screen resolution
so...some cat here who is beyond hip...game me a W7 Pro CD...so I decided to bring an older computer I had back to life.
the install......and everything else.......was flawless. evrything looks and works fine in this old dell machine..........butt........I cannot for the life of me get the screen resolution to modify from 640 X 480...so as you can imagine...it looks horrible. I have updated EVERYTHING...all drivers...chip/bios....all of it.....everything shows to be working great...just not the screen resolution. help...

How old is the computer? Especially the motherboard and/or the video card?

So from what I googled, I came up with this:
The resolution options will vary with each computer based on the video card device, monitor size, and video & monitor drivers. If the screen looks distorted or fuzzy, then you may have an incorrect screen resolution size set for your monitor. Maybe that'll help solve your problem. Good Luck to you sir. ![]()

Are you using the motherboard video card or do you have your own video card? If you have your own I would suggest maybe shutting it off and taking it out, then running off the motherboard one. If you already running off the motherboard one, then maybe trying to get a video card to test out.
That is my first thought. Though admittedly I have yet to work with Windows 7 (gotten to work with vista very little as well). Can try and google it as well. I can't do that now but maybe later. Only other thought I have about it would be is there any kind of registration you went through? I believe on some software features are locked until after a valid registration goes through. Doubt that would be the feature no matter how annoying it would be.

You may have already tried this, but..
Windows 7 will automatically detect your display and download all of the resolutions it will support. ![]() ![]() tell me if it works.

thanks guys...although none of those suggestions helped out. I tried like hell though. thanks again.
fact is...common sense prevailed. I took for granted that my 5 year old pentium 4 chipset would most likely have not been updated for download to windows7 compliance...so I just went to the pentium site...and searched for my chipset...and downloaded the windows XP Professional graphic drivers........and bada-bing.......worked like a charm.

A while back, I bought a pair of video cards that turned out not to work with the CRT monitors I'd had, so I had to go get new monitors.
I don't know if this is the issue for you, but worth mentioning.
