Challenge revisited...
Okay, I'm up for this... including possible trades and slides
1. Houston- Reggie Bush I don't really think this is the way Casserly and Co. want to go but they are probably not equipped to deal with the backlash if they take Brick. 2. New Orleans- Matt Leinart NO WAY do they take another athletic scrambler! New coach Sean Payton must have a sure thing 1st rounder and the fan's support, that's why they go with Leinart. 3. Tennessee- Vince Young Can't see Jeff passing this kid up, but Lord knows they need O-Line help. Plus, he already has a relationship with Air McNair. 4. TRADE- Jets to Chargers for DB and their first- D'Brickashaw Ferguson This guy is the real deal, an elite prospect with strength and footwork, something that the Chargers have lacked. This will improve LT's numbers by 300 yards and AJ Smith recognizes this kind of talent only comes along once in a blue moon. Jets land Brees and don't have to pay first round money to an unknown commodity. 5. Green Bay- Mario Williams Can't deny the value here, even though they want LenDale White, this is a need pick who will be a Pro Bowler for a very long time, a flat-out player. 6. San Franscisco- (wins the toss) Michael Huff Tempted to go with Vernon Davis, Mike Nolan sees that there is value for TE in the 2nd round and can't pass up this DB dynamo. Huff is a pure ball hawk and will bring leadership to the secondary in Frisco, plus he hits like a freight train. 7. Oakland- Manny Lawson First real surprise of the draft- new coach Art Shell sees a hybrid OLB-DE for his new attitude Raider pass rush. His combination of size and skill could make him a steal even this early. 8. Buffalo- Haloti Ngata Probably the most predictable pick in this round, everyone knows that the Bills are going to take this kid, as well they should. 9. Detroit- Jay Cutler As much as the Lions' spin machine says that Harrington is the heir to the new regime, don't believe it. Cutler has impressed enough to merit this selection and should be able to make great use of the candy-store receiver corps. 10. Arizona- Marcus McNeill After the Cards spend a little money in FA (for a change) they add ex-Vike MB to the roster and trade for DC (a 2nd and 4th). McNeill is the guy they need to anchor the line and protect DC, a franchise tackle with size and wingspan. 11. St. Louis- Chad Greenway To say that the LB corps for the Rams was suspect last year would be putting it lightly. With Greenway they get a smart playmaker who fits into their defensive scheme and can play sideline to sideline. 12. Cleveland- Tamba Hali After the combine, where Hali really shines, Romeo and his staff fall in love with his measurables as well as his ability to stop the rush, especially in the HB friendly AFC North. 13. Baltimore- Winston Justice It's no secret that the O-line of the Ravens was pretty bad last year; no holes for JL to run through when he was there and no time for KB to get rid of the ball (BTW, when the kid has time to throw, I don't think he's all that bad). Billick goes with protection here, and Justice is a good pick, as he can play either tackle position. 14. Philadelphia- Broderick Bunkley This kid is perfect for their system and will replace an aging Hollis Thomas and an ineffective Darwin Walker. Tempted to go with DeAngelo Williams here, Reid and Co. realize that they like Ryan Moats enough to show them what he can do with BW. 15. Atlanta- DeAngelo Williams Mora exchanges his smallish, 30-something juke-eel for a smallish 20-something juke-eel. Should go secondary here, but won't. 16. Miami- Jimmy Williams With QB no longer being a need as Miami trades a 4th for Matt Schaub, they shore up the injury depleted and aging DB corps. Williams and Daniels will pair to make a nice cover secondary. 17. Minnesota- Vernon Davis Brad Childress surprises everyone with this pick, but he doesn't really believe in JW as a downfield threat, and he loves Vernon's crazy athleticism and ability to line up in various spots. 18. Dallas- Jon Scott Parcells likes this kid, he is a hometown product and he has a solid work ethic. After the rookies took their lumps last year on the line, he looks to replace an aging Flozell Adams. Cromartie and Simpson are also possible picks here. 19. NY Jets- Matthias Kiwanuka Having gotten their franchise QB, Mangini and Co. decide that they need to improve a once-stout D line. Kiwi is rangy and quick in the mold of our Simeon Rice, a real sack machine that can get to the AFC East QB's and disrupt this conferences rhythm passers. 20. Kansas City- Antonio Cromartie They flat-out love this kid (ever since the kid they REALLY flat-out loved was taken with the pick before theirs). This does improve a slow, aging secondary immediately and allows them to drop some dead weight in the form of DexterMcLeon and Eric Warfield. 21. New England- Tye Hill Need pick... desperate need pick. Tye Hill has the speed, skills and hands to excel at cornerback in the NFL, a playmaker that can hang with AFC East receivers. 22. Denver Broncos- Leonard Pope Luxury pick for the Broncos, here they take a complete playmaker who can also block down with the best of them, something that Jeb Putzier doesn't do that well. 23. Tampa Bay- Eric Winston The Bucs WILL draft a lineman with their first pick, take it to any bank. This is a glaring weakness anyone could spot and they don't want their franchise QB to end up a lawn ornament. In Winston, they get an elite tackle who only slipped due to a two year old knee injury, which he lays to rest once and for all in Indy. 24. Cincinatti- Gabe Watson The quintessential tackle for Marv Lewis' defensive line, had a problem with motivation before, but in Cincy.... no problem. 25. NY Giants- DeMeco Ryans Long, lean playmaker that they have lacked in this corps for a while, and with the return of Pierce and AJ Nicholson in the 3rd, this will be a feared LB trio for a good long time. 26. Chicago- Marcedes Lewis Gives Grossman (or whoever) a great receiver at the position, should be a capable downfield threat and an able blocker. 27. Carolina- Rodrique Wright Having surprised everyone by signing our man Pitt, the need for a sturdy rusher is no longer there, but the need for a sturdy DT definitely is (Jenkins is down more than the Las Vegas monorail!) In Wright, they get a dependable veteran that should team well with Brenston Buckner and be a quick learner. 28. Jacksonville- Nick Mangold After signing Edge to power their run game, they go for interior muscle here. This is a need pick, as they would like to be able to move effective guard Brad Meester back to his natural position to take over for turnstile Vince Manuwai. Mangold is tough, smart and an immediate upgrade that will stick for years. 29. Denver- Santonio Holmes Even with TO in the fold, this is a no-brainer for the Broncos. Lelie is not progressing and they need a young stud playmaker who can take it to the house. 30. Indianapolis- Ernie Sims Tony Dungy wants another Derrick Brooks. He gets him here, and he makes the Colts LB's even scarier. 31. Seattle- Sinorice Moss After a stellar combine, the 'Hawks cannot pass on this pure burner. He and Jackson will combine to make the most formidable receiving corps in the NFC... write it down. 32. Pittsburgh- LenDale White The new Bus. Last edited by jsirish; 02-22-2006 at 12:01 AM.. |

