then getting a guy to play on the defensive line with the 2nd round pick

adding Levi gives you a solid tackle, so him and Shaffer would be on the outsides blocking, which would improve the run game, adding pittman who is a good power style back improves the run game, then adding a guy like Justin Harrell or Tank Tyler to build the defensive front, helping the defensive run game.

Cleveland doesn't need another star on offense, thats going to be Braylon and Kellen, we just need a solid line to give time to throw and holes to run, and a young RB with some talent to hit the holes

Its this huge misconception that if Cleveland doesn't get Peterson, we're screwed.

I think that it's very likely they do trade down.

Not necessarily so, but your 31st ranked offense needs help. And if Romeo and Phil are to keep their jobs, that help better be big and it better come this season.

I'm not so sure trading down and drafting linemen would create nearly enough of the impact for those two to keep their jobs.

The bottom line is: They don't care about what the fans want, they want to make sure they're not looking for employment this time next year.

peterson isn't going to make a huge impact on cleveland unless we can pull multiple lineman besides steinbach in free agency

One other lineman would probably do it. Droughns had 1,000 yards behind a worse line and with an overall worse offense.

droughns was a back on a mission 2 seasons ago, i'm not sure what happened with him this past season, may have had something to do with the legal issue plus crennel and savage both said he played hurt
