Vikings | Whitaker scores NFL Europe touchdown

Vikings | Whitaker scores NFL Europe touchdown
Tue, 18 Apr 2006 05:46:22 -0700

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings CB Ronyell Whitaker continued his strong play for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, returning an interception 30 yards for a touchdown Saturday, April 15.

Another former Buc doing well --- so we had a possible young backfill and we let him go and now we are looking to draft another one why??? I guess the coaches know something we don't --- still better than Kalvin Pearson I think.

I've always been a Ronyell Whitaker fan ever since 2003 when he signed with us as a UDFA. I'm very glad he is doing great in NFL Europe, and I hope it translates successfully to the NFL with the Vikings.

We've always been able to find DBs though at any point of the draft, so I'm not worried about letting players go. It happens and we move on.

We have a guy, James Patrick, who I think will end up being a very good NB in our system if he plays too.

Sure Whitaker is playing strong and while I very much enjoy watching NFL Europe live every week, don't forget that it still is NFL Europe.

the game is played on a much lower level and DB's don't face the top receivers that they would in the NFL. Secondly, the offenses have only been training together for a short period of time so they have only started to gell a little during the games. It's not like these offensive players know each other through and through, they are still growing.

Not to take anything away from Whitaker's strong play in NFL Europe but don't forget that it's an entire different level of football.

Whitaker also got beat by Skyler Fulton for the game winning 42 yard TD. That's ok though, Fulton is on his way to breaking pretty much every NFLE single season receiving record.

Whitaker is good but very small and was beaten a few times when he was given time to play.

The only big one I remember was against Brian Finneran of the Falcons in late December of 2003. Whitaker fought as best as he could, and he almost knocked the pass away from Finneran, even though he is only 5-9 and the receiver was 6-5.
