Dolphins Officially Trade for Harrington

The Fins officially traded for Harrington...

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...l/14558230.htm
Quote:
Deal is reached for QB

Quarterback Joey Harrington apparently is headed south after all. A source close to Harrington said Thursday night the Dolphins and Detroit Lions have worked out a deal to send the former No. 3 overall draft pick to Miami. Harrington was scheduled to participate in a charity event next week but had to cancel because he will have to be in Miami to take part in the opening of organized training activity.

That activity essentially is team practices that lead to a three-day minicamp for all players June 9-11. The Dolphins want to have Harrington with the team now so he can learn the offense.

3 stale Cherios and a half sucked TicTac (Harrington is proven capable of sucking it the rest of the way). Personnally, I think the Phins overpaid.

If the phins gave up anything more than a small vile of shaved back hair from my former mother in law and they overpaid.

they could have just gotten a rookie in the draft for cheaper than they paid for harrington...All he's gona do is back up Culpepper if he's able to play.

That's the logic that I'm missing

I still think that Harrington can play, and I think that Saban could take him, and make a really good QB out of him

But, I don't understand why they would pay him so much to sit behind Culpepper .. why not draft the rookie, who will be willing to sit on the bench for a little while .. Now you have two QBs with the potential and price tag to be starting ..

I don't think that getting Harrington would be a bad thing, if he could compete for the starting job

Now here's the "Crazy What-If" scenario. What if Culpepper isn't ready come week 1. And Harrington steps in, and he's much improved .. and he's leading the team to victory every week. Should they still pull Culpepper up? Do you mess with something when it's not broken?

Harrington's not that bad. He had some rough days, but i think he's got a career in the NFL. I'd like to know more about his work ethic before i label him a bust.

How many draft picks in next years draft did you guys give up between Culpepper and Harrington? And would you be willing to give up more draft picks to get Michael Bennett?

espn is reporting it should be a 5th round pick. Miami was offering a 6th or 7th and Detroit said no, so Miami caved in with a 5th just to get him into camp.

I hope you didnt give anything more than a 5th rounder for Harrington.

Sincerely,

This tells me the fins have little confidence in Culpepper. I have no confidence in Culpepper and I think this is a good trade for Harrington and the fins. I think Harrington will find his niche with them.

What's so wrong with this pickup? Granted if they signed him for the right amount of money course........I think Harrington would be a hell of a BACKUP.

I am reserving all judgment on Harrington until I see him in person in Training Camp...

However, Harrington was the best of the rest of available QBs. He aint a stud or anything, but he has experience and could probably hold it down for a few games if Pep isnt ready to go by Week 1. The Fins were going to wait until he was released... but they decided to give up a conditional 6th rounder(that can escalate to a 5th bases on playing time & performance)... because they wanted to get him into camp as soon as possible so he can start learning the system if he has to start Week 1.

On a side note... ESPN reported 2 days ago that they are hearing Pepper will be ready for Training Camp...

I think it's a great move and can do nothing, but help better your team.

Maybe Harrington should be the one trying for the CFL.

$4.45 million for 2006 and another $4.45 million for 2007. That's the salary by his current contract IF they can't negotiate it down. Maybe the trade is contigent upon agreeing to a new contract but I haven't heard.

He renegotiated his contract with us...

The power he put on this trade is that he refused to renegotiate his contract with any other team other than the Fins... practically making him untradeable...