a couple things
-you left AJ Hawk out -Hali is a good DE, but he's not a 3-4 DE, plus that is one position Cleveland doesn't need -i like the attempt but i don't see manny lawson going first round, yet alone top 10 |

What do they need more than a receiver? They have one of the best offensive lines in football, stud QB and RB, up-and-coming TE, Fisher and Wistrom on the ends and Chuck darby plays better for them than he ever did for us, Tatupu in the middle and Koutivedes will get his feet under him this year, Trufant and Herndon are good at the corners, Boulware and Manuel are good safeties... what am I missing?

just had an RB who rushed for 1800 yards, but an OG would be a solid pick for them |

Why? They have Hutch and they just drafted Spencer in the first round last year, plus Chris Gray is still good... who catches other than D-Jack and Hackett? Joe's gone and Engram farts dust

they could upgrade over Gray, but i forgot about Spencer, i'll have to change mine. edit* From what i'm looking at actually, Spencer is listed as their back-up center so i'm not sure of their situation there. Last edited by nolesfan4life; 02-22-2006 at 02:35 AM.. |

OLB and DE are my main concerns. OLB- Jamie Sharper might not be back after a staph infection in his knee ended his season, and if he is back, he's still old. D.D. Lewis, his backup, is average and also injury prone. LeRoy Hill and Tatupu are very good, but we need an SLB to compliment them. Thomas Howard and Bobby Carpenter are my favorites in the first round. DE- Fisher and Wistrom are pretty good, but neither of them bring a consistent pass-rush, which is something the defense is lacking (and yes, I realize they led the league in sacks.) Other possibilities.... RB- if Alexander leaves. CB- Dyson seems to be made of glass, and Herndon was a huge dissapointment. A couple other positions that people have them taking in mock drafts that I don't see happening... Safety- Hamlin will be back at full strength next year, everyone seems to forget about him. OG- Chris Gray is getting old, but his succesor is already with the team, his name is Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack.
